Dyson versus GTech - any opinions?

We need to buy a decent cordless vacuum as our upright is putting on weight and becoming to heavy to handle!
I see wonderful ads for both Dyson and Gtech each stating they are the best etc. and are prepared to get what we pay for, but before we spend what to us is a considerable amount of money I would be grateful for any opinions!
We are looking at the D7 which seems better than the D6 but do you believe the ads and the salesmen .....!
Have you bought either of these and found them great or terrible?
Have you bought a different make (e.g. Shark?) which was better?
Any advice or experiences you've had would be gratefully received! Thanks!

If you had asked this question 2 months ago fourormore I would have said Dyson every time, but recently acquired a GTech and it wins hands down. I got the little land held stair gadget too.

Love my GTech, and the hand held one, Multi, great for the stairs. Both are brilliant for cat hair.

Hi. There have been several threads on this subject. If you put 'Dyson Gtech' into the search box at the top of the page you will find them. I have an old model GTECH Air Ram K9 and a Multi which I love but have not tried a modern Dyson for comparison.

I have a Dyson and can't praise it highly enough I wish I'd bought one long ago.

vampirequeen Fri 12-Jan-18 10:02:15

I love my Dyson but have never tried a GTECH so can't really compare.

I have a Shark and its fab, never use my dyson ..though I've had two there have been a multitude of problems with them so no more dyson here

I've got a Dyson V6 and love it. So much lighter than my old upright, and being cordless, will go where my cylinder Bosch cleaner can't reach.

Just got a GTech and love it - seems to pick up such a lot on what looks like a clean(ish) carpet. Light to carry up stairs and easy to recharge. It does need emptying more often than my old rather heavy dyson but even that is so easy.

Wow what an amazing response - thank you all.
I will keep checking GN as I only posted a couple of hours ago! I will also look up the previous posts on this topic.
Then we will mull over everyone's comments.
It is great to get comments from folks who actually use these in a proper home! In the ads they all seem to be vacuuming huge spaces with sparce furniture whereas our little cottage is 'lived in' and has nooks and crannys!

I have never owned a Dyson but used one at work, personally I would never buy one from that experience.
A friend changed her Dyson for a Shark cleaner last year and she said she would never go back, the Shark is so much better.

GTech are, I believe, manufactured in this country. brexit supporter, Dyson makes his in Malaysia; for that reason I would never buy a Dyson. I am, however, considering buying a GTech as the area I have the most trouble cleaning is the staircase. Then again, I might buy a good old Henry [even though it isn't cordless!]. I did buy a hand held re chargeable vacuum years ago [not sure of the make] and it was absolutely useless [and not cheap, either].

I bought a cordless Dyson 6 months ago. It's one of those items you hope will change your life, usually they don't but the Dyson did. I wouldn't be without it.

LadyGracie Fri 12-Jan-18 13:25:26

I had a GTech then bought a Dyson V6, the Dyson wins hands down.

Just to be a bit 'difficult', I bought a Miele at a reduced price two years ago. It's the best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. Wouldn't change it for the world.

goldengirl Fri 12-Jan-18 16:03:10

This is such a helpful thread. I've been considering a GTech for ages.

callgirl1 Fri 12-Jan-18 17:02:36

I love my GTECH, and the little hand held Multi, it`s brilliant! Haven`t tried the Dyson, but have been put off Dyson by 2 previous "ordinary" vacuum cleaners by them, they were flipping terrible.

Witzend Fri 12-Jan-18 17:22:34

I love my little Dyson. Only peeve is that the filter needs rinsing often - it's not necessarily obvious that it needs doing - and it takes 24 hours to dry. We ordered a spare, but I do think they should provide one as standard.
I've had a big cylinder Dyson for years and it's been fine.

A friend swears by her Miele upright, but it weighs a TON, so she needs another for stairs and upstairs.

Tegan2 Fri 12-Jan-18 18:29:57

I'm going to buy a G Tech hand held multi; I've looked them up and spoken to customer services and I think it's just what I need to do the stairs.

fourormore Fri 12-Jan-18 19:08:35

Tessagee - you weren't being 'difficult' as any feedback has been really welcome!
The ads only tell you what they want you to believe of course whereas GN folks tell you the truth!
Paddyann - funny you should mention problems with Dysons. I called into our local vacuum repair shop today - they are Dyson specialists among other makes - they told me that Dysons are always coming in for repairs and he had four lined up awaiting his attention. Obviously things happen but it's a thought!
I'm going to look up the previous posts this evening as we are in no mad rush but thanks again everyone for the info!

Given that there's an offer of £50 off if you buy both, I'm wondering if I should buy the upright and hand held GTECH?

fourormore Fri 12-Jan-18 19:19:52

Tegan - where did you see that offer please?

Tegan2 Fri 12-Jan-18 19:34:52

It was in the Times....£199.99 for the AirRam but £299.98 for that plus the MULTi. www.gtech.co.uk or 0800 051 83 53 [free next day delivery]. Trouble is, I really only need the hand held one for the stairs as my old Oreck vacuum still works well.

Tegan2 Fri 12-Jan-18 19:39:10

Have just read that Argos are doing the same offer for@£279 but can't see it on their site....

fourormore Fri 12-Jan-18 19:47:01

Thanks so much - will look into it.
