Dyson versus GTech - any opinions?

I bought my G Tech direct from the company, got both for £299. The little one is great for stairs, I have a stair lift, and it` so easy now with the Multi.

Do you need the tools from the larger one to use with the Multi? Or does it come with it's own set of tools??

We've got 3 Dysons, all for different jobs, and I have seen the GTech in use in a very large house.

The original Dyson is still the best. When I've heard moans from anyone I ask how often they clean it and get blank looks. The Dyson cleaned is like a new machine despite its age. The later versions have not been as good. My impression is that Dyson has a team more concerned with clever design than practicality. Insidentally production is coming back to the UK now he has got planning permission for a new vast factory.

The GTech is good but the battery will degrade. No amount of care will overcome that. If you have a large house then you may find that the power level falls and the action is not as good as at the start even if it does not lose all power before you finish.

Looks like it’s a case of ‘ yer pays yer money and takes yer choice’ OP, from all the replies.

Had a Dyson cordless which I loved, then got an offer from Dyson for a free one if I reviewed it honestly on their website. DD has the old one and it is still doing well, the new one is even better. Only slight irritation is two heads, for hard floors or carpets. Never seem to have the correct one on. As others have said, you do have to hold the switch, but I don’t find this a problem. Never had a Dyson break down and have had both corded and cordless. Perhaps I’m lucky or don’t do enough vacuuming? ?

Love my Gtech vacuum cleaner and multi. Having had a Dyson in the past I much prefer the G Tech and multi.

I have a Dyson V6 and at first thought that the vacuuming time was ridiculously short but then discovered that the 'extra power' switch was activated. After disengaging it the battery time is much longer.
Also, it is not necessary to install the docking station if you don't want to. I haven't and I recharge it by just plugging in to the electric point and resting the head unit on the floor or a piece of furniture.

Corded dyson every time but when it comes to cordless I’ve found the Gtech holds it’s charge for much longer than the dyson V6. I don’t know whether the more recent cordless dysons are any better

Thank you everyone for all your advice and for sharing your experiences. We finally decided on the GTech Power floor cordless which was on offer in Argos at £189.99
It looks like the best of both worlds - a stick upright and remove the stick to leave the handheld with all the various heads.
We don't have pets and as there's just the two of us (apart from GC invasions !) we think it will suffice.
Part of me would have loved the 'set' (upright and handheld) but we think this will do us at least for the time being.
Failing that when finance allows we could just buy the upright as this would be the handheld!

Thanks everyone for your input - seems as several posters have said it is a matter of whatever suits the individual! All going well so far!

Lidl is selling the cordless Vax this week for £89 and it has a 2 year warranty. Of course they are all boxed up so you can't look at them, but it seems like a good deal.
Gtech and Dyson cost a lot more than that.

My gtech air ram is fab, light and very manoeuvrable. It does seem a bit plasticy but has a 2 year guarantee. I am amazed at how much this little machine picks up. I am most satisfied with it.
