I don't think people are 'getting' it rubylady. The thread title will just produce a list of things people can't do without, like family, grandchildren etc, instead of things they've recently acquired that they can't now do without.

The iPad. The soup maker. The freedom pass ( ok not THAT recent)

And in fact, we could live without all those things.

We only need food, water and air to actually stay alive...

I can't think of anything new that I couldn't live without but I'd hate to have to do without a washing machine or a shower.

Yes, I meant things like an electric can opener or an fan to cool down night sweats. The one thing that you have bought and think that it really is worth it's weight because it is needed in your life?

Obviously we all only need air and food and water to stay alive, that wasn't what I was getting at. It was just a light thread as a bit of fun.

I would hate to be without my Babyliss Big Hair hairdryer and rotating brush thingy or the straighteners I got with my Tesco points. For the first time in years I can get my hair to sit the way I want it. Three cheers for technology!

I would also feel like my right arm had been chopped off without my tablet.

Argon oil shampoo - it has sorted out the menopausal frizzy mess that my hair got into - thoroughly recommend it!

But, Imperfect27, I shall be hot-footing to Boots today for Argan Oil shampoo, as steroids have absolutely wrecked my hair ( and everything else!). Still, hoping doc will reduce dosage again today.

Haven't acquired anything lately I couldn't do without - I bought a new tablet but haven't used it much as I also had a new lap top last year and I use that most of the time. In that sense I would say the lap top but I had one before.

I can't think of a thing. I did buy an electric tin opener a week ago but I have yet to work out how the bloody thing functions.
