Has anyone had the pneumonia injection? My GP surgery has just rung and offered one to me and I have told the I'm going to think about it - seem to have had so many jabs recently.

It’s supposed to give lifelong protection Joseanne. IIRC I was offered it at 70.

Joseanne Thu 23-Mar-23 14:15:24

Thank you Germanshepherdsmum. I'll be ready for it when I get to the appropriate age.

I’m under the impression that the pneumonia vaccine only protects against one type of the disease and that there are many kinds. Perhaps this is a question to ask? I’ve had it and take up all offers of jabs that come my way.

I had both pneumonia and shingles vaccines on the same day. Absolutely fine, no ill effects whatsoever. I think it’s a no brainer really.

Pneumonia and Meningitis jag here ,I had no problems with it unlike the last covid jag which made me very sick ...for weeks after. The pfizer one I'd previously had gave no side effects

Liz46 Thu 23-Mar-23 14:54:41

I think I had my pneumonia jab a bit early because I have asthma. I did get pneumonia a couple of years later so I presume the jab did not cover the type that I had.

Kate1949 Thu 23-Mar-23 14:55:17

I had it last year. I was 72. I had no side effects but never have from any jabs.

From what I understand, the pneumonia vaccine protects against bacterial pnuemonia (which is worse than the viral type).

DH and I had the pneumonia vaccine and the shingles vaccine at the same time - although in different arms! No ill effects for either of us.

Pudding123 Thu 23-Mar-23 15:30:39

I was offered this a couple of years ago I had no side effects and was pleased to be offered it.

LizzieDrip Thu 23-Mar-23 15:39:38

Both me and DH have had the pneumonia jab. Both absolutely fine - no adverse reactions at all.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-Mar-23 15:40:55

I had it when I was 62 as I am asthmatic no problem whatsoever.

kircubbin2000 Thu 23-Mar-23 15:48:24

That reminds me, my friend had to get a tetanus one when she was 60.The young nurse said cheerfully this lasts 10 years, you won't need another one !

BlueBelle Thu 23-Mar-23 16:01:55

Had shingles and pneumonia one in one arm one in other 8 years ago
No reactions

Juliet27 Thu 23-Mar-23 16:13:51

Had it and the shingles one at the same time. No problem

Nanamary19 Thu 23-Mar-23 16:15:26

I had it 25yrs ago as I have RA no side effects just reasurance.
I have recommended a few friends to have it and they are glad I did

Wheniwasyourage Thu 23-Mar-23 18:01:03

We both had the shingles one in one arm and the pneumonia one in the other arm last autumn. No side effects apart from temporary sore arms. Grateful to get them - I've had shingles a few times and don't want to get it again and possibly worse.

It protects against pneumococcal pneumonia, which is caused by pneumococcus bacteria, so doesn't protect against viral or other bacterial pneumonias.

BlueBalou Thu 23-Mar-23 18:07:09

I had it, I wouldn’t hesitate personally.

Oldbat1 Thu 23-Mar-23 18:08:43

I had flu in one arm and pneumonia in the other followed with shingles the next month. No side effects apart from stiff arm for a day or so.

MrsKen33 Thu 23-Mar-23 18:11:43

I had it several years ago, plus flu in the other arm. I was quite poorly the next day, but only for that one day.

grannydarkhair Thu 23-Mar-23 18:13:12

I’m another who had it in my early 60s due to having asthma. Like most, no after problems.

M0nica Thu 23-Mar-23 18:15:03

Anything I am offered I take. The pneu jab has been round for years, shingles jab for 10 years, I was in the first group to have it.
Just say 'yes, please'

annodomini Thu 23-Mar-23 19:16:40

It must be 17 years since I had it and so far I haven't had pneumonia, though who knows if I had been especially at risk. Go ahead and have this important immunisation. It could save your life.

Elegran Thu 23-Mar-23 20:11:34

Get it.

Farzanah Thu 23-Mar-23 20:26:14

I will have whatever is offered, particularly covid booster. I know 12 people who are ill with covid at the moment, some of them very unwell.

It’s a nonsense to say we’ve had too many vaccines. Our body is challenged with multiple viruses and bacteria each day. Most of which a healthy immune system copes with, but not the most virulent, or if you are particularly vulnerable.

Without vaccines many would have died a premature death.

harrigran Fri 24-Mar-23 09:36:57

I had it years ago, no side effects, no sore arm. Worth having.
