Heinz tomato soup (just can't beat it)
HP sauce
Colmans mustard

That's it so far - but will probably think of other things later on.

I always buy Colgate Sensitive toothpaste, Imperial Leather soap and Lurpack spreadable butter, Stork margarine for baking and Clipper tea. Otherwise I buy mostly supermarkets own brands and the saver items too. I buy meat at the butchers if I can get there.
I boycott all things Nestle after the formula powdered milk scandal and Tesco since the tv programme years ago about their policy in Africa and more recently their buying up of prime land, sorry to digress. No doubt I'm misguided, usually am.
Oh yes, I buy Famous Grouse whisky, love it.

In our household, the only item I can think of is Autoglym car polish!!!!

The only breakfast cereal I really like is Quaker Oat Crisps. Apart from that, I use Sensodyne toothpaste. However, mostly I seem to buy supermarkets' own brands for everyday use.

Typhoo tea bags
Hellmans Mayo
Heinz ketchup
Mcvities digestives
Sure deodorant
Heinz baked beans
And only ever buy organic milk everything else tastes rubbish

Re the matter of branding, "ASDAs" greek yogurt is made by YeoValley farms alongside their own branded products. The trays have exactly the same details on its the just the packaging that is different.

If you think of the industrial scale on which these products are made it makes complete financial sense for these big providers to make the exactly same products but just put them in differently marked tubs at lower prices.
That way they keep their market proportion going.

YeoValley Fat free Greek style Yogurt £1.50 (500gm)
Asda Fat Free Greek style Yogurt £1.00 (500gm)

Caveat emptor.

Too many to mention I prefer a branded product then I know what to expect and what I'm getting. I was once told Kellogs don't make for anyone else so its definitely them for breakfast cereals. I buy Waitrose own household cleaning products - hasn't washing powder and dishwasher tabs gone up enormously in price in recent years. Here's a few.
Twinings
Taylors (coffee)
Kellogs
Heinz (baked beans)
Lee and Perrins
Colmans
Tiptree
Duchy
Lindt
M & S- almost anything except clothes

I don't buy Cadburys anymore- very odd since being taken over by an American company and Boots is now very strange probably for the same reason.

Felix cat food, nothing else will do for madam.
PG tips
Branston pickle
Cushel (sp) loo paper
Cathedral City cheese

I am really surprised at such seeming reluctance by so many to even try new products.
Buy one item of a new brand and see if you like it.
If not don't buy that brand again and try a different one.

Come on Gners, live a little and perhaps save a bit.

As I said before I would so like to see how many people would actually be able to taste the difference if presented by a researcher who also does not know which product is which.

Lona Mon 16-Nov-15 10:11:47

Lurpak! Non negotiable!
Hellman's Mayo.

fluttERBY123 Mon 16-Nov-15 10:24:40

NZ kiwi fruit. The Italian ones are not the same at all cos of different growing conditions, not nearly as nice, not the genuine article. NZ had to invent the name Zespri after losing a court case when Italy started to grow them and call them kiwis. NZ did not register the name when it should have.

gillybob Mon 16-Nov-15 10:49:44

Yorkshire Tea Bags (for me)
Heinz tomato ketchup
Kelloggs Frosties (for DH)
Lurpak butter (there's nothing to compare)
Heinz baked beans
Fairy Washing up liquid (thinking of DH's soft hands)

Greg Wallace does a programme about that with another bloke doesn't he, Nellie? I sometimes catch it while I'm waiting for another programme.

I have previously been brave and tried own brand products but we can tell the difference between, say, Sainsbury's chopped tomatoes and Napolina ones, own brand tea and PG Tips etc etc.

gillybob Mon 16-Nov-15 11:10:57

I do buy a lot of own brand basics.

Aldi's Tomato puree, olive oil and balsamic vinegar are great and as good as any branded ones I have tried.

kittylester Mon 16-Nov-15 11:13:51

Just spotted your post gilly and can own up to buying own brand versions of all of those too.

stillhere Mon 16-Nov-15 11:29:56

Only one, as I am always looking for cheaper options - Twinings lemon and ginger tea. All others (that I can afford) are too sweet. Bleugh.

GillT57 Mon 16-Nov-15 12:12:20

Own brand basics
Nothing by Cadburys (taste has changed, really waxy now, prefer Aldi own brand)
Nothing by Nestle ( powdered baby milk scandal)
Sheba cat food
Hellmans Mayonnaise
Colman's English Mustard

ninathenana Mon 16-Nov-15 12:26:03

Have tried the alternatives, and 90% of my shopping trolley is supermarkets own or what's on offer but the short list I posted are things we prefer the taste of.

J52 Mon 16-Nov-15 12:45:09

Clipper green tea with lemon. Delicate taste. But I do like the basic own brand Museli, it seems to have less sugar in it.

Nelliemoser Mon 16-Nov-15 12:54:54

Aldis extra virgin olive oil is wonderful as is their Lyttos feta cheese. I would not buy any other brand.

kittylester Mon 16-Nov-15 13:36:47

I don't have time to shop in Aldi as well as Sainsbury's and Aldi has no GF offerings at all and on some products the ingredients are too small to read.

rosequartz Mon 16-Nov-15 14:16:45

NZ had to invent the name Zespri after losing a court case when Italy started to grow them and call them kiwis.
shock
Kiwis are New Zealanders and New Zealanders are Kiwis! Non-negotiable.
Those cheeky Italians and their flippin' Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese ......

felice Mon 16-Nov-15 14:43:24

H.P.sauce
Heinz tomato soup
Branston pickle, which SO also loves.
Jacobs cream crackers.

M0nica Mon 16-Nov-15 16:09:47

DH insists on HP brown sauce and will only eat Heinz baked beans. I try to buy fair trade and organic goods, but that is a different subject. I buy own brand or cheapest, unless the own brand or cheapest is something I have tried and didn't like - and I can't think of any grocery items falling into that catergory.

grannylyn65 Mon 16-Nov-15 16:23:25

Hellemens mayo
McVities Rich Tea
Tetley Tea
Used to be Branston Ketchup but Lidl v good!!
