Cleaning a wall with a black mould tomorrow . I'm planning to scrub it first with Borax then wash it again with a bleach solution to kill the spores . Any other safe ideas ?

I can thoroughly recommend HG mould spray, like all HG products, it works. Available from most hardware stores or from here.

You can always have a look at Amazon and see what products have been given 5 stars and why.

You can get it from Lakeland too, I think. It's very good.

Dettol Mould & Mildew is also effective. I have actually used it on my parents' headstones to remove green leaf mould and it works just as well as expensive stone cleaners.

Or as we call it....Mild and Mouldew.....!!

Yes, I'd endorse HG too. The only thing that's ever worked for my bathroom. Just ignore the bit that says you mustn't leave it on your bath sealant for more than 30 minutes. I forgot about mine and four hours later the mould had gone and the sealant was still intact smile

I also find the HG spray really effective, we get mould on the walls of our old cottage and the HG spray works on that as well.

Just spray on and leave, I used to scrub at the black mould for ages and get nowhere, the spray is so much easier.

I've used the Cillit Bang one specifically for black mould - cleaned the shower seal a treat/

I used HG mould cleaner and grout cleaner on our bathroom sealent and tiles, does what it says on the can, perfectly, and the effect lasts.

I used neat Flash on a cloth and rubbed it over the black mould along the edge of the bedroom ceiling once and didn't rinse it off - the mould just disappeared and has never returned although it must have been five years ago.

I want to get rid of black mould on the sealant around one of my big windows, but it's on a slant and any spray just runs off. Flash didn't work on that though, so maybe I've left it too late...

I found Flash with bleach worked on the bathroom ceiling in hard to reach areas. Although don't stand underneath it as it drips! The Mould and Mildew one is really good as well.

I agree with Willow500- Cillit Bangk black mould remover even gets rid of the mold in bath sealant- it's the only thing I have ever used (and that's a lot!) that actually works!

We get mould behind walls in the flats we let when washers leak, etc. Those are plaster walls, so we spray them with a bleach solution from Tool Station, or just mix up bleach with hor water and spray from your own container and let stand for several hours (cheaper and just as effective). Paint a new undercoat with a fungicide primer type paint.

Lewlew Sat 17-Sept-16 10:59:54

Yes, as posted above, it's HG... need more coffee!

I have mixed other rather dangerous stuff if it's in the bathroom. Wear a mask if applying bleach, then Cillit Bang...I even use the strongest Harpic X Power to get rid of it all.

Mind, that it will clean the grout, but if it's black behind the silicone seal at bottom, you have to remove it, dry out the gap, spray some bleak in there, too...then put in new silicone. I use painter's blue tape to mask the wall and tray/tub surface so I can get a nice even silicone job done which eliminates gaps for water to work its way behind and create those black spots.

Good point --- whatever you use in an enclosed space, open all the windows, and get out if the fumes get to you, these are nasty chemicals.

henetha Sat 17-Sept-16 11:24:20

I agree with Wobblybits (love that name!).
HG is the only one I have tried that really works.

Lindy Sat 17-Sept-16 11:28:17

Yes HG stuff is great!

crazygranmda Sat 17-Sept-16 11:48:40

HG Mould remover is a miracle worker. Available at B&Q and other outlets.

I get mould in the corner of my bedroom wall from top to bottom caused by condensation. The wall is emulsioned not papered. Wearing Marigolds (of course)just wipe it over with neat bleach - leaving windows and bedroom door open (of course). Come back later in the day, and it's all disappeared.

tiredoldwoman Sat 17-Sept-16 12:06:23

Job done ! I used biolgical washing powder in solution first then a 1:3 solution of Domestos and water . It worked well and just cost pennies , really pleased and thanks for all the tips ! I hope it doesn't come back !

NanaCorinne Sat 17-Sept-16 12:20:57

For mould on bath sealant make a paste from bicarbonate of soda and bleach and use an old toothbrush to dab it all over the mould. Leave for a couple of hours and wash off. Cheap and really works.

If you look at the ingreidents of this expensive HG stuff you will see it contains exactly the same active cleaning substance as common or garden bleach

HG
Type Mould remover
Size 500ml
Ingredients Sodium Hypochlorite less than 5%
the HG spray has 500ml for over £14. shock shock shock

Household bleach is, in general, a solution containing 3–8% sodium hypochlorite and 0.01–0.05% sodium hydroxide; the sodium hydroxide is used to slow the decomposition of sodium hypochlorite into sodium chloride and sodium chlorate.[3]

Domestos is slightly stronger but the Asda basic bleach very cheap has the same concentration as your apallingly expensive HG. So you get a lot more cleaning power with basic bleach for a heck of a lot less money.
Stop wasting money. A number of their other fancily packed products have the simple basic ingreidients.

I remember reading something about mould and mildew remover vs bleach. I mistakenly thought bleach did the same job, but it doesn't. I have a tiled wall in the kitchen which is very susceptible to mould. When I used to use strong bleach on it, the mould only stayed away for a couple of weeks, but when I used proper mould and mildew remover, it stayed away for more than 3 months. I use Astonish Mould and Mildew Remover - costs less than £1.50 for 750ml in many discount stores (and it's cruelty free to boot!). HTH.

Nelliemoser Sat 17-Sept-16 13:49:09

Apology Sorry about the previous post on this thread the usual price is £5ish not £14 that was for 3packs.
Its still a lot cheaper than HG though.
