I have been suffering from this recently. I fear it is due to falling off the low carb wagon and eating too much bread. I was interested to read on the low carb support thread that carbs are thought to cause reflux.
How do others manage this problem? My GP suggested eating little and often (rather than my usual lots and often!) and taking Gaviscon. She thinks the irritating cough I thought was due to blood pressure meds was probably through soreness from the acid.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

A high sugar diet will not do you any good!! Time to think about the won'ts as opposed to the cant's of your dietary intake. Stern faced Jane10 speaking!!
Yes Stern faced Jane, I bought the chocolate ages ago , was feeling positive and thought of it as a reward when I had eaten several proper meals, probably out of date now anyway.
I cannot stop the honey, my calorie intake will be about 600, I use it in my tea and drink rather a lot of tea, I also have it on the rice cakes and if feeling sad eat a teaspoon to cheer myself up, in my defence things are very, very difficult at the moment .
Sorry to hear things are hard at the moment, Annie, but you need to look after your health. If you cut right back on the honey, you could have maybe four Complans a day, which would give you so much more by way of protein, fat and vitamins, just till you get back on track.
Thank you Maggie, I really do need to get some weight on. I have been looking at range of Complan on Amazon . Will do as you suggest , just hope it stays in my stomach, even soluble vitamins will not . I long to be size 10 again and then size 12. ?
Anniebach perhaps you could cut down on honey but get a really good quality one, I don't know if there is any truth in the hype about Manuka.
I had my endoscopy, nothing obvious lurking around but very inflamed, still waiting for the result on bacteria. My problem is that I also have chronic sinus problems and post nasal drip, and it seems that what is good for that is bad for gastritis - berries, grapefruit etc
for a week now I have had a stinking cold, lots of cattarh and a cough. The final indignity the other evening - coughing so much I simultaneuosly wet myself and coughed up my dinner! Luckily I protect my recliner with a folded fleece blanket and have one over my knees as the house is drafty, so only had to wash the nickers, jog bottoms, and two fleeces, having at least managed to miss the chair and carpet!
Years ago the hay diet was all the rage - never combining protein and carbs in one meal, because they require the stomach to produce opposing acids to digest. I think it's worth a try for the stomach problems.
Annie I feel for you, there must be a better way than rice cakes.
starbird, great the endoscopy showed nothing too nasty.
I remember the hay diet being popular, will look it up, what I cannot risk is more lost of weight .
Your little mishap ! when you coughed was most unfortunate , I am fed up of coughing. Have water brash and post nasal drip, causes phlegm which causes coughing. It just seems I am going around in circles.
I think Manuka honey is very good for stomach problems , will look that up too.

Manuka honey has a lot of advocates, but it’s very expensive, and apparently has to be certified high quality to be of any benefit. I tried it when I suffered from reflux, before I started on the Acidophilus tablets. I’m glad they worked for me and the honey didn’t, as it was around £15 a pot. 
Tastes good, though! 
Maggie if I got hooked on Manuka I would be penniless in a week , saw some for sale £45 ?
Annie could you eat milky porridge? Failing that, protein shakes, Complan etc.
What about anything with cheese? full fat yoghurts? You need something to put weight on, beef tea, soups??
Lemon, I have bought Complan now, yogurts yes could try those. Very difficult eating little and often after eating very little but I will do it. Wait until I post - I am size ten and my clothes are getting rather tight ?

Annie Can you persuade yourself that some other food gives you comfort? A jar of honey contains 1150 kilocalories (just looked at my jar) and the recommended calorie intake for a woman of your age is 1600 to 1800, maybe 2000 if you are very active. So if you are eating a jar of honey a day, over half your calories are coming from one source, not a very good source of much except sugar at that. Other than the honey you eat bread and potatoes. Not good! You are filling up with sugar and carbohydrates so no wonder you don't fancy much else.
Also, that much sugar is biasing your digestion. I find that I get acid reflux too, if I eat a lot of sweet stuff.
Other things that affect me are:-
Eating a large meal in the evening - or going to the other extreme and just having a bowl of soup and bread. The soup seems to slurp about when I lie down and results in more reflux.
Drinking a mug of hot drink just before bedtime. That slurps about too. If I have supper these days, it is an hour before I go to bed.
Eating a lot of bread through the day.
Eating anything with a lot of cooked tomatoes in it in the evening.
What I find helps:-
Eating a main meal at midday and something light in the evening (but not soupy! Solid enough to give the stomach muscles something to work on.)
Drinking plenty of water, tea, coffee etc through the day, but not a lot late at night.
Leaving at least an hour after eating and drinking before lying down.
Spending fifteen minutes of that hour walking around to help the food move on. (set the oven timer)
Adding an extra pillow to keep my head higher than my stomach.
Finally - do go to your GP. Forget the one who missed your perforating ulcer. They are not all the same.
You need to get this checked out in case there is something up which can be sorted by medicine or advice. If you are losing weight although you are taking in more calories than you need (counting the honey and the bread and the spuds and whatever else you eat) then it is possible you have type 2 diabetes, which needs medical attention.
Thank you Elegran, the GP who missed my ulcer is dead. I have a very helpful doctor now. Been tested for Diabetes, have had seven blood tests this year, another due in three weeks, had chest X-ray , a consultation with a nutritionist,who was a bitch, sorry.
I eat chicken every day, don't like red meat, at 5.30pm, nothing in the evening. I eat the rice cakes because I can't eat bread, very difficult to buy wheat/gluten free here. Tesco delivers but their free from always includes soya,yuck .
I drink nearly a pint milk a day in tea, luvs my tea.
I am sorry I am asking so much for help but if I lose any more weight I will vanish .
Can't make my own bread because severe arthritis in hands ,
The walking around is a thought, after dinner I lay on sofa the whole evening. Much is self inflicted Elegran , I feel stupid and Cross with me for getting in this pickle .

A quick note about 'proper' bread. Our local baker is advertising that his bread is proved for 18 hours. Supermarket stuff like Kingsmill has enzyme additives which speed the process up so that it can sometimes only take 4 hours. This can be a cause of bloating. Just a thought.
Could you get a breadmaker? Then you would know exactly what is in your bread. They often turn up in charity shops, people buy them thinking they are the best things since sliced bread (
) then discover with surprise that you still have to weigh out ingredients and add them and be around to take the bread out of the machine when it is ready. Mine makes lovely bread, even better if I just do the dough kneading in it and put lumps of it into tins to rise then bake it in the ordinary oven, I reckon the crust is crisper that way.
Elegran, I am a Luddite when it comes to kitchen stuff, I have never seen a bread maker , does one put ingredients in, switch on, wait, switch off and put dough into tins , no kneading? If so I want one ?
They have various programmes, which make all kinds of bread. Most of them you put in all the ingredients, switch on, choose your bread type, press start and wait for 4 hours or so while the smell of baking bread fills the house and you get hungry. It takes that long because it kneads it, waits a while and lets it rise, kneads it again, sometimes a third time, then it heats up and bakes it. You take it out and Bob's your Aunt Fanny you have bread.
I think that the heating up while the bread is still in there makes the crust leathery, but most people seem happy with that and there is absolutely no work to do.
Mine (a Panasonic) has a dough programme, which takes 2 hrs 20 mins and just kneads the dough and lets it rise. At that point I take it out, thump it a few times to get rid of the bubbles (not really kneading) put it into tins or make rolls and leave them somewhere warm for the last rise (in my case on an oven shelf across a sinkful of hot water, with a bit of clingfilm and a towel laid over them to keep them cosy) They are then baked in the ordinary oven.
I don't have your severe problems with arthritis but I don't think I could knead dough for 10 minutes without getting sore knuckles.
Most makes have a gluten-free programme too,
