Online Supermarket Shopping

I've only tried this once or twice in the past. I have the time to do it myself so it's of no benefit but I've been prompted out of curiosity to try a comparison website to see if I can save a few pounds by shopping around. Having typed in my shopping list it seems that my supermarket of choice comes out cheapest. In addition, the comparison site offered a nice discount for my first delivery so I decided to take advantage this time and hit the buttons. But when I got to the checkout of the actual supermarket my final bill (with delivery added and discount voucher deducted) was nearly £20 more! Apparently this could be due to a number of factors... needless to say I hit the cancel button and will be going myself as usual. Is it just me?

Hello everyone this is my first post on here so if I make a mistake please forgive me.
I have been doing online supermarket shopping for a few years now and apart from the odd blip I am very pleased with the service I receive.
To keep costs down I do one big shop once a month and I buy fresh bread, veg and fruit when needed from our local market

Haha; bet you thought you could sneak on when everyone was asleep, but I've just got back from a party and am having a cup of tea! I bet the best thing about internet shopping is that you only buy what you need and plan your meals better [no impulse buying which I'm terrible for doing]. Welcome, by the way smile!

I'm up too! But it's only 7:00 pm for me! Welcome whatsgoingon! Supermarket delivery hasn't caught on over here.Maybe in big cities but not where I am.Wish it was available. One large store let you call and order...then pick it up but it never caught on.I think people like to pick out their own food to much!

The reason I am still up is because him-doors is snoring so loudly its impossible to sleep . I have been toying with the idea of joining Gransnet for a while now and tonight seemed a good time to join.
It was that or supermarket online shopping. wink

I'm up too! A touch of indigestion, too hot anyway, so I moved into the spare room. Now I'm downstairs having a cup of peppermint tea, and feeling very wide awake...hello, whats, and welcome!

Still a happy online shopper, by the way. smile

Oh, and hi there, envious!

PRINTMISS Sun 21-Jul-13 08:21:03

Well I am up and it is a reasonable hour, but I have been doing my on-line shopping. I started yesterday, but got a bit fed up, so back again today. I find it almost as exhausting as walking round the shop! but we have done it in the past, and stopped because we now have a Sainsburys on our doorstep. However my tumble down the steps made us realise getting a big shop delivered was a sensible idea, and I can of course do it at my leisure, just seemed to need more than usual this time, that's probably got something to do with the weather?

I'm up, waiting to take delivery of the waitrose deliver entertaining for today's BRISTOL LOCAL MEET.
Tegan partying to that time at our age?

Hi whatsgoingon and welcome smile

annodomini Sun 21-Jul-13 10:48:58

Good to meet you whatsgoingon. Hope to hear a lot more from you. smile.

henetha Sun 21-Jul-13 11:07:06

Hello Whatsgoingon. Welcome....

Never done online shopping but thinking about it, so interested to read all
the comments. I don't like supermarkets, but use every excuse to get out of the house or else I get depressed! But maybe if next winter is rough it might be a good idea.
Two disasters yesterday. Left the freezer door slightly open and everything has defrosted. Oh calamity!!!! BIG shopping now needed!!!
A light bulb blew and now none of the lights work!!!! Hell's Bells!!!!!
I hate living alone sad.

Ariadne Sun 21-Jul-13 11:19:27

henetha sunshine for you. You've reminded me that I meant to defrost the freezer in the kitchen...maybe later, eh? Hope you get things sorted out.

annodomini Sun 21-Jul-13 11:30:26

In the past week or so it's been such a relief to go into a supermarket for the highly efficient air conditioning. On-line shopping just doesn't do that for you. sunshine

whenim64 Sun 21-Jul-13 11:41:31

Henetha do you know how to check your fuses? Your lights will all come back on if you can just flick the trip switch, or if you need to, put some fresh fuse wire in the one that's broken. Essential for those of us who live alone! smile

Galen Sun 21-Jul-13 12:20:48

Circuit breakers are essential for us these days. I could never manage fuses. Reminds me, I need to replace my breaker board as its now over 15years old!

Charleygirl Sun 21-Jul-13 14:26:54

Galen-thanks for that tip. I did not realise that breaker boards had a shelf life of 15 years.

annodomini Sun 21-Jul-13 14:48:00

My downstairs lights invariably trip when a bulb goes in one particular light fitting, but it's easy to open the 'consumer unit' and press the right switch.

henetha Sun 21-Jul-13 16:29:14

Thank you, all of you for your kind helpfullness. I'm useless. But my son is
coming here this evening after he finishes work and will sort it out for me.
I have just opened the unit you mention and think you are right... one of the switches is down so I will try flicking it up.....
Thanks ever so much.

Elegran Sun 21-Jul-13 16:42:26

If it flips back down again immediately, you have an ongoing problem in the section served by that switch. It is probably the light-bulb you said had gone, so if that is replaced it will be OK. It is useful to keep a list near the switches of what lights/sockets/appliances each one serves, so that when one goes off without warning you have some idea where to look for problems.

numberplease Sun 21-Jul-13 17:15:45

Welcome Whatsgoingon! Our electrics trip like that now, but only since the fuse box set on fire, and we almost had a catastrophe, and they fitted us with a new box.

Tegan Sun 21-Jul-13 17:49:53

Blow me; talk of the devil and all that..was just asking about you on another thread, number...thought you'd gone awol smile....

Ariadne Sun 21-Jul-13 17:58:09

Oh, glad you'd here, number! Had just read Tegan's post and was wondering...

Nelliemoser Sun 21-Jul-13 22:52:02

Whatsgoingon Welcome it can be fun on here. I have been surprised to find people on here at 4am. We have Joan in Australia and Envious in the USA who must be in very different timezones.
