Can't get flu jab
(136 Posts)DH and I had texts from the surgery late September, telling us that flu jabs would take place on each Saturday in October, and that we would be given an appointment.
The four Saturdays have now gone, and no appointment for either of us. We are late sixties and mid seventies.
I tried to book a private jab at Boots, only to find that Boots appear to have run out of the vaccine.
Anyone else experienced this?
Think we will all 3 go to Lloyds or asda or superdrug next year as its nearer and if any of us end up having to pay its a lot cheaper than boots..Although should be free for us all as youngest will be 18 by then.
Both husband and I had flu jab early October in Boots booked online it’s so easy surgery have messed us around so many times and when your a pensioner you are not meant to look after grandchildren or go to work according to them
Well, there is no shortage of the vaccine in Denmark, so I don't know what is wrong in Britain or France.
We just had to turn up at the doctor's on the first Tuesday of the month.
SillyNanny321 - Thank you so much for a really positive posting about your GP Practice and all the staff. I wonder if the public at large realise just how much organisation is required to set up the Flu Clinics for patients. Especially this year since many more patients under 65 have been included by the D of H and have to be added.
And others please spare a thought for the Surgeries experiencing staff shortages because some members of staff are having to self-isolate for 14 days. Yes, all the staff are at risk and some are getting sick despite bestpractice/precautions etc.
And lastly - we are supposed to be ‘all in this together’ and it should not be a question of ‘Them versus Us’.
I rest my case.
As someone else said, try the local chemists. I gave up on our surgery and went across the road to our local chemist. I've pointed others in the same direction.
I’m getting mine on Saturday at the GPs. Had a reminder text this morning x
Yes Antonia just ring your surgery they may have overlooked you, or maybe are 'staggering' the appts as they order more vaccine in.Our surgery always seem to get them late-ish on though so thats why i chose to go to chemist.
I had a text from my surgery in early September, immediately went online and booked an appointment with a nurse and had my jab two weeks later.
Surgery also did two Saturday walk-through sessions (in one door, jab, out the other door) in October.
At the moment, they've got 7 doctors, 2 nurses and a receptionist self-isolating (?) so to say they're short-staffed is the understatement of the year..!! I would think that many other places are in the same situation, so I don't envy them - and I'd never call them disgraceful after the year that they've had (& are still having).
Yes, got the letter, got the jab. Good luck everyone, hope you are all sorted soon.
I nipped into our local pharmacy weeks ago and got one immediately. The lovely pharmacist then came to our house a couple of days later to vaccinate my husband who was just out of hospital following a partial knee replacement op.
If we are all washing our hands and social distancing why worry this year about a flu jab?
Our surgery didn't send out invites this year, so I rang them and was given an appointment for a month later. They wouldn't do the pneumonia jab the same week so went back this week for it. Whilst there the nurse gave me a M.O.T. - blood pressure, weight and bloods tests for various things as she had time. No one else came in or went out the whole time I was there and she wasn't expecting anyone else that morning. Never seen the place so deserted
I rang my surgery several times & eventually got booked in for beginning October, I don’t think the surgery would have chased us up. We also had a pneumonia jab, just felt it would be a good idea. It’s a one off, well I think it last about 10 years. Good luck, hope you manage to get flu jab soon
25Jodieb If we are all washing our hands and social distancing why worry this year about a flu jab?
I must admit, that thought did cross my mind, especially as DH and I rarely leave the house. But, presumably the jab lasts for a year, and hopefully life may be a little more normal next summer, so we would still prefer to have been vaccinated.
Well the reason for having a fly vaccine is that thousands of older/vulnerable people die every year as a result of contracting seasonal flu.
This year there is the added complexity of Covid19. It is important for all health services to try to reduce the number of very sick people so that everyone who is ill can access the medical care that they need.
If washing hands, wearing masks & social distancing was enough...and if everyone was actually doing that.. we would not be experiencing the upsurge of CV19 cases now... so as sensible & good citizens we should all be doing what we can to reduce the chance of ill health.
64 - paid for my own and had it done at Boots last week. Had about a month to wait after booking.
I've never had a flu jab and don't intend to start now.
I was surprised when I got an email offering me a jab in the first batch at the beginning of September as I'm not on the vulnerable list. The email said they had ordered one for everyone over 60. So I was one of the first.
It was always going to be a difficult year with offering it to more people (although they did say vulnerable and older people first). My 91 year old aunt in York didn't get hers until late September so I think it's one of those postcode lotteries.
I've had a flu jab every year since I started work in 1974. Until last year when I was old enough to qualify for a free one there were a few years I had to pay. Don't just think of Boots I went to Asda pharmacy for a few years as they were the cheapest also the pharmacies in the bigger stores were open later so sometimes went about 7pm when it was quiet.
I had an appointment for the regular smear test, and the nurse asked would I like a ‘flu jab? Thought I might as well, so she did it there and then. First time I’ve ever had one. My DH had his this weekend at a socially-distanced “jab session” at the Doctor’s Surgery. Sorted
.
Flowthe Crow what is you objection to protecting yourself & others from illness?
Got ours done at Tesco pharmacy, book online
I got mine in September at the pharmacy. They had a note up saying "Ask us about the flu jab " so I asked, and the answer was "He's here today", so I went for it.
I did it because I thought it was one less thing for the surgery to worry about but there's not even a mention on my gp website yet, so I'm glad I did.
In mid September I rang surgery to.grt one as asthmatic. Told they only have over 65 jabs and older people having theirs first. Told to g back in 3 weeks. Rang back 3 weeks later and told jabs for under 65 came in but all used. Then I went to see my sister in Devon as have not visited since December due to Covid. Saw a chemist window saying they had flu jabs on a drop in basis. Got mine done on the spot.
Our surgery was very good.
I rang mid September and we were given Saturday 3rd October for our appointment. We’re 66 and 71.
We arrived at the surgery door, where they had put one of the receptionists in the porch, behind Perspex with her laptop. Names checked and then straight across reception into the corridor where the Drs rooms are off.
Chrissie the practice nurse was in the corridor with her trolley. A jab each and then we exited from the door opposite her, which is the staff only entrance Into the car park.
Four minutes start to finish!!! Excellent service from Stoneycroft Medical Centre Liverpool. ??
