For a few days now I have had a few itchy, sore spots on my eyelid and around my eye. Added to which my eyelid is red and swollen. I had presumed I had been bitten or stung by something while snoozing in the sun. Today I went to see the pharmicist as I couldn't get a GP appointment. She said it didn't look like bites to her and suggested shingles!! Apparently you can get them near the eye! Who knew?? But I have two worries. In ten days time my DH and I are supposed to be taking our two eldest grandchildren to Legoland in Denmark for a few days! What should I do? Secondly, once a week we have another grandchild ( different parents) for a sleepover and full day. This DGD's mum is 7.5 months pregnant and her dad ( our DS) is working away , so it really helps them out. I will obviously now insist on a GP appointments will discuss it with him. But I did wonder what would you ladies do? Thank you

I have been given advice from a pharmacist. It was to make a GP Appointment. I went straight upstairs to my GP Reception and because the pharmacist had been consulted first I got an appointment (telephone) within two hours. Luckily the telephone appointment was all that was needed as it was a wound infection not shingles.

I had shingles near my eye and ended up being blue lighted to hospital. I was in hospital for four days and even after discharge I suffered from severe nerve pain in my face for a couple of years. It's an evil infection - don't delay
