I haven’t had one for about 35 years, we got them free at work and am a bit wary as a friend had an adverse reaction. Your views please?

The first year I had mine, I wasn't 100 percent afterwards and was quite reluctant to have another. However, the GP talked me into it and I have been having one ever since for at least 10 years without any ill effects. I am happy to have this year's one...I've literally just booked for mine online!

Yes, I’ll be getting a flu jab. I have asthma and so have had one since long before I was in my sixties. I’ve never had a bad reaction, but I understand that I may get one this year, or any year after.

Mine is booked for late September at pharmacy. Was checking my immunisations on patient access, it seems I had my first flu jab in 1990 altho it could have been earlier.Never had any adverse reactions or had the flu .My flu jabs were always free due to diabetes.

Booked in at the surgery for when they start these flu jabs end if September. Luckily never had a reaction.

Well it was chaos at my surgery to say the least this morning but all done now. I felt sorry for those who were struggling to walk as they were only allowing 4 people in at a time as I say chaos.

Yes. Booked. Always been ok.

I would suggest that the cough you experienced when you had flu jabs was coincidence,Don'tmindstayingathome.
,I would have thought that his year in particular a flu jab should be the one thing we all should have if possible
I may be wrong but think it must surely help with the Covid crisis .
Will you regret not having one if you still get a cough and also get the flu?

Dustyhen2010 Sat 05-Sept-20 13:06:03

I have had it for many years with no side effects. I would urge everyone to have it. I haven't heard that our surgery is doing it yet this year and am quite jealous that some of you have had yours or at least have it booked.

My gorgeous grandma- in- law died not long after she had the flu jab so this has put me off .

JenniferEccles Sat 05-Sept-20 13:53:38

I think it’s highly unlikely that anyone has died from the flu vaccine.

Died AFTER it yes but not FROM it.

I do hope people aren’t put off by these alarmist stories.

With Covid still around (although in much smaller numbers) this is the one year when it’s essential to protect ourselves from the possibility of contracting both.

Ive had the flu jab every year for about 20 years with no problems. It takes a few days to protect you and I think if people are ill afterwards they would have been anyway ie they were already infected. That’s what I was told anyway. My older brother and his wife were so poorly with flu one Christmas they could hardly rise from bed for weeks, so I wouldn’t like to risk not having the jab.

SueDonim Sat 05-Sept-20 14:03:19

I’m now eligible for a free* jab and after having had flu at Xmas 2017, I am grateful for it as I felt like death warmed up with flu.

It’s impossible to catch flu from the injection but very possible to be harbouring a cold or flu at the same time, which people then blame on the jab.

*I may end up paying for it this year as my surgery doesn’t yet have plans in place and possibly won’t be offering it at all. confused

DH and myself have just booked into our local Boots for flu jabs on 19th of this month. Didn’t bother with our GP surgery as they have been an absolute dead loss since March and seem to actively encourage no contact with themselves.
DH has advanced cancer and hasn’t seen a Dr face to face since April. Had to beg the Receptionist to book a telephone consultation when he needed a new drug prescribed by his Oncologist.

Any vaccinations/examinations going, grab 'em! Who knows how much longer the NHS can offer them free?

sharon103 Sat 05-Sept-20 14:32:53

Not for me thanks. I haven't forgotten what I felt like after I had one years ago.

Grannynannywanny Sat 05-Sept-20 14:48:10

Yes please for me as I haven’t forgotten what it was like to be floored by a nasty bout of flu many years ago. I’ve never had flu since I started having the flu vaccine.

Both my mum in her 70’s and my sister have them every year due to high risk, COPD & asthma. They are both laid up in bed ill for at least a week after. I can’t have it as I am allergic to eggs.

I have the Flu jab regularly, mainly because my hubby has Asthma, and if I got the flu, I would not be able to care for him. He has multiple other health issues and would only manage by eating sandwiches, if I wasn't able to cook. I have sometimes had"sniffles" following a flu jab, but they did not last long, and I soon felt better. I think it's worthwhile!

I have had it for a few years now and Yes I will be having it this year as where I work are getting them in so all colleagues will only have to pay £1 for it this year.

Mistyfluff8 Sat 05-Sept-20 16:05:29

katy1950 Sat 05-Sept-20 16:09:01

Definitely yes

Greciangirl Sat 05-Sept-20 16:16:32

Yes, why wouldn’t you.

Jang Sat 05-Sept-20 16:25:09

Don't get me started, simple answer for me is no - never had one and don't intend to have one now.. as for the Covid jab... really? when it's not been tested properly .... more people die of heart disease and cancer than Covid
