Greetings hipsters and kneeknockers. It is with great pleasure and some surprise that we have reached episode number 4 in this 🧵. Welcome to all.
Onwards and forwards we go. Advice, support, encouragement and everything else available here.

Mizuna that is the way to get around but please remember you must get home again.

Aveline Mon 15-Jul-24 18:38:13

Well done Mizuna. Take it easy tomorrow though.

Mizuna Mon 15-Jul-24 18:47:27

Thank you both. I have a bus stop one minute from my door, so it's all very accessible.

silverlining48 Mon 15-Jul-24 20:27:14

Try not to give into the temptation of shops and cafes on your doorstep mizuna….yes I am jealous because it sounds great, but do take things easy tomorrow.
The next day you can have another short walk but be careful. A trip on bumpy paving stones or missing a kerb is to be avoided at all cost.

Redcar Mon 15-Jul-24 21:15:15

You’re doing so well mizuna, I know you’ve been through it all before and I’m sure you’ll soon be on that bus to Perranporth!

Mizuna Mon 15-Jul-24 21:15:22

Thanks silverlining, it wasn't my intention to cause concern; it's a lovely convenient place to live, which I chose experimentally ten years ago to see if I could manage without a car and it has seen me through one other knee and two hip replacements already. I love having everything nearby.

The pavements I can't avoid but I've been on crutches for two and a half years so I'm used to negotiating them. Dogs on extending leads are the biggest nuisance and as we're in the ongoing busy tourist season now they are a hurdle, but one I've always been careful about.

Mizuna Mon 15-Jul-24 21:16:49

Ha ha, yay to that Redcar!!!!! 👍

Aveline Mon 15-Jul-24 21:25:11

Look out for those tourists with huge rucksacks and wheelybags!

Charleygirl5 Mon 15-Jul-24 21:48:53

I agree, I was sitting on a bus 2 days ago and a young girl came on with a rucksack, suddenly turned and hit me, not even realising she had done it. Luckily I was on the lookout and was not injured and my glasses did not go flying.

Has autumn arrived and nobody told me? I am cold.

Aveline Tue 16-Jul-24 10:11:56

It looks like autumn here, grey and misty, but it feels so warm and clammy. Not nice.

Callistemon213 Tue 16-Jul-24 10:15:04

The sun's peeping through 🙂

silverlining48 Tue 16-Jul-24 10:24:08

My washing is out and it’s not started to rain…so far
SE outer London.

Charleygirl5 Tue 16-Jul-24 15:17:46

silverlining I live in NW London and I am also keeping an eye on my washing. My recent food delivery is in cupboards. I feel a nap hitting me very soon. I was up at the crack of dawn, going to the theatre!!! The performing variety, not surgical.

silverlining48 Tue 16-Jul-24 16:07:21

Hope you enjoyed the theatre Charleygirl , but why did you had to get up so early to do so. Hope the show was good.

It’s been nice here all day, just for a change. Weather has been grim for weeks or so it seems. So no rain today , washing dry and back indoors waiting to be put away. Love laundry but hate putting away.

Charleygirl5 Tue 16-Jul-24 17:26:00

silverlining unfortunately it was all in my head! I got up early because my cleaner was coming and I wanted to do a washing also. It rained here but my clothes are almost dry.

I would hear a cat meow but I certainly did not hear the heavens open last night. I am amazed my house did not float away with the deluge.

I can finally lift my operated leg, after nearly three weeks of heaving it around! Yippee! Not that it has affected my walking fortunately. I'll take a bus trip today and enjoy the scenery and find a less busy town to do a little walking. Can't promise I'll avoid a café though silverlining. 😂😂

silverlining48 Wed 17-Jul-24 09:11:43

Ha ha 🤣

silverlining48 Wed 17-Jul-24 09:16:29

Well the sun is out at last and am going for a good walk with our group of elderly walkers through the hills and beautiful valley not far from where I live.
Then a spot of lunch together before heading home.

It wasn’t long ago I could not do this, the pain in my hip was just too much. So fir anyone waiting or recovering from hip or knee surgery there is light at the end of the tunnel.

silverlining48 Wed 17-Jul-24 09:17:13

Ps our oldest walker is 103, he’s fit and active and he makes me feel so young. grin

silverlining48 Wed 17-Jul-24 09:18:08

Still nowhere to be seen on Active…… I wish I knew why this always happens

silverlining48 Wed 17-Jul-24 09:28:09

Good news re leg Mizuna. Have a lovely day.

Charleygirl5 Wed 17-Jul-24 10:11:16

Mizuna I read on another thread your bus journey may be long today and you do have to return. Your knee will become very swollen and painful. Lovely as the idea is it may be a step too far.

Mizuna Wed 17-Jul-24 13:11:21

It isn't, thanks all the same. I know what I'm doing! 😊

silverlining48 Wed 17-Jul-24 14:04:29

Have just got in from our walk. The lavender fields all looked stunning and most of the other fields left to re wilding were full of colourful wild flowers.🌺 took lots of photos which will never look as good as the reality. It always surprises me that it’s so rural despite being so close to London. Saw nothing growing that was edible though which is another subject I suppose.
I am pooped. Only about 5 miles but it felt like 15. Probably a bit too warm. Not that I am complaining.
Now resting, feet up with a large glass of elderflower and fizzy water. Lovely.
Have a good day all.

Charleygirl5 Wed 17-Jul-24 16:21:36

Sorry Mizuma I do not mean to mollycoddle you. I will back off and enjoy the warmth for a change. 1/2 mile for me is my limit.
