Welcome. This thread is in support of those who wish to share their mental health problems as they affect their daily lives, share aspects of our lives supportively and give and take support. And is a continuation of Black Dog 29.
It’s been going for some time, so this is a jump in at the deep end.
All are welcome- don’t be put off by some of us being here long term - people come and go

Wyllow3 Fri 18-Sept-26 23:39:20

Maybe you will hit lucky and get a nice surveyor, do let us know, well goodness why did things like car faults haoppen on a Friday its always the way isnt it.

Goodness me HVDY. Calamity day! The hip fracture is bad. Was it a fall?

That is such great news, Scaredycat. Hooray at last. I hope she recovers well and it gives her confidence back. I hope meanwhile Sis is as well as she can be.

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 19-Sept-26 07:14:24

EllieAnne You put yourself down too much. Have a little faith in yourself. Hope the man is ok. Keep your husband out of the way, if you can?

ScaredyCat Great news about your niece! At long last. She must be feeling much more comfortable. Route 66 is one of those "once in a lifetime/bucket list"things to do, isn't it?

Wyllow3 Yes, he fell on the garden path, when his wife was out. Easily done, and it's something I'm afraid of doing.

Scaredycat Sat 19-Sept-26 14:50:44

Hi all
HVDY- oh your poor brother- it must be painful for him to put on his leg after that. What a day for, falls!!
Yes I,m scared now of falling in the garden if I ,m on my own and even if DH is there. I had the dressing off my leg yesterday so am extra careful right now in case I bash it again.
My neice sent me a text to,say she was a bit sore and very tired but so happy to have it all gone now.
We have been very lucky and travelled extensively in the SW of USA. That old piece of Route 66 is full of nostalgia and quaint places.
Wyllow- yes it’s great news isn’t it - at last. I,ll speak to SOS tomorrow and get more gen. I hope my Dis doesn’t overdo the helping when she gets home as she is still pretty fragile herself. They only live a few houses apart.
Loved those pink photos - 3 in 1. You would enjoy our monthly challenges.
When do you go away- I thought it was today. Have the best time - look forward to some pics.
EllieAnne- you better keep your DH out of the way. It’s no good him moaning about things but then mucking up an important discussion.
Please give yourself a break and see the person we all see - bright ,clever, thoughtful and very competent. Dont let those negative thoughts get the better of you.
SweetPeaSue- hope F is on her best behaviour today - she must be lovely to spend time with though.
We went for a walk this morning- so many people out with dogs of all shapes and sizes. None had quite such a cute face as F.
JandJ3- hope you have had better news about your DGD today.

Love to all- and hope by now Doodle is safely on board and is able to enjoy beautiful Norway with her lovely friend.

Sweetpeasue Sat 19-Sept-26 16:10:27

EllieAnne Hope everything went more smoothly than you were anticipating with the surveyor today. Oh, we had trouble with the sensor thingy once. I haven't a clue about cars but they can be such a nuisance albeit a vital nuisance. Perhaps it can be fixed properly on Monday - Im sure youd hate to be reliant on your husband for lifts and can well understand that.
Scaredycat You certainly have travelled extensively - you must have had some amazing experiences. I bet youve a lot of stories to tell of your times abroad. So glad your neice appears to be OK. Oh yes- do watch out for your now exposed leg and be careful. Sounds silly saying that though- as if you would deliberately knock it again. Your DS must be tempted to help out with your neice living so close. Its so nice for her DD though.
Oh def , F is a very loving dog. We have her next week.
HVDY Im sorry about your poor DB. It will be more difficult living on his own to get help but he must be appreciate all of your help and company now. What a time for all of thise accidents. Is the man who fractured his hip the one who has such a poorly wife who cant eat? They must be so concerned about each other.
Yes, F has some behavioural issues that need sorting though she is a very caring animal too. I guess they will do what they can get away with wont they.
Wyllow Hope youve got everything sorted for your trip - not sure if its today you go but I hope you have a good break away and enjoy the coast. Its good you have an outing lined up with your friend for when you get back.
Doodle I can only echo * Scaredycat's* words. X

Had a supermarket shop this morning.
Been joining up knitted pieces of cardis for sis's friend. Ill be glad when theyre finished as it has seemed such a chore. Been quite stressed out with trying to get them 'perfect". See both sisters and their DH and partner for lunch in pub on moors on Monday. Been a few mths since seen them so looking forward to that.

Hoping all have had a reasonable day. Love to everyone and * Nadateturbe* too.

.

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 19-Sept-26 16:33:43

ScaredyCat Even though he annoys me, my brother must find life difficult and lonely. He says he's aching from the fall, but gets on with it. I'll visit him tomorrow (he managed to get to the shop today). Be careful with your leg. Is it still sore? You're so well-travelled. Where has been your favourite place to go?

SweetpeaSue Yes, his wife hasn't been able to eat anything thicker than custard or yoghurt for 11 years. She's such a nice lady; she never complains about anything. She's also helping their daughter, who lives only 2 miles away, who is housebound (hasn't been out for 2 years) with M.E. I bet those cardigans you've knitted are beautiful.

DH and I met Son1 and his girls for a pub lunch, then had a mooch in a Polish shop. Son bought some Chorizo and other meats. Hope ALL BDers have been having a decent day x

Wyllow3 Sat 19-Sept-26 22:51:36

I’m becoming aware of falling danger because of my new relationship where he is vulnerable. Personally, I fell off the treadmill two days ago I had it too fast at the gym and just crumpled on the floor, years of yoga meant I didn’t hit stiffly. But then, I don’t have osteoporosis or even OA, family genetic fortune.

However I’m 75 not over 80 with these decent genes, and will then no doubt be more careful. I do get dizzy cos of my tabs and the Cf I have atm however so try to deep breathe and walk rhythmically and grounded.

So go well those in danger, yes it can be very significant if hips get broken, Scaredycat, but I was glad to hear about your niece. Yes you need to get the lowdown on it all, one need details on these matters.
Wow, the travel you have done. I’ve always been a homebird.

(Someone suggested we think of a cruise, now well it seems strange to consider it given I don’t travel far and have not a great deal, but there would be like a mini home in a room home comforts and it could be one of those see historic things trip or unusual destinations)

(not an all singing dancing dressing up every night not my thing). A swim pool, a gym…

Have you considered that Scaredycat the person also pointed out on a decent cruise the medical care would be better than one would get easily at home!

Thank you I am very nervous about going strange place and people alone but packed enough to know that anxiety out of the way. And the weather looks decent all days but one.

Yes I so hope Doodle is getting something out of it.

Today went for a walk with A, in the park, after the supermarket and it had just ruined bright and sunny with a breeze and it was lovely. People watching, always interesting plus dogs
In the cafe and..get this…large scones straight from the oven! I asked and they said out in 15 minutes so booked them then and there.

You are definitely Fluff’s main trainers Sweetpeasue. I think you are doing a fab job even tho it is a responsibility. Off tomorrow. So…its seems so far, so good, with the cards. Well of course you want perfect, understandable. But I bet they are fab.I hope you both feel well enough on Monday, that’s something to look forward to.

The GDG waiting for the operation I know now its nearer the end of the year so trying to arrange DS to come down with some of the children for a treats day. If L comes that means start with the family swim at the pool, she loves water, and it tires her out nicely.

She is a brave soul HVDY. Just only eating that.

Nice day for a pub lunch and a mooch today HVDY - I hope the weather was good like here.

I’m wondering how you got on, EllieAnne?

Thinking of absent BD’s, and hoping for things going best they might for JamesandJon’s DGD.

Wyllow3 Sat 19-Sept-26 22:57:51

Simple pleasures (hot scones at the park cafe. these are 4 inches across!)

Wyllow3 Sun 20-Sept-26 09:23:28

Aaagh, had a night panic, "I don't want to go" but light of day sees me packing, route printed out from google etc etc.

Sweetpeasue Sun 20-Sept-26 11:07:17

Deep breaths Wyllow . You're going to be OK. Once you get there youll have that beautiful sea- so calming. Hugs.x

Wyllow3 Sun 20-Sept-26 19:02:33

I got here fine.
Lovely room… lovely walk in rocky cove as the tide went out…in the middle of totally rubbish meal tonight… waiting to have a word as I’ll eat out if it’s going to be like this (several local pubs)

Sweetpeasue Sun 20-Sept-26 19:02:49

HVDY Thanks for your nice comments.
That poor lady who can barely eat anything- she must get fed up of thin foods. I do hope her DH is faring well enough in hospital and he can get home soon- ( the quicker the better for them both).

Had quite a full day today ( for me)
Out for another ball of wool to finish twins hats then costa. Back home where DH dyed my hair then out to visit aunt. She was upset when we arrived- in tears-said her house was being repaired and she couldn't go home till it was finished. We soon had her forgetting that though and she was fine when we left , which I prefer to have that way round. Hate leaving her upset.

Hope everyone is ok and sending love.

Sweetpeasue Sun 20-Sept-26 19:05:45

Crossed posts * Wyllow*
Oh dear ,hope that bad meal was a one off mistake.
So glad your room is nice and youve had a lovely walk. Sounds beautiful.
Hope you feel a bit more settled in soon.

Wyllow3 Sun 20-Sept-26 19:10:00

Sorted. Sort of. I don’t like sloppy veg and fishcakes with no fish in ……or chefs who don’t quite tell the truth…..getting and extra hot roll and cheese to make up for it…

Wyllow3 Sun 20-Sept-26 19:12:12

How is everyone,
Quiet in here today?

Scaredycat Sun 20-Sept-26 19:28:23

Hi all
Wyllow - so glad you,ve arrived safely and settled into your comfy room. Pity about the meal but perhaps the cook was having an off day.
Glad the sea is close so you can have lovely walks. I love walking alone on a beach it’s so soothing.
Hope you have a restful night.
Oh I forgot- that scone looks like a whopper - jam and cream hopefully.
SweetPeaSue- it has been a busy day for you. I,m glad your Aunt cheered up eventually- yes it’s much better saying goodbye to a smiley face.
HVDY- ah you can hear the love for your brother in your words. He may be a pain but he’s your pain!!
That poor lady - I can’t imagine the monotony of her diet. She must be a special person to stay as lovely as she is. Do hope her DH will recover well- she must be missing him very much.
Our favourite place in the SW of USA is a place called Moab. It’s among some of the beautiful red rock national parks. It’s not big and nothing much happens but we love it. People go there to mountain bike, hike, soak up stunning scenery and there is no light pollution.

Spoke to my Sis this morning she is going to visit her DD this afternoon. They spoke yesterday but she was so very tired. The Op took between 4-5 hours. Saw my friend later and she is very anaemic and will have to have a blood transfusion .

Love to all those mentioned and all Bds past and present

Wyllow3 Sun 20-Sept-26 20:50:12

Oh my goodness, I looked up Moab. Breathtaking rocks, colour and shapes. You really have been to so many different places. Yes I can imagine the canopy of moon and stars.

I hope your friend benefits from the transfusion. It's tackling all the symptoms, isn't it?
That is a long and very complex operation. No excuse for leaving it so long, but clearly not an easy one to schedule. Well it will take a long recovery I think, as I doubt she was able to be very physically active carrying that around poor niece.

I hope you'll get some little walks in this week all with the relatively nice weather.

(On the drive, which was OK but tiring, fun at the service station - the ladies was closed, and all had to go into the gents toilets.

Result - hoots of laughter from the women, guarding the toilets with the doors for each other, and rather sheep 🐑🐑🐑 ish men. Then, unbelievably, I stopped on an a road at a Greggs, and a similar thing - ladies was closed, long queue for the disable toilet, no gents in gents - so I asked someone in the queue to guard the door and went into the gents which was OK but the usual scents . (sorry if you are eating reading this)

HowVeryDareYou2 Sun 20-Sept-26 21:02:33

Wyllow3 Glad you got there ok. The room looks lovely. I like that it has so much light, with 2 windows. Beautiful view, too. Shame about the meal. Would it have been a microwave one? Hope not. I hope they improve. That scone looked huge and delicious, by the way.

SweetpeaSue You have been busy. It's always best to distract a person with dementia, and they usually settle down afterwards. The wife who can't eat anything - I couldn't, wouldn't, have that life (it isn't really a life, is it?) She weighs about 6st.

ScaredyCat Moab sounds so peaceful and special. Your niece's operation was drastic, by the sound of it. No wonder she feels so tired. I hope she manages to get some rest in hospital. Your friend will start to feel better after the transfusion. Hearing of people who are going through rough times healthwise makes me feel very lucky to be as well as I am.

Lovely weather here today, so I stripped and changed the beds, had 3 lots of washing on the line, then visited my brother for almost 4 hours. We chatted a lot. Having LG tomorrow as DIL isn't feeling well (how did we all manage when we had little kids??) Hope everyone has a restful night x

EllieAnne Sun 20-Sept-26 23:03:29

The surveyor was ok and I think they will accept the claim but I won’t be sure till I’ve heard from them. But to fix the floor they will have to take all the units out so I won’t have a kitchen for maybe a month.
No cooker fridge washing machine and will have to empty all the cupboard. Tbh I don’t know if I am up to it but no choice.
Dh can’t help .
I’m taking the car back to the garage tomorrow so they can plug in their little machine and see what’s wrong.
I want to cry but can’t.
Phoned dd and she was very unsympathetic about everything. She is very interested in world affairs and has friends in Ukraine and follows all the goings on very closely. I’m quite ignorant about it though I am getting worried about Russia.
Frightened for my children and grandchildren.
So I can see how my problems could seem trivial to her.

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 21-Sept-26 07:38:57

EllieAnne I hope the work gets done ok. Why do they need to take the cupboards out? Are they damaged? My Son2 has had the entirekitchen floor dug up and redone (cemented), and they didn't have to take any cupboards out at all. The actual contractors will be able to give you a better idea about it - the surveyor is probably just surmising. I think most people are worried about Russia and other world events, but there's nothing we can do about it. I purposely never watch the news on TV, and I skip through it online. It's a case of getting on with life as best we can. Your own problems are NOT trivial. They're fixable, though. Keep your chin up.

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 21-Sept-26 17:13:53

Had LG today as DIL felt unwell. Playgroup, lunch at home, park and cafe this afternoon. Got home to thick, black smoke all through the house. Smoke alarm going off. The dishwasher had been on and had caught fire at the back - plug was melted away to nothing. Cupboards and contents on either side (appliances are integrated) were covered in black soot. DH has replaced the double socket, and we've cleaned the cupboards out. The electrical circuit was all tripped, so nothing was on. Good job we hadn't gone out for longer. Glad Jaffa stayed upstairs.

Sweetpeasue Mon 21-Sept-26 17:39:07

Scaredycat That was such a long operation your neice had. I thought it was an ovarian cyst or have I misunderstood somewhere? Do hope shes OK and your sis wont be too worried.
EllieAnne How on earth are you expected to cope without a cooker or washing machine for such a long time? Not surprised you're feeling so down about it all . Oh Im beginning to be worried about our grandchildren futures too - I think because of Putin and Trump the world's a scary place right now. HVDY is right ,theres not much we can do about it .
Wyllow Hope you have had a nice walk today and your meal is much better.
HVDY My goodness - that must have been terrifying to come home to. I wonder why it had caught fire. You're so right that it was fortunate you weren't out longer and Jaffa didnt inhale all that smoke downstairs. Quite a mess for you to clean up - you must feel very tired. Our house has never been re-wired and is 40yrs old so you never know if everything is OK. I wonder did the smoke alarm go off too?
Hope your DIL is OK.

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 21-Sept-26 17:58:28

SweetpeaSue The black smoke, and the awful burning smell weren't nice. No idea why it caught fire (it was left on when we went out, but that's usual for us. Yes, the smoke alarm was making a real row - we heard it from the road when we pulled up. This house was built in the 1930s and hasn't been rewired. DIL has got a sore throat, not really anything else. The workmen didn't turn up at their house today, and have left things half-done. How are you two today?

Sweetpeasue Mon 21-Sept-26 20:11:02

HVDY Getting a house re-wired is a major upset so we just make do.

DH just the same but we had a nice lunch out with my sisters. Its funny, we're all different but it never ceases to amazd me how different we are as people. We all share the same childhood memories (though some recollections vary!) Think the men got a little bored by the end. Of course the conversation would be much more intimate without them though.
Back to diet now!

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 21-Sept-26 21:16:27

SweetpeaSue We're the same. DH is a qualified electrician but it would be too much work for him to do. Glad you had a nice time with your sisters. It must be lovely to share memories with them. I can't share memories with my brother because of the 12 year age gap. Are the 3 of you close in age?

Sweetpeasue Mon 21-Sept-26 21:21:23

HVDY Im the eldest , middle sis is 14mths younger and youngest 5yrs younger. We're all so different its uncanny - but all share same memories.
Must be great to have a DH who's a qualified electrician. Hed know straight away what the problem was yoday instead of having to get someone in.
