Varian my late mum was born on the Island. Sorry for the delay but I've just this minute seen this area of GN.

Hi, I’m very new to Gransnet infact this is my very first post!! I am a first time grandma and I’m feeling very nervous yet filled with excitement too, I wanted to ask does every new grandma find they have a whole lot of new worry for this tiny baby that has just entered into their lives??

Grammaretto Sun 21-Oct-18 22:17:12

Lynnypie every new grand parent feels like that. I know I did. Precious new life, so small and totally dependant. Your own DC are new parents and have to grow into the role which they do, thankfully. Before long they are experts.
Congratulations! And welcome smile

Contgratulations Lynnypir on becoming a granny, and on becoming a Gransnetter.

We grannies have all experienced that feeling of wonderment and overwhelming love, tinged with anxiety for their future, when we saw our first grandchild for the first time.

My advice is - give your grandchild as much love and attention as you possibly can and make the most of all the time you have together as they grow up so fast.

Has anyone else noticed that your grandchildren seem to grow up much faster than your children?

Grammaretto Mon 22-Oct-18 19:42:46

Oh yes. Some of ours are almost teenagers and it was so recently we were meeting them for the first time.
Mind you we have suddenly grown old. How did that happen?
Enjoy every moment Lynnypie

Hi all ? I’m Nicki, mum to 4, grandma to 12.. just thought it would be nice to chill, and maybe sometimes vent, lol, with other grandmas.. hope that’s ok..

Hi all !! I am a lurker on grans net and mums net and have enjoyed lurking on both. I'm not yet a gran but at 53 have much in common with people on grans net and also find it reassuring to read threads on things like retirement and find that there definitely is life after retirement !!

I would love if there were some local forums for Irish people but fair enough that grans net is a UK based forum

I have a daughter studying nursing in the UK and she has been shown great kindness and support by everyone and I greatly enjoy my trips to visit her !

When I read the posts on grans net I usually imagine them as being from wise, tolerant people who have learnt a lot from life. Sometimes the posts on mums net are a bit harsher by comparison although I identify and understand both!

I've not got tons of free time with kids husband and job but will post when possible and revert to lurking when not !

Best wishes to all !!!

Nice to hear from you Sasperilla. You're very welcome.

Have just joined GN this evening. Have had a look at some of the posts & threads & I am looking forward to meeting & chatting to new people. It was my daughter who suggested the site to me, so will see how we go!!!

Hello Shelley smile

Nanoo15 Wed 07-Nov-18 15:38:04

I’m not really a new member, have read and enjoyed forums for a long time and been inspired by what is written so many times, but for some reason never joined in. Time to start, don’t you think?

MissAdventure Wed 07-Nov-18 16:02:06

Yep, and I love the name Nanoo'! smile

Hi everyone

Have been reading the forums for a couple of weeks and I’ve posted once already. I’m in Australia and couldn’t find an Aussie site similar to gransnet. I’m virtually housebound and don’t get to talk to other women who are around my age. I’ve really enjoyed reading the opinions of gransnet members.

Welcome Leavingnormal - I hope you find much welcoming interests here. Do enjoy!

Janineelsa Sun 11-Nov-18 17:17:15

A woman like me !
I love walking but am painfully slow. Am out doors mainly have a OH but he lives in his house and I live in mine with my 5 dogs 3 horses and 3 cats.
Feel quite alone most times although do have family that stay every other week for weekend

Janineelsa Sun 11-Nov-18 17:19:08

New today, found via google as life at times can be a bit lonely but I do enjoy my own company most times.
Love the outdoors, animals, walking and most things really

Anniebach Sun 11-Nov-18 18:06:55

Welcome Janineelsa, many dog and cat lovers here and many who love walking too ?

Hello.
I happened upon this forum for over 50 and I think there will be lots of topics of interest to me so I joined. I live in the United States with my husband. We both still work but are looking toward retirement. We have grown children and 6 grandchildren, with the youngest two being 9 and 10 years old.

Charleygirl5 Tue 13-Nov-18 16:08:16

Welcome more new people. There are others who live in Ireland, America and Australia so who knows- you may be closer than you think. Enjoy GN.

Apricity Wed 14-Nov-18 04:20:09

Hi Leavingnormal, there seem to be quite a few of us from Downunder on GN. Welcome aboard. ✨
