Dried blood on carpet.

I am feeding my neighbour's cats while she is away. Last night I found the corpses of two shrews and a frog on her pale cream carpet. Fortunately there are no stains so far but no doubt there will be more 'presents' before she comes home. I have the same problem with my cats but am not always successful when removing the stains, especially if they have dried on. My carpets are old and I deliberately haven't changed them.
The products I have are Vanish Gold carpet care, Vanish Powerfoam and Dr Beckman's stain remover, none of which I am completely happy with. Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Thank you all for your hints, I had considered the use of salt so that will be my first option followed by some of the others, if the need should arise.

Dissolve a handful of salt in water and rub the stains with that on a clean cloth.

If the saline solution doesn't work, sprinkle salt onto the damp patch and try again later.

Can you close the door to the room with the pale carpet?

Presumably the cats will then leave their presents somewhere else and I imagine their owner is used to blood on that particular carpet.

We have an elderly cat with a tendency to vomit. We leave it to dry, scrape it up, and vacuum, as moving it wet and immeduately using carpet cleaner tends to spread the mark which looks awful until the carpets are professionally cleaned.

I was always taught that cold water as a first step...it must be cold as any heat will 'cook' the proteins in blood and then it will never come out. A bit of elbow grease and cold water will shift a lot. Then I go in with the Vanish gold foam as per instructions and it usually does the trick.

her cat her carpet her problem If you use something it may make it worse and then it's your problem

I always use Woolite washing liquid. It’s gentle on knitwear and so therefore good on wool carpets. Really wet the carpet and then use a clean towel to soak the water up by standing on the towel. I was told by the carpet cleaner man that things like Vanish can bleach the carpets so be careful

EmilyHarburn has given the best advice, shysal! Contact your neighbour before tackling that stain, she has probably had bloodstains on the carpet before (unless of course the cats have never brought their trophies home!) so will probably be able to advise.

The cats are still kittens really and hunting is a newly acquired skill. I think it must be the season for baby rodents, my cats are currently stalking a vole on the patio.
I am making a poor job of cat care for my neighbour. She likes the flap locked for the night with them in, but the little s*ds rush out at the back as I enter the house at the front.
