*Welcome to Black Dogs 29*:

It's supporting those of us who wish to be able to share our mental health problems as they affect daily lives:and share aspects of our lives supportively, give and take support. Its been going for some time, so this is a jump in at the deep end

All are welcome: don't be put off by some of us being there long term, people do come and go.

Stair lift people phoned dh today. Offered £500 pounds off but need an answer first thing tomorrow. Sounds to me as if they are desperate for the job but I think he will go for it.

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 23-Jun-26 08:02:43

Doodle I know you don't eat a lot, and the chocolate & wine won't be much, so perhaps any tablets you take might be the problem? I doubt you're "huge" - just do what exercise you can.

SweetpeaSue It's too hot for my liking. Day centre has been cancelled this week, although I wasn't going to go, anyway. I sleep ok - I have the window open all night and lie on top of the duvet, with just a sheet over me. Those cool mats sound ideal. Son1 gets them for their dog (she's a Collie/Husky). Gardening is hard work - I only see to the flowers and bird bath/feeders, DH mows the lawn.

Wyllow3 I'm not fragile enough to take offence grin. Yes, there are all shapes and sizes, and ages from perhaps 60 to 85. 3 men, too. Hope your first night's sleep on your new mattress was a comfortable one.

It's going to be too hot to do much today, so DH and I are going for afternoon tea later. Hope everyone manages to have a decent day x

Scaredycat Tue 23-Jun-26 10:26:48

Hi all

I,m sorry I,ve not posted much but the heat is so awful I,ve nearly become a puddle!!
Will be back later but just wanted to say hello to you all.
Went to see my poorly friend yesterday - she’s still in a temporary cessation of treatment . She looks and feels so much better but her kidney function is still not right. Also she needs the treatment to recommence. We had a lovely 3 hour chat - her house is much cooler than mine!!
Try and keep cool all of you who are hot XXXX

Wyllow3 Tue 23-Jun-26 11:20:16

EllieAnne it sounds like the financial hit is do-able. How do you actually feel about it now? Now he is 80 with hip stuff....but there is the question of some kind of rail left for all others to use.
A snag of a chair lift is that it encourages use before absolutely necessary but OTOH now the price has gone down its a sorta of investment. Oh, I do feel for you xxx.

Hello puddles. It's pretty fierce today out there and more tomorrow so I will have to change outing with older friend P.

Please don't melt Scaredycat you have been really busy after all.

That sounds like a good plan, HVDY.

I had a crisis in the night. It's about what I wrote last night - the stiff letter from Safeguarding offering no support as things unfold and quite brusque. Fell apart at 5 when I woke - wrote to them saying I need support, look its all been Zooms and emails for months and months and no one to sit down just for me to look ahead and recover and know whats going on. having sent that off,
I just felt the same, desperately abandoned, so I had some brandy and extra meds and just got up and have phoned my MH place to see if I can get a short (15 min) phone call back from psychologist for advice.

It's all wrong, wrong, isnt it? months with no named supporter and although we have taken a massive step forward, of course there is unfinished business and all the time

all they had to do was someone to actually sit down with me and...ask me.

Doodle Because you have a diet that means you shouldn't put a lot of weight on, this the combo of an anti ds' (for some only) and inactivity will put a bit of weight on,

but I am concerned there is another cause - have you had your thyroid checked out for example?

Wyllow3 Tue 23-Jun-26 11:23:25

My house is cool because I have only one room so I can have a though draught from to back, Scaredycat.
Does friend have any idea why she cant move on with the treatment yet? that said, as they don"t know how it will affect her, and she is in a good patch, is it urgent?

Wyllow3 Tue 23-Jun-26 11:23:40

front to back

Sweetpeasue Tue 23-Jun-26 17:17:07

Quick post - really flagging
Wyllow I wish the safeguarding letter hadn't been brusque but please dont let it set you back. We dont want you falling into that deep dark place as youve come so far. Do hope your psychologist got back to you and has helped . The night time is the worst for troubles.
Thankyou for your post to me yesterday - you understand well.
Scaredycat Hope youve not melted yet- far too hot isnt it.
EllieAnne Glad the stairlift price has been reduced - they must think your DH is quite keen to come back. Shame he wont go to a consultant about his hips though.
*

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 23-Jun-26 17:21:41

ScaredyCat Glad your friend feels better than she did. Is the kidney function problem a new thing? Does she know when treatment will start up again? This heat is too much for me. It's so humid. I'm indoors with the blinds closed, DH is in the 10ft pool we bought the other day grin. Jaffa's under the brick-built BBQ). He's been in, flaked out on the cold kitchen tiles.

There's no draught here, Wyllow3, so I envy you that.

Hope other BDers are managing today x

Sweetpeasue Tue 23-Jun-26 17:31:59

HVDY Ive heard those mats can be good for dogs. Took Fluffball for small walk in woods this morning but we both felt crippled this morning. Just been in all afternoon.
Doodle It doesnt sound like you eat very much but if youve not had thyroid check might be worth doing. Chocolate always makes me feel better too -- at the time.

So hot and just burnt a pan! Grr.

Hope everyone can sleep tonight. Xxxx

Sweetpeasue Tue 23-Jun-26 20:15:08

Son 2 delayed - no flight through thick fog so wont get home today. Fluffball again tomorrow.

Doodle Tue 23-Jun-26 20:16:14

Sweetpeasue there comes a time when you have to accept you can’t do all the things you used to. DH and I had to give up the gardening it was too much and one of the reasons we moved to an apartment.
Sorry your Dh still having pain. Is he due any more investigations from cardiology or the vascular team?
Wyllow I do go to sit fit which is run by a physiotherapist. My problem is my knees and feet. I have difficulty walking as my knees aren’t strong but my ankles and feet hurt too. I wobble a lot. To be honest I’ve no great desire to lose weight other than to help my knees. I don’t care what I look like but I do want to keep driving so worry about that. I am so busy I hardly have time for walking or exercise. I do like being with my friends so I’d rather do that.
So sorry you’ve been so upset by the response from safeguarding. You were so pleased the other day when Mr A got banned for meetings, I wonder if you’re having a low after the high. It’s been such a stressful time for you. I hope the MH team can help you and that Safeguarding responds positively to your email.

Ellie Anne I think they’re desperate too. Hope you don’t find it too disruptive or intrusive. I guess your Dh thinks he needs it.
Scaredycat I agree with you it’s too hot to do much. Hope you’re ok. Please take it easy and don’t worry about posting much as long as we know you’re ok.
HVDY like you I’m just too hot. The 10ft pool sounds fun. Is it big enough for aqua aerobics? Hope you enjoyed your afternoon tea.

Scaredycat Tue 23-Jun-26 21:25:42

Hi all
EllieAnne- DH sounds pretty determined re the stairlift. But he really needs to use his legs while he can.
Such a generoushearted idea for his BD- he might feel more touched than you imagine.
HVDY- this weather is too hot for me too- the poor boys don’t know what to do with themselves- wish they had zips in their coats so they could get out of all that fluff. They are enjoying cold luckiest out of the fridge though.
Hope you and DH had a lovely tea together.
Wyllow- we can’t open downstairs windows because the boys are indoor cats but upstairs is better as we lock the doors.
As you say the MrA saga could have been much less stressful if a bit more comm9nsense had been applied. So sorry it’s affected you like it has but it’s time to look to the future and enjoy some good times with friends and family.
As for my friend the immunotherapy has affected her kidneys extremely badly and she still has more of that to come. But she has had to have this break and take steroids to help with that. We,ll know more when reults from her CT scan come through.
SweetPeaSue- Nice words for Wyllow. It’s lovely the support we get from each other- such kind people.
I haven’t melted yet but this evening it’s awful and going to get worse.
Fluffball must feel a bit warm too - would she go in the sea if she’s at the beach?
Doodle- i,m sure you’re not as big as you think. Trouble is this weather makes us feel so uncomfortable and is not conducive to exercise. Maybe you don’t eat enough and your body is holding on to the calories. Try an ice lolly to satisfy a sweet craving - the orange juice ones are lovely.
The party did wear me out but a lot does now.😩the combo of heat and late night wasn’t a good one. We got a couple of very small fans to supplement the big ones and they are really nice as you can have them placed very close.

This afternoon my other friend with dementia came with her son and we sat outside the pub on the Green and had a couple of drinks. Her dementia is different . She knows who we are but has no short term memory at all which makes chatting a bit of a challenge. But good to see her.
Love to all and have as comfortable night as possible.

Scaredycat Tue 23-Jun-26 21:26:24

HVDY - I meant Lickies!!!!

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 23-Jun-26 22:13:50

SweetpeaSue Hope your son will get home soon. Fog?? Where's that? This heat is horrible, isn't it?

Doodle The pool is huge, would be good for aqua aerobics grin. The afternoon tea was delicious, at a place called Colwick Hall Hotel. Son2 bought it last Xmas. We've been before and enjoyed it. Have you tried an exercise thing for your legs? Revitive, I think it's called.

ScaredyCat I've always wiped a cold, wet flannel over any cat we've had, in summer. Jaffa doesn't much like it, but I know it cools him a bit. He loves Lick-e-Lix, but I give him one every other day now. Aww it's good that your friend knows you, but as you say, conversations are difficult.

DH is out with Son1. We've got LG tomorrow, 10.30 until about 5.30, so we'll go out somewhere. Hope everyone is ok tonight x

Wyllow3 Tue 23-Jun-26 23:03:25

To tired to post much but I was uplifted by the quaker Zoom and just had a reasonable letter from L the sane Quaker in the meeting she will have a meet up so I can chat things over sort of trying to put things into place.

successes du jour
Sewing ☺️ A summer top altered so I can wear it now (charity shop and a pair of nice cool pretty apricot cut off trousers I had clean forgotten about in the sewing bag.
Washing up 😬 Ok, 3 days, I did it.

I feel so glad we have BD's. x

See you all tomorrow when I'll catch up.

Too hot despite the through breeze!

(HVDY you had better choose somewhere with aircon tomorrow!)

Purplepixie Wed 24-Jun-26 12:03:33

Catchup soon. Trip was hit/miss.

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Jun-26 18:07:11

Look forward to that, PurplePixie. How was it coming home after, yet too see.

What a scorcher. I went to the gym for a haircut. (there is a little salon there, one hairdresser, one beautician)

As I walked through the gym doors, this wave of cooling air com hit me, and of course, round the gym! Fab! So I didnt rush away and did some active bits and bobs as had some electrolysis too.

But 3 helpful things also happened. Firstly, L from local Quakers offered to meet for an hour. Now its strictly limited as to what I can really discuss with her, too many personal conflicts as she knows all the people involved too closely, but it does mean she sees there is a genuine need ....my main aim is to "ordinarify" things. It would be naive to think there will not be issues ahead and we need to understand each other on this. She is not suitable to be pastoral care support.

Secondly, the head Safeguarding lady has actually offered me one hour Zoom to do closure, and I can talk about things to her I cant the locals.

Then bless her my psychologist rung for what was a helpful chat at the end of the day.

Back in later to hear of others days, and if you need a laugh and aren't too low to take them in, this is a very funny thread in parts.

Doodle I fear you are right about realising some jobs are too much but it's so hard to accept when we/ DH has always managed. We even did a little patio area in garden which involved taking up concrete-- 40 yrs ago! Never had spare money at all in those days. DH built rear gates and a brick pillar. Always did own decorating.
Vascular consultant was in different area and discharged him after stent. Phone appt with Cardiologist nurse in couple of weeks( extra tablet seems to have stopped angina attacks) Appt with Rheumatologist in November ( he sent him for CT on chest ,in July.
Oh I dont envy the heat where you are - its soon warm here - no air.
HVDY Too hot to do anything isnt it- I hate it too. Is Jaffa still taking cover under the BBQ. Wow, 10ft pool sounds great for cooling off - LG will love that. Im making do with a cool bath but its all only temporary isnt it. Been to Book group today and we ended up moving into the chapel room as everyone sweltered.
Wyllow So glad you can meet up with Quaker L , she sounds more supportive and you need that right now. Hope your meet up will be soon.
Great finds in some charity shops isnt there , especially if you can alter them like that. I would attempt anything like that - its beyond me. I stop at 'hems' . Apricot trousers sound nice and summery ,like the sound of those. Im making do with' tent ' dresses at present .Got changed into thin floaty nightie after early bath.
Scardycat Its very hard on your friend, with the immunotherapy affecting her kidneys - I hope she starts to feel better when the steroids kick in. Your other friend's dementia sounds a bit like my aunt's actually. Shes been diagnosed with Alzheimers but her short term memory is terrible and she often repeats herself but cant remember things you say while having a conversation- makes talking to her very challenging. Oooh your poor 'boys' - we've kept Fluffball in today - with a fan on and curtains closed on the sun. DH took her back and son had just got home.
Purplepixie Oh I hope your trip was more hit than miss. Take care of yourself .
EllieAnne Can we have some of your cooler weather please? Actually you might have the sun now too. Will you get more midges?

Hoping everyone has a peaceful night . Only problem with upstairs bedrooms is that heat rises. Take care. Xx

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Jun-26 18:46:11

I'm glad to hear that DH's angina pain has been reduced Sweetpeasue. What are your main concerns to take to the Cardiologist nurse?. And whats on the list for you in November? I did take more of the pain clinic referral - my feelings are, it cant do any harm and some people find that sharing with others can be helpful, less isolated, and useful tips

Well we cant all buy in the aircon like at my gym. Maybe - not joking either will end up being cool places open to all like hot ones in winter! I am currently lying down with nothing on but have 2 loose layered dresses that are the coolest thing around at home like you have on.

I will say awaking from a hot night and deciding I had to be presentable for the hairdresser a lukewarm shower really helped this morning.

Doodle... more knee thoughts - you have O/A, dont you - are you taking turmeric? Also some alternative medicine helps. As you say there are reasons you want not to be superfit but function well enough. There are self massage/pressure point stuff on u tube as well as shelling out for it (acupressure) as well as acupuncture (and I do those sometimes watching TV) but your weight gain is a mystery to me given what you eat. And keep up the supported knee bends while the kettle boils.

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Jun-26 18:48:41

Any aunt news btw Sweetpeasuesue

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Jun-26 18:49:03

sorry for spelling, its hot!

Doodle Wed 24-Jun-26 18:51:40

Sweetpeasue glad the angina attacks have stopped. Good you have a follow up with cardiology nurse. Yes it’s hard to accept we can’t do the things we used to. My knees are a big problem for me. I can only stand for a short while,
It’s been so hot here today, church was lovely and cool so we extended our morning coffee. At home fans don’t make much difference, just move the hot air around.
wyllow that sounds a more positive response from 3 sources. Hope that helps you. Wow your gym is good. Not surprised you stayed so long.
Purplepixie hope there was more good than bad.
HVDY wow that pool sounds great. The grandchildren will love it. I would be in there like a shot my feet are on fire.
Glad the tea was lovely. I look at that Revitive you mentioned.
Scaredycat sitting outside at the pub on the green sounds idyllic. Sorry the immunotherapy has affected your friends kidneys, hope the break helps her. Such a difficult time for her and her family and friends.
Believe me I am big. I am checking on my calorie intake and seeing where I can cut down. Will let you know how I get on.
I am melting here. Fans on but I’m so hot. The hottest so far today, hope it cools down a bit soon.

HowVeryDareYou2 Wed 24-Jun-26 19:16:04

Wyllow3 Your day sounded good, altogether. Haircut, gym, Zoom things, Psychologist. All positive. BTW, sewing - you're good with that. I can't do anything useful or practical - DH used to alter our boys' school trousers or sew buttons on (I simply washed and ironed them)

SweetpeaSue The pool is too deep for LG (35 inches), but she's got a little one (she's not very interested in it). Like your husband, mine built a patio, and did everything in the house (knocked down walls, moved the downstairs bathroom upstairs, etc). He can't do a lot of physical stuff now. I'm glad your husband's angina pains have stopped since he's been on the extra tablet.

Doodle This heat is too much for me. I'm wearing underwear and a beach cover-all thing. I had 2 showers today and am sitting with my feet in LG's little pool.

Too hot to go out today, so we had a picnic in the garden. LG was very good, as she always is, and we kept coming in to watch cartoons and eat ice creams. Son2 fetched her at 5. Hope everyone manages to keep a bit cooler tonight x

Scaredycat Wed 24-Jun-26 19:20:57

Hi all
HVDY- I just tried the wet flannel idea and they loved it- thank you. That’s a big pool - can LG go in it? I can imagine your DH enjoying the cool- it’s ridiculously hot here . I don’t like it at all- neither does my heart😩
Hope you,ve had a nice day with LG. We just went to Tescos and got some ice lollies and a coffee in M and S. Then sat by the fan with curtains shut.
Purple pixie- glad you’re home safe . Hope there was some good moments with your friend.
SweetPeaSue- good to hear you got to Book Club. Nice to have a cooler room too.
Challenging is the right word for conversations with our friend and your Aunt. Luckily my friend is fairly good natured although she changes her mind every 5 minutes!!
Glad the extra pill has eased D H angina pain.
Wyllow-the Gym sounds pretty perfect for this weather. Glad you had some helpful calls from people who are keen to help you.
I like your idea of cool places we could go to - who knows they may come to pass.
We are off on holiday on Saturday and it’s so flippin hot I keep putting off getting sorted. The boys are going to a nice recommended cattery- at least they haven’t any worry about packing😻😻
Doodle- hope you have managed today it’s beyond hot now isn’t it. I expect you were able to keep cool for a while in Church.
Hope your wrist is getting better every day now.

Love to all - stay as cool as you canxx

Sweetpeasue Wed 24-Jun-26 20:55:26

Scaredycat Glad HVDYs tip helped you cool down your 'hot' boys. Not surprised you're putting off the packing. Hope you enjoy your holiday - will it include the coast?
Wyllow Your gym must be great with the air con. Cool places would be great wouldnt they - I doubt if that would happen though. So much about what to do in this heat yet they have horses racing in York on Saturday, poor things!
Haven't seen aunt this week- shes staying in the home now.
About DH , I mean not worried about the cardio nurse appt as things have settled since the extra med Cardiologist suggested. The November appt is with Rheumatologist who sent him for the CT chest scan and also injections in shoulders though we've had no further appts for those yet.
I dont think DH would want to sit and share feelings with others about his pain in a pain clinic.
Hes been through so many causes for his ailments and I really think they've not found the cause for some of the pain he has now - eg right pain above hip could be from his back probs. Just so much is happening.
Doodle You're so right about those fans just moving about the warm air. Ours has just this min gone off- along with all electricity- men digging up outside our house! Could be off for over an hr I think.
HVDY Oh I see about the deep pool -- my goodness where will you put all the water afterwards? Aw LG would live that picnic - especially the ice- creams.
Stay cool in LGs pool. X
