Do you act on “urges”?

I really didn’t mean to do more than put some ironing away, but somehow I found myself bagging up sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers I no longer use and have filled two huge bags for the charity shop.
Then I started on the shoes...5 pairs (one pair looks unworn!)
Ready to go.
Better stop, although I do have an urge to polish some silver, after supper with friends the other night who still use theirs. And it reminded me of what I have got!

Definitely a quick tidy up can sometimes end in a spring clean.

I was visited by the urge to clean windows yesterday. Got eight done. In other words the upstairs windows, plus kitchen and passage. Now all that is left are the five that face south and have the sun on them all day. Should really do them in the early evening today, but doubt I shall.

Someone nicked my shoulder-bag containing my housekeeping money for the next fortnight, my passport, my international health insurance card and my visa card this morning in Lidl, so I am in a filthy mood now. Really ought to work it off on the windows!

Best way to tidy up is ask visitors over ! Nannyme just do small bits, set a timer and do one task, good luck.

Love having a good clear. I have just one prompted by the fact that I had lost my my big bunch of keys with all my important keys, also because my husband keeps saying found another pair of glasses (make 11 in all). So every drawer, cupboard and bag was sorted and either down to the charity shop or tip. Trouble is in about 2 weeks time I will go into the shop and probably buy it back again forgetting I donated it. Still looking for the keys.

I've often used old cotton knickers as dusters. One day when DD was about seven, she had a friend in to play. DD told me later that the friend had been horrified when she had used said duster to wipe the blackboard they were using. Apparently it didn't happen in their home.

Bathsheba
You are a lady after my own heart- I do the absolute same thing!’
This afternoon I had a hair appointment, when I turned op my hairdresser had booked me in for tomorrow instead and wasn’t free to fit me in later.
So... instead of sitting down and finishing my book I decided to have a good old clean and clear out.
Spare bedroom was gutted at Easter, some of you lovely ladies may remember the saga of the unwanted lodger?!
I did loads in about 3 and a half hours, it was very therapeutic and now my house is looking and smelling sooo fresh!!
I can get my hair done tomorrow knowing I have a lazy day planned!

I am not keen on housework but I do love to polish the silver because it used to be my parents and it reminds me of the hours Dad spent polishing it every Sunday morning whilst Mum was cooking the Sunday dinner.

Nothing like old knickers or tee shirts to make dusters!
I usually cut off the gussets and elastic bits - a process DD refers to as ‘removing the euphemisms’ !

Were it not for these sporadic "urges" I wonder if I would ever get anything done!!
Trouble is that I tend to over exert myself and make such a clean sweep that for days afterwards I bitterly regret discarding so many things now gone for recycling or the Charity stores!

My last "urge" was just prior to what we thought were exchanging of contracts and down sizing big time from a 4 bed/3 bath home standing in an acre of ground to a 2 bed/2 bath retirement apartment.

It was manic and a real case of don`t stand still or you might well end up on the rubbish heap!!!

There were several layers to this proposed move.
Furniture all set for the Auction house plus some antiques and precious pieces,Antique shop for other less valuable bits and bobs.............a garage sale for garage/ garden sale, and whilst heaps of older more used but yet sturdy clothing went to the Red Cross and Salvation Army..........whilst not having had a clothese clear out in all our 14 years of living here (I hold my head in shame..........urges were obviously on strike!!)........I ruthlessly went through wardrobes, cupboards, chests of drawers and more wardrobes ending up with some 7 black bags full, whilst a double bed were covered about 4 high from unworn, hardly worn, now oversized coats etc............our local Cancer Charity shop sent their van and went away smiling.............
The garage/garden sale sold almost all our garden stone urns complete with plantings, all our outdoor furniture, tools and equipment etc.............
ONLY to hear( when we were both very ill in Hospital taken is as emergencies).............the sale of our property had been cancelled.

Agh...................Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

As you may well expect and understand..............all urges also went out of the window......rapidly!!!

We are about to put the property back on the market.............and I am expecting a further few urges very soon!!
