As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate

Doodledog Sun 30-Apr-23 16:31:27

I don't think that either Charles or Camilla had anything to do with Diana's grooming though. They were in love with one another, and it was the older generation who kept them apart. Had they not done so, well, who knows.

If we want to leap to conclusions about other people's lives, it is perfectly possible to see their relationship as one where love conquers all.

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 16:43:15

I don’t believe she was groomed , encouraged yes.

JenniferEccles Sun 30-Apr-23 16:43:19

The late Queen’s wish was that Camilla should eventually become Queen Consort, so I’m surprised that Charles has chosen to go against his mother’s wishes, especially so soon after her death.

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 16:46:05

Who were the previous Queen consorts?

aggie Sun 30-Apr-23 16:50:00

All women married to a King are consorts , but the title consort gets dropped , Elizabeth the second was Queen in her own right so her consort was Phillip who was Prince consort , but could not be King consort as that would mean he was superior to a Queen .
No I don’t really understand it all either , but I’ve done my best to explain

aggie Sun 30-Apr-23 16:51:23

Elizabeth , the Queen Mother was Queen. Consort ,

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 16:53:32

Yes and Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra

Great point.

Seems odd to believe the King groomed Dianna, he was apparently told to marry her? He'd seemingly always wanted Camilla as his wife.

Dickens Sun 30-Apr-23 17:20:28

Anniebach

Diana had no concern for the wives of the men she had affairs with

I love your comments Anniebach - you just get straight to the point amid all the speculation.

Diana was wronged, but she did have affairs with married men.

hollysteers Sun 30-Apr-23 17:21:12

It’s nonsense to believe that Camilla wanted to marry Charles from the off. She was nuts about the dashing handsome Andrew Parker Bowles (Jilly Cooper’s model in her novel)
and that what what she wanted.
She always looks rather strained and nervy to me. I don’t think this will be an easy occasion for her.

NanKate Sun 30-Apr-23 17:25:58

I don’t think P. Charles had much choice in his bride. I think he was virtually pushed into marrying her. Camilla would not have been thought appropriate at the time.

I like Camilla she makes King Charles laugh and they look so happy together.

Long live the King and Queen. Hip hip hooray. 👍🥂🇬🇧🤴

sodapop Sun 30-Apr-23 17:27:09

I think Queen Elizabeth was well aware that Camilla would be Queen in due course
JenniferEccles she was just paving the way for it to happen.
I think Camilla has proved to be a great support and wife for Charles and will help him in his new role. I like her and think she is a down to earth sensible woman.

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 17:30:26

Camilla was so in love with Andrew Parker Bowles

MerylStreep Sun 30-Apr-23 17:31:57

How about moving on from something that happened about 37 years ago and had nothing to do with you.

Galaxy Sun 30-Apr-23 17:45:06

Because it's a soap opera, of course people are going to comment on it, it's like asking people not to comment on Eastenders if they watch it.

Iam64 Sun 30-Apr-23 17:55:18

Maybe I used the word grooming incorrectly - thanks Anniebach. In any event, I didn’t see Charles as grooming Diana, more the work of the men in suits.
It was a tragedy for both of them, their unsuitable relationship made into a nonsense fairy tale which fell apart in such a sad and public way

TerriBull Sun 30-Apr-23 18:01:19

I really liked Diana, I felt vey sad when she died so suddenly. In retrospect she had all the hallmarks of an arch manipulator. Possibly at the time it amused me to see how she always appeared to be several steps ahead of hapless Charles in the whole revenge is a dish served cold sort of way. I didn't blame her in that back then I felt she'd been used and deceived, she was so young and naive at the outset of their relationship but developed into a pretty canny woman before her untimely death.

Times have moved on though and as others have said Camilla is clearly his soul mate, she seems decent enough. I'm not an avid royalist but I wish them well.

Iam64 Sun 30-Apr-23 19:03:49

Another cracker from you TerriBull

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 19:14:13

I don’t see her as naive , Kate gave up working in London when the press hounded her, Diana handled them with no problem.

Diana grew up with the Royal family, lived on Sandringham estate, holidayed in Balmoral. Her sister dated Charles. I really think wanted to be queen, what a gift to her father.

I don’t take to Camilla, and I can’t even say why. It’s nothing to do with Diana. She just doesn’t seem very queen-like to me. I was reading the words of the service and thinking how absurd “Vivat Regina Camilla” sounded. I don’t like the word ‘commoner’, but that’s what she is, and I don’t see how marriage to Charles will change that.

Both Camilla and Diana are descendants from the illegitimate children of Charles 11. Distant cousins to each other.

This whole royal thing, along with Lord and Ladies is so absurd in the 21st century.

Will be carefully avoiding any of this rubbish next Saturday. Mind you think there is far more enthusiasm for the Eurovision Song Contest than there is for this expensive jolly for those who already have too much of our our money,.

Callistemon21 Sun 30-Apr-23 19:20:29

You have to be kidding!!
😲

Callistemon21 Sun 30-Apr-23 19:23:25

Well said, Terribull.

I felt sorry for both Charles and Diana, they both tried at first.
But it was never going to work out.

It's no good anyone thinking that she would be in the Abbey beside Charles had she lived - no, she wouldn't have been.

Camilla is the Queen Consort, JenniferEccles. That's what the wife of a king is – as was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon to George VI, Mary to George V, Alexandra to Edward VII. And they were all called Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra. Nothing untoward has happened, nobody has gone against anybody's wishes.

Nothing to see here, move along please.

icanhandthemback Sun 30-Apr-23 19:50:42

I'm going to watch the arrival of the guests and then switch off. I can't stand Charles or Camilla and have neither can my husband so we're looking forward to a day without tv!
