Winter time

“Well, it’s finally winter time 🧊
It’ll be freezing in the morning — my car will be doing its usual ice-cube impression!
But I’m actually quite enjoying it. I’ve done my Pilates today, had a nice meal, and now I’m home with my candles lit, the humidifier on with some lovely essential oils, and plenty of throws and cushions around.
I’ve got my pyjamas on already, so I’m just settling in and making the most of the cosy side of winter.”
What the best about winter ⛄️

Ignore 'Summer'.

StoneofDestiny Fri 21-Nov-25 14:12:44

I love these sunny chilly days but not so keen when it rains. I don’t like the early darkness at 4 ish though. I am more keen on the autumn now as I have detested these over hot humid summer days we have had these last few summers.

I love Autumn into winter into spring ...not a fan of really hot weather. There's only so many clothes you can take off 😂

My first Autumn/Winter since retirement and I am enjoying it far more than when I had to get up at silly o’clock every morning to walk dogs and feed ponies in the dark! Obviously I’m still up early but it’s so much more relaxed and the extra time in the sunshine is brilliant!

Hate winter, can’t think of anything nice about it at all.

Yes, roll on summer, picnics, swimming outside in the blossom perfumed air, cotton dresses and loads and loads of sunshine and warmth!

Youngnanny I bought some wheaty bag wheat and made this seat warmer for my freezing cold car seat. Obviously it only lasts for my outward journey but the seat's never as bone chillingly cold on the way back.

Autumn and winter, my favourite seasons - as long as I am warm.

Not sure about the connection between birth date and season preferred., I was born in mid-August, not only in my least favourite season, summer, but also my least favourite part of it, the fag end, when all the trees look dry and dusty and the gardens are going over and everything needs watering.

On the other hand at least being in the fag end of summer means autumn is not far away.

Hate winter, just cannot tolerate the cold, dark days, wish i could hibernate until April.

SillyNanny321 Fri 21-Nov-25 14:34:04

As I’ve got older I have hated winter so much more! Ache all day every day normally but can cope when it is not wet, windy & freezing! Every day walk now is a chore not a pleasure! Wrapping up warm just doesnt work for me! I still feel frozen! Wait impatiently for the time to get to the heating coming on for a couple of hours. Aches get aches of their own in winter! Roll on Spring!

Shinamae Fri 21-Nov-25 14:36:29

I love everything about winter, particularly the wind and the rain
I know that’s a bit unusual and I don’t know whether being born in February has anything to do with it but give me winter over summer every time…🥶🥶🥶🥶

Bukkie Fri 21-Nov-25 14:38:54

I was born in Autumn so there must be some truth in that theory although my Mum is a December baby and a sun worshipper. The good programmes are Strictly, All Creatures, I am Celebrity ....

AuntieE Fri 21-Nov-25 14:47:31

I love cold frsty weather, which is what we have right now. I do hope it lasts.

Jess20 Fri 21-Nov-25 14:48:26

Agree with Missiseff, best thing about winter is when it's over 🥶

Chaitriona Fri 21-Nov-25 14:52:18

I am pretty ill and not able to do a lot but my husband took me out in the car to places near us where I could see the Pentlands and the Ochils covered in light snow. So beautiful. There is no snow down here in the city. I love all seasons as the seasons I will see become fewer.

The best thing about winter is putting on my fleece lined slipper boots, making a mocha and settling down to an after oon with my knitting.
The worst thing is ... well winter really. Roll on summer and flip flops.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 21-Nov-25 15:30:08

Winter is a good excuse to stay in bed longer with electric blanket on. I have rheumatoid Arthritis and the cold just makes it so much worse, so I need to keep as warm as I can and yet still exercise. So once up it will be a slow walk to the shops, a hot drink and then home to the log burner lit, put my pjs on and cosy up for the night. Roll on spring

Just as this really cold weather comes in, I have men in replacing my boiler! Which means I'm trying to keep out of their way while also trying to keep track of what they are doing... at the moment I've just discovered that they are working on putting a flue through my roof - instead of what was intended this morning, changing some radiators.
I'm alternately too cold and too stuffy with a blow heater.

Yesterday was hell. Like being in a big ship's engine room, incredibly noisy; but freezing cold. Today has been quieter, thank goodness.
All this means I haven't really registered 'winter'! as I haven't been warm enough to think of going outside....

Mojack26 Fri 21-Nov-25 15:46:07

What you just said!🤣 Except my car lives in the garage.....enjoy

My favourite thing about Winter is that I live in Spain. 18.5 degrees and sunny just about every day so far in November. Dark at seven pm. Sunrise at 7:45 am. Just been for a snack and a glass of wine looking over the Med, all sparkly with the sunshine. Walking at the beach keeping our eyes peeled for dolphins. Lunch yesterday overlooking a white village, with sugar cube houses tumbling down the mountainside. A dozen eagles circling overhead. Spaniards wearing full on puffa jackets and scarves. Home made chili for dinner. Best of all, no grey skies and no chilling damp getting into my bones. Not smug; I fully appreciate how lucky we are.

DamaskRose Fri 21-Nov-25 16:20:04

I was born in July but hate everything about summer and love everything about autumn, winter and early spring., late spring means summer is round the corner. Yes, my aches and pains are worse but it’s worth it. I don’t begrudge people who love summer, each to his own.

HS62 Fri 21-Nov-25 17:06:12

I would live winter if my house was warm.

Greciangirl Fri 21-Nov-25 17:48:21

Good point Petra.

Cath9 Fri 21-Nov-25 17:51:12

You are certainly making feel cold as I am in Lanzarote but only for a week. I will admit I always feel at home amongst the Spanish people with being able to just about get myself understood with the Spanish that I have learnt

merlotgran

Roll on summer. ☀️

Indeed !

rocketstop Fri 21-Nov-25 18:20:43

BlueBelle

Hate winter and everything about it No candles or fires will make up for lack of light, warmth and sunshine

I agree wholeheartedly !!
