Winter time

“Well, it’s finally winter time 🧊
It’ll be freezing in the morning — my car will be doing its usual ice-cube impression!
But I’m actually quite enjoying it. I’ve done my Pilates today, had a nice meal, and now I’m home with my candles lit, the humidifier on with some lovely essential oils, and plenty of throws and cushions around.
I’ve got my pyjamas on already, so I’m just settling in and making the most of the cosy side of winter.”
What the best about winter ⛄️

The best thing about Winter is when it's over.

Yep !

I was born in Autumn so there must be some truth in that theory although my Mum is a December baby and a sun worshipper. The good programmes are Strictly, All Creatures, I am Celebrity ....

I was born in winter and I've never been able to stand it !

I love snow, but we never get enough much here. Not a fan of rain. First frost last night saw me picking the last of my tomatoes
But now we have retired, I can just curl up indoors if I do not like the weather.
Looking forward to all the bugs dying off.

While I have a good balance diet, my Vitamin D count is always poor in March despite trying to be out and about.

I love winter but I have to admit it depends when you ask me. I love winter for the darkness, the cosy nights, Christmas (I had to say it!) but I love all the other seasons too. Spring because everything is so fresh and new, summer because everything is bountiful and full of flowers and veggies, Autumn because of the fabulous plant colours it brings and a sense that everything is dying and renewing. It's the cycle of life. Am I weird?

That sounds like the perfect day keepingquiet! As I get older I'm enjoying winter and Autumn more than the summer! Though I do love the spring when everything comes back to life after the long winter sleep. I love having an excuse to stay in and read or do crafty things. I've been making Christmas cards this afternoon with a lovely candle burning and my music playing - bliss! 😁

I was born in the spring but love Autumn and Winter especially if we get snow. I love walking in it. Just wish our clocks could stay at one time all year. Takes me 2 weeks to get used to it.

Love winter. The sense of quiet peace. Slow mornings. The fire lit, a good book. And perhaps a walk by the sea if the sun comes out

Thankyou it was a good day, although I can't say I love winter more. I think since I finished work I realise that every season has its positives, but I have to find them in the winter, when summer you don't have to think about it!
For me it is the opposite- I love to get outdoors even on cold winter nights!

My DD is a nurse and works permanent nights . She found out this morning that if she goes into her car app on her phone, she can press a symbol her car will turn its defrosting setting before she leaves work . She tried it out and she was able to get into a nice warm car .

I’m not a fan of winter at all, I miss being outdoors a lot, but you make it sound so nice Youngnanny. I will endeavour to make the most of it and enjoy the nice things like you do.

I’m a keen skier and have skied all my life and of course, got my kids skiing too. So at this time of year, like to firm up my ski trip(s) and look forward to them. Looking forward to taking my grandchildren skiing when they’re old enough, prob 2027, when they’ll be 6 and 4 which are ideal ages. Don’t like the cold though, so I’ve become a bit of a specialist over the years in very warm clothing!!

I try to appreciate the best of anything the weather sends us and I have enjoyed the glorious blue sky and golden light. However, I feel under siege as I have Reynauld's Syndrome and get dangerously cold. I don't venture out without heated gloves and gilet and sheepskin lined boots. I've already had flu which has wiped me out.

All things considered I
think we have a wonderful climate here.
Compared with other countries, we don’t generally have extremes of temperature yet we get plenty of variety in the seasons.

I struggle to cope in heatwaves, but they are usually pretty short-lived.

As others have found, I do tend to sleep better in the winter.
We have a wet weekend forecast which normally I wouldn’t like but after the long dry summer I appreciate the rain!

I used to like winter but it makes my joints ache now. I have trouble keeping warm.
On the other hand, I don't like it too hot either. I'm just fussy!

merlotgran Sun 23-Nov-25 10:51:24

I’m struggling with the damper climate on the south coast this year. I miss the dryness of East Anglia which suited my joints so much better. My neck and shoulders are really stiff and sore today.
I’ve added Deep Heat to tomorrow’s shopping list but I don’t like the smell.

Allira Sun 23-Nov-25 11:01:49

According to the weather forecast on this device it's pouring with rain here now.

I just checked and there's not a cloud in the sky 🌞

What about Voltarol Gel, merlotgran? Just don't use too much!

Can anyone recommend a suitable cream for itchy dry skin in ears?

I’ve been using Voltarol but just lately it doesn’t seem to be working.

Yes, have you tried Canesten, it works for me. It’s behind the counter, but you don’t need a prescription.

I would love to have my open fires as I used to do ,last was about twelve years ago with smokeless coal and wood but no longer allowed I thought?
Nothing better on a cold winter evening, central heating is necessary but not pretty!

I do like the warm feeling Deep Heat gives you.
As long as you don't mind smelling of Eau de Menthol, Eucalytus and Wintergreen.

What is Wintergreen, anyway?

But you can get electric stoves and fires that look exactly like the real thing.

We bought an electric stove this week that is the same size and looks exactly like the real log burner we had in our previous house. The log and flame effect is very realistic.
