Miele Cat and Dog. Best hoover I have ever had and I've had most of them. Yes you have to buy bags, but they are big and last. I paid £50 extra for a 10 year guarantee, if it goes wrong, they collect, fix and bring it back to you. The suction is unbelievable and even though it uses bags, it does not lose suction. I was fed up of going over the same bit of carpet over and over again with my old Vax and getting nowhere so I thought I would invest in the Miele cat and dog S8320. Great machine, all tools except the turbo tool stored in the body of the machine.

I have seven children, endless guests , people in and out all the time and when they were all at home, navy hall carpets which didn't show dirt but DID show fluff.
Henry did the trick all the time. When he finally died, I bought a new one. I would recommend him every time. Good luck.

Had a Miele, tried a Dyson and didn't like it so back to a Miele. Great.

Having had a cleaning company i have gone through a few.I would never buy another Dyson, Henry is very good but the best are Oreck and Miele, although saying that one of the best i ever had was an electrolux that cost £75 but its was just to powerful and could pull up tiles from the floor.

Last time I had to get a new Hoover (about 10 years ago) I noticed that all the cleaners wherever I had worked had Henrys so I got one - still going strong

Like Mernice, I too have an upright Sebo, and I cannot fault it at all. What I especially like about it is that if by any chance it gets clogged with something, which rarely happens, it is easy to take apart and sort out the blockage.

Dyson cordless is great. I've got one also my 2 daughters.

JenRen56 thank goodness you clarified that your DH bought a ring rather than a vacuum cleaner for your birthday. My EX husband really did buy a vacuum cleaner for my birthday....one of the reasons for the EX ?

Cleaners in hotels all seem to use Henry so they must be good, surely? Easier on the purse as well

For many years had an upright red Oreck & small cylinder for stairs. Eventually upgraded to the newer blue one but was not happy. In time bought the upright Dyson Animal. Can't fault it for picking up but oh so heavy. Ok just going up & down but far too heavy to manoeuvre round furniture etc (particularly with iffy shoulder) Have recently bought the cordless Dyson Animal. Absolutely brilliant. Can get round whole house in one charge (not on max but never had probs picking up & Ive got a cat & 2 dogs plus husband & toddler grandchild!) Find I pick it up far more frequently as so easy to just give quick once over or quick & so easy hoover down the stairs. Truly wouldn't be without it now. Did look at GTech as well but felt it was still heavier to push round with motor etc at bottom of the stick. Would thoroughly recommend the Dyson cordless.

My dad gave us each a bit of money a couple of years ago and I bought an iRobot vac for £350 because I hate vacuuming. It cleans far more thoroughly than I ever could/would. It can be programmed over 7 days (I don't bother to programme) and it just sets away and gets on with things, even parking itself on the charger when it's finished. It can't climb stairs (Dalek problem), but it's FANTASTIC for doing the floors all by itself. I've got a cat, and I'm sure I could have knitted a dozen jumpers with all the hair it has picked up! I call mine Bumble because of the way it bumbles about like a dinner-plate sized bumble bee. I wouldn't be without it now, but of course you will still need a G-Tech or Henry for the stairs.

I've always liked uprights. I like Hoover but other family members were clumsy with it and the last one didn't last long. I had an upright Dyson for a long time which was good. My son bought a Henry which works well but it's very heavy and gives me backache. My other son bought me a cordless Morphy Richards for my birthday and it's great - I can just pick it up easily and do a quick clean up of a spill and can now do upstairs without waiting for someone else to carry it. It does not however do a deep clean. I bought a Zanussi as it was light but cannot open it to empty so haven't used it.

Before I bought my Sebo from John Leeis I checked each make out on utube. I also bought a cordless GRan to do quick tidy ups.

We have a Vax. The suction is massive. It has two settings
one = normal, the second deals with cat hair.

We also have a hand-held Vax, as we've two Maine Coons who shed just walking. Their hair waft upwards. We use it on stairs/cars/curtains/ arm chair etc.

Best of all, we bought the upright and hand-held Vax from the Amazon sale site

Sebo (upright). If the one I have broke down I'd replace it with the same.

I have a Miele, good suction for pet hair, a Henry supposed to be for DIY and car but DH uses it all the time as it is as good as the Miele. I Bought a small, light bagless vacuum that I can manage to lift up the stairs but probably not much good if you have pets.

I have just been treated to the Gtech AirRam and am wondering how I ever did without it. The upright is so light and has no annnoying lead to get tangled up in. It lights up to show you any dark corners and can lie flat to go under beds etc. The charging is easy with a removable battery. I used the hand held on my stairs and the amount of dust it picked up made it look like I hadn't used my Miele in a month. Skirtings are easy with an extra long brush tool. I'm in heaven.

Love the G Tech cordless. Didn't know it had a light for finding corners though. Things can only get better!

Just treated myself to a G Tech this week. Brilliant!! I knew I was on to a winner when I took delivery as I carried the box into the house by the handle using one hand. I haven't hoovered for years - DH always did to compensate for the fact he was never off the golf course. Unfortunately ill-health means he can't stand for any length of time but when he saw me with the G Tech he was itching to try it and, using it with the shorter handle, whizzed round the lounge and into the kitchen and announced he was taking back over hoovering duties. Needless to say, I was delighted, as much for him as for myself!

I have a Hetty (pink version of Henry) for garage, shed and bits if grit and leaves outside the door. Too heavy and bulky for indoors. Upright dyson for the occasional 'good do' but also too heavy for everyday, nor does it do under the bed or low furniture.
Gtech Airam for every day. Light, manoeuvreable, does under the bed etc and the charge seems to last for ages. Detachable battery for recharging which I prefer to the Dyson cordless which you have to click to the wall and is always on show, fine if you have a laundry room etc but I don't and no power point in my broom cupboard. I find the suction on the Gtech is excellent too, picks up the doormat just like the dyson.

I have a bad back and can't do any heavy lifting, which meant I couldn't carry my exsisting vacuum cleaner up and down stairs. So I did my research and invested in a Dyson Animal. I am so pleased with it, it's very light and, I can carry it up and down stairs. It is very powerful too. We had two long haired cats and I was amazed how well it vacuumed up the hairs. It's easy to empty. All in all I can recommend it.
