as most of you know Mr Biker is very poorly (he hasn't got a bike by the way)!
this week we have had the hospital bed delivered, and lovely nurses coming and talking and sorting OH out, he is under the impression I am going to get him better like I have always done in the past when things have take a turn for the worse, but unfortunately yesterday when certain drugs arrived from the chemist It sank in that I can't make him better this time, the nurses are coming later to talk me through the drugs and side effects etc, they really are so kind, OH half has managed three spoonfulls of custard today.

On the other side of the coin my DD whos has one and only GS announced 3 months ago she is pregnant (after being told it was unlikely she wouldnt have any more children) GS is 7.
OH was sooo ....... chuffed to hear the news ( I didn't announce it any earlier as DD has had 2 scares) and has now had 20 wk scan and it seems we are to have another GS smile she has to go for another scan as baby was lying awkward, but apparently he likes "showing his bits!
I am finding really hard to concentrate on either situation, I feel so sorry for DD having to cope with her dad so ill,s it's difficult to focus on the baby, a few days after OH had heard the news he said "I want to hold this baby"..but the way things are going it is very unlikely.

I do think things happen for a reason and maybe that having a new life to focus on will ease the way.

Dear Biker I'm adding my condolences too. It's a difficult time and I do hope you have family and real life friends to support you just now - as well as all the warmth and support I know you will receive from your friends here on Gransnet. flowers (((hugs)))

Biker, you must be devastated, but you did a wonderful thing having your dear husband at home with you and those he loves and enabling him to leave this life secure in the knowledge that he was cherished and loved rather than in a hospital bed.

Come on here whenever you need a word from your Granspals. It will help to make these coming days and weeks a little less bleak.

So sorry to read your news, biker Don't chastise yourself, you eased his pain and sent him to sleep happy and secure. I wish that DH had started on the large doses of morphine a week before he did. His last days were so peaceful.

Just read your sad news, Biker. I'm so very sorry to hear that Mr B has died so soon after you sharing the news about your daughter's pregnancy, just a few days ago. You have been caring for him for such a long time, so to suddenly cease all that dashing about is bound to leave you feeling lost and wondering what to do with yourself. I hope you feel some consolation in knowing you were with him and helping to ease his pain. It's how most of us would want our lives to come to an end, in the bosom of our families. Please come back when you can and let us know how things are going. Much love flowers

Biker, I've just logged on and read your sad news. Your husband was able to leave this world feeling no pain and knowing only the comfort and love that you had for each other for such a long time. And he knew about the new baby that's on its way. We're all here for you and we'll be thinking about you. My heart goes out to you. flowers xx

Purpledaffodil Wed 02-Jul-14 09:37:40

Such sad news biker - but so comforting to know that you were with him; he was at home with those he loved around him and no-one can ask for more. How good that you were able to be the one that helped him through the pain and made his last hours comfortable - a task for someone he trusted, and you were there for him. Well done.

Keep posting - we are all with you and holding your hand.

MiniMouse Wed 02-Jul-14 10:16:02

So sorry to hear the news biker Just remember how much more peaceful and secure you will have made Mr Biker feel by having him at home. The patch was the last loving thing to have done for him, he will have known that and will have known how hard it was for you to do it. flowers

newist Wed 02-Jul-14 10:30:31
