I feel I have to comment here in defence of the CQC . I worked with them, not for them, inspecting homes for many years and theirs is a challenging job. Not only are there mountains of paperwork and policies to check but just as important and probably more important, speaking to staff, residents, visitors and gaining their perspective of the home. From observations things are not always what you are told, so it is a matter of listening to people and seeing what are you told is what actually happens.
when homes have been below standard the CQC gives them a short period to improve, they visit again and will check several times so the process is fair and all visits are unannounced.
Yes, there are some homes that are very poor and in my experience these have been dealt with and yes there are some brilliant ones not always the "posh" ones, some being a bit shabby but the care has been wonderful.
