Hello! ?
Welcome to ? 2!

A huge thank you and well done to Silverlining thanks for creating the first thread (which I’ll link to shortly)
It was an amazingly successful thread; which was remarkable considering that most of the time it was invisible! smile

Had my THR today too.. Back on ward, so far so good.

silverlining48 Wed 10-Aug-22 19:41:01

Visgirl we’ll done, so pleased you are the proud possessor of a shiny new hip. You and ipadGrandma can compare notes.

Well done Visgirl! thanks
Hope to hear from you again soon.

Has IpadG had hers done yet?
If you are reading- I hope that you are well x

FannyCornforth Thu 11-Aug-22 02:23:19

Sorry, ipadg I see that it was yesterday. I hope that it’s all gone swimmingly

iPadGrandma Thu 11-Aug-22 07:07:51

Thank you everyone for your good wishes. Early surgery at 8.45 yesterday by spinal block. Theatre staff ouutstanding, as are ward staff. Comfortable day, physio has me standing and in chair for dinner and evening.
Surgeon came to see me and said surgery had gone well. He came before op and said bone was crumbling and it was painful for him to see xray and scan as it must be so painful. (Avascular Necrosis)).
Fairly comfortable right now, maybe a touch quesy with so much medication but I am so grateful. Onwards and upwards! Very cool on ward too, with air conditioning.
Visgirl hope you are comfortable this morning.

Aveline Thu 11-Aug-22 07:17:05

Off to a very good start iPadGrandma!

Charleygirl5 Thu 11-Aug-22 08:09:36

iPadGrandma and Visgirl- the worst is over and you can only get better now. Before you know it you will be in the comfort of your own homes.

Visgir1 Thu 11-Aug-22 08:58:15

Morning all..

IpadGrandma.. Encouraging to see your progress one step in front of me, keep up the good work.

Well done so far with me..
Got back about 4 pm, faultless had epidural so went into recovery awake.

OK night still had some referd pain in my knee late last night, but eventually after sorted out my bed went out like a light, until the Nurse came in to do my BP! fortunately I got back to sleep, and slept very well, had to be woken up this morning.

Not out of bed yet, so I'll let you know.
Thank you all for asking.

Naughtyneine Thu 11-Aug-22 12:08:38

Glad to hear all has gone well for our 'new hipsters'. Definitely onwards and upwards from now on.
Travels...I did the same and still do but it's hard not to web you want to be back as you were pre hip . I think I may have to ask to go back and see the physio as I've developed pelvic girdle pain...maybe a a result of the fall or slight twisting of my pelvis... Whatever it is it's a pain in the butt....quite literally!!!!. It's frustrating as I want to walk more etc but don't want to go back down the needing meds road again. Anyone else had anything similar?

GrannyLaine Thu 11-Aug-22 14:46:38

Visgirl my apologies - I had overlooked the date for your surgery. Sounds as though all went well though if I remember correctly, you've had this hip done before? Hope this time goes really well for you.
iPadGrandma hope today continues to go well for you, you sound very happy with the care you are receiving.

This is the other hip, I have the full pair now. I had TKR just before Christmas, and to add to the artificial collection.... .
They found out my SOB was Heart Block so 3 weeks ago they fitted a Pacemaker.
Which is ironic as I'm a Cardiac Physiologist and now specialising in Pacing.
Just as well I have a sense of humour ?

GrannyLaine Thu 11-Aug-22 17:10:05

Ah I see Visgirl well, you have quite a collection of replacement joints there then. And yes, the irony when your own specialist field becomes your new condition. Not likely to happen to me. I was a Midwife ?
Take good care flowers

It was a big day for me, have been discharged 4 months after my new hip hop. I asked about sitting on the floor, getting in and out of the bath etc and he told me its still too early and if the hip pops out if its socket it could be serious. I had a dry run practice in the bath at the weekend, which I did manage, but it was awkward. Will hold back fir now. What do you all think?
He said it takes between 12 and 18 months to fully heal, so its still a long ( but painless thank goodness) road to travel. Physio next week, might be my last, so will take the opportunity to clarify, she is very nice.

Glad all is going well with our two newest hipsters. A day at A time, but a good start. Hope you all get a good nights sleep.

Aveline Thu 11-Aug-22 20:31:19

Don't be in a rush silverlining dislocation is an awful thing. Not worth risking it for a bath (if you have a shower!)

silverlining48 Thu 11-Aug-22 20:49:52

Yes Aveline, I am using the shower but do miss a bath. I am generally risk averse so will wait.

I am still wearing compression stockings and I go in a hot sweat when in bed and want to rip them off!!! In this heat they are unbearable. I actually sprayed them with cold water earlier in the day then sat with legs up on footstool until they dried. It was heaven!!!smile

silverlining48 Fri 12-Aug-22 06:53:44

That’s a good idea travels. It was very hot over Easter when I had my op so can imagine how uncomfortable stockings are in this heat. How long must you wear them? Are you also doing the daily Injections? I did them for nearly 5 weeks snd as time passed it got worse instead of better. Never mind the end is in sight and to be pain free is priceless,

SusieB50 Fri 12-Aug-22 07:55:49

The new hippies are doing well ! I can’t imagine having to wear the stockings in this weather, they were so uncomfortable. Yes silverlining we are now 4 months no longer a new hipster! I was discharged from hospital at 6 weeks so amazed you had further appointments! I really have no desire to get in a bath as I haven’t had one for over two years , kneeling is OK and I have a chair or stool to help me up . The osteopath has been so helpful. He explained that my walking small steps are due to stiff ankles and feet and what a difference after he had pulled and stretched me ! My back is so much better too. *naughtyneine”you might consider an osteopath but I know some people aren’t keen .
I’m off on holiday to Normandy for a week tomorrow with my DD SiL and young exuberant GC . My late DH used to say we needed another holiday to recover. I’m slightly disappointed that the weather is going to break but it will be less tiring and sleeping will be easier .

silverlining48 Fri 12-Aug-22 09:18:33

Glad things are going well Susie. Enjoy Normandy it’s one of my favourite places in France.

travelsafar Fri 12-Aug-22 12:07:03

silverlining48 Hi i am not doing injections...thankfully but take two blood thinner tablets per day. I still have awful bruises on my tummy from the 2 i had done whilst in hospital. I am into my third week so need to wear for another 3. Luckily adult care services provided me with a carer each day to remove, wash my lowers legs and feet and put on a clean pair. As you know we are not to bend for 6 weeks so am thankful for this service because i dont know how i would have manged otherwise. Not long now and as you say it will all be worth it in the end.

SusieB50 Fri 12-Aug-22 12:09:17

* silverlining*,Normandy was DH’s favourite place too, we spent many lovely holidays pootling around the area , it’s the first time back without him so a poignant holiday …

SusieB50 Fri 12-Aug-22 12:17:35

travels I had a carer too each morning to put them on , some were brilliant at doing it but others I found not so and I had painful ridges on my legs by the evening . Basically gave them up after 3 weeks and made sure I walked about every hour or so . I looked up some research on the usage of them and a lot of reports stated they were unnecessary once mobile. I continued with the anticoagulant injections though for a full month . My friend had no stockings at all just injections !

GrannyLaine Fri 12-Aug-22 12:47:56

I'd agree with that SusieB50, the evidence is clear that the stockings confer no additional benefit once fully mobile and even less so if you are having anticoagulant medication. Hope you have a lovely holiday ?
