Morning all, much warmer today!

You reminded me of an incident from many moons ago Ellianne - we took our son to Spain when he was 18 months, in those days they were allowed to sit on your lap on the plane. I had everything 'spare for him in my babybag .... and then he vomited into my cleavage. I had everything but a spare t shirt for me! A stinky flight!

I'm in a bad way sleepwise, will go and get the magnesium tablets midgey, I couldn't sleep till 3 am last night.

I did email the EA last week and ask her to assist with the sending of the draft contract etc, she said she would contact both the vendor and the vendor's solicitor.

I'm not sure if the vendor is going to be a cash buyer too, fingers crossed she is, but wherever she finds will be forming my 'chain' and I'm at the bottom. I'm going to try and relax, we are in the middle of a pandemic and nothing is normal at the moment.

My book arrived yesterday, it's very comprehensive - 'Help me, I'm buying a house!' by Sandra Starke PhD with Dan Boddice PhD. It's for first time buyers and those who don't know what they are doing - that's me!

Enjoy your day. I'm going to walk even further today to try and tire myself out physically, it's been a week of sleeplessness and I'm looking very wrinkly! smile

Shandy hope you have a better night tonight. My bad back is lot better but some weird reason my left hip hurts. Think it's called getting older.

Haven't done much today . Made a Quorn and veg lasagne for my next 6 dinners. Watching TV and cross stitching this afternoon. Probably fall asleep during Miss Marple as usual. That's why I watch the bake off on all 4 or I would miss most of it.

One of my bog plants has started to flower it's supposed to flower during the summer. Still got a lot of flowers in bloom which should have died by now. I'm in the north west it's cold here. Have others got flowers blooming that should have died by now?

Franbern did your daughter get to see the doctor and is she any better?

Ellianne Wed 25-Nov-20 07:38:36

Me too Franbern. Hope your daughter is ok.

Franbern Wed 25-Nov-20 09:30:52

My daughter saw a Chiropractioner on Monday and says she is feeling a little better. He is seeing her again on Friday and has instructed her to get an MRI scan.

I am having a lot of problems with sleep - mainly due to my hands. Hate taking sleeping pills, but after the previous night having just two hours sleep, (5.30 to 7.30) I did take one last night and feel much better for it.

I am feeling tired so much of the time due to this. Day before yesterday, I became quite tearful, over nothing much at all. Supposed concerned about my daughter, got myself upset about brusque, but not nasty in any way, message from my youngest daughter, and could not stop crying. Eventually, had to ring my daughter here asking her to contact me when she got home from work. Bless her, she came round on her way home. Felt so silly, as there was really nothing that was making me so tearful. But we disobeyed the rules and she and I hugged. Half an hour and I was feeling so much better.

Yesterday, she and youngest son just turned up here in evening to see if I was feeling better and for him to tell me about him getting special mention/card from his teacher for exceptional work and behavior.

I am so very fortunate in my children, (even my youngest daughter), and my g.children. Not usually a tearful type, but suppose that every so often the whole horrible situation we are all in just catches up on me - particularly when I am feeling so very tired these days.

My g.daughter in London has just received notification for her first Uni interview (on -line, of course). Not one in her top two choices, but her UCAS (or whatever it is called these days) form was only submitted last weekend. Do so hope that when she does go next September, it will be a normal Uni experience in every way.

I was notified by my GP surgery to contact them to arrange my usual annual check-ups. Did so, and am rather perplexed, have to go in to have blood tests, etc. But the check-up on my COPD will be by telephone - not sure how they can do a breathing test that way - but there you go!!!

Ellianne Wed 25-Nov-20 09:38:15

Onwards and upwards again Franbern, it's not surprising you feel a bit unsettled. Take care.

Pittcity Wed 25-Nov-20 10:11:48

You know that saying about buses?
There are now 3 house moves in motion in my family. We are in a race with DD1 and DD2.
I think DD2 may win as there is no chain involved in her move. DD1 is way ahead of us in the paperwork stakes. So we are bringing up the rear and are planning for a January move.

Whiff Wed 25-Nov-20 10:33:41

Franbern I tearful get at times. I think it does us good to have a good cry now and then. You have a lot on your plate at the moment I am surprised it took so long for you to have a good cry. You are an inspiration. No matter what life throws at you battle through. You can't bottle up your feelings and having a good cry clears them out. Ready for what life throws at you next.

If life was easy it would be boring. It's how we cope with what happens to us makes us who we are. Moving house brought us together on this thread but for me I made friends here. And friends listen to others problems and help where we can. Look how you have helped me. I will be grateful for you all. And Franbern your PMs have helped me a lot.

Love the picture you paint of a race to see who will move first in your family Pittcity.

Take care all .

Shandy57 Wed 25-Nov-20 11:39:51

Morning all, just back from having my car exhaust cleared out. I've asked my mechanic to look out for a small four door car for me - I couldn't twist easily to put my dog in the back of the two door Corsa. Might even go automatic.

Franbern, so very sorry your hands are still so sore - have you finished the painting now? Big hugs, and keep weeping, it does act as a good release. I think we've all been marvellous through all this. I have much admiration for anyone that lived through the war, they couldn't even get food, let alone be frustrated by 'no slots'. I had a good cry this morning as my dog is going senile, when he goes a big link with my husband does too.

Pittcity wishing you all the best, shame we are all facing a move in bad weather. I haven't heard from the EA regarding the contracts. It will be a week tomorrow so I'll contact her again.

Off to the beach in a minute when I've checked the tide. As I can't swim I feel panicky when the tide is high in case my dog is dragged in.

Have a good day everyone smile

GrannySomerset Wed 25-Nov-20 16:59:16

Shandy the very thought of you swimming in the North Sea made my blood run cold. Definitely not to be attempted ever!

What a lot of moves coming up. It is almost six years since we downsized to a bigger village and bought a lovely garden and a severely neglected house. We have just replaced the last two sets of curtains so have completely “done” the whole house apart from DH’s bathroom and he couldn’t cope with the upheaval so it will have to do. Whoever keeps warning Shandy about the need to have money to make a new house into a home is absolutely right. We have spent about £40k including a large but not extravagant kitchen and one bathroom and I still have a list!

Ellianne Thu 26-Nov-20 10:01:11

Pittcity that is going to be a fun race within your family to all move houses. The good thing is you will have each other for support.
The house our son wanted went to sealed bids. He had already offered over the asking price which was rejected, so upped their bid significantly but still lost it. The market is currently crazy, who goes £50,000 above the asking price?
Hope your dog had a nice walk yesterday Shandy.

Shandy57 Thu 26-Nov-20 10:13:49

Morning all, thought I'd wake up to a frosty windscreen after the low temperatures last night, but it's quite mild today.

Ha ha GrannySomerset, you should hear the screams when people run into the sea here, even on a summer's day! I was a bit concerned for a kitesurfer yesterday, I think he was half way to Norway, I watched until he got back. Lovely to read that you have made your home as you want it, with that one exception. I got a very low price for the station and have about £20K left if I do benefit from the stamp duty holiday so I won't be upgrading the bungalow, but will ensure I maintain it. Luckily boiler is newish (January) and the flat roof was replaced on the extension a few years ago. I will have to spend some on the minor works highlighted in the survey, and am going to investigate the price of shutters, I really don't want to have to take curtains down to wash.

I've got a day of nothing planned today, I'm going to walk the dog three times, sweep the garden patio and watch the last few episodes of Mad Men.

Hope everyone has a good day smile

Shandy57 Thu 26-Nov-20 10:18:58

Oh Ellianne we crossed posts - I am very sorry your son lost out, but agree, who wants to overspend £50K? Could so easily be left in negative equity once the recession fully hits. I do hope something else comes up for him.

Whiff Thu 26-Nov-20 13:06:40

Franbern how is your daughter?

Ellianne sorry your son missed out on the house but what a stupid over pay.

Whiff Fri 27-Nov-20 08:42:03

After having a bad night with my hip and leg pain decided to go on the NHS website at 1am. Turns out have all the symptoms of Sciatica. No point contacting the Dr as I already take a tablet for nerve pain. When my pain gets worse my neurologist told me to take extra one until pain goes to my normal level then go back to usual dose. If I realised I could have been taking it for a week but just through it was extra pain. Doh!

Hope everyone else is ok.

Ellianne Fri 27-Nov-20 10:20:08

Sciatica is unbearable Whiff. Remember a lot of it comes from your back, so be careful how you lift, twist, bend and carry things. Not much life left after all those precautions!! Except to say don't sit or lie down too long either!!
Sorry, I'm not making light, I've had it badly myself for nearly 20 years.

Ellianne Fri 27-Nov-20 10:22:16

We humans were made wrong! We should have been given four legs like an animal to take the weight in a more balanced way. grin

Shandy57 Fri 27-Nov-20 10:24:18

Morning all.

Sorry you have this Whiff, is your leg numb as well? My friend had it last year and acupuncture helped her. I think she also had a TENS machine. Hope the additional tablet helps.

Just popping in to say I've had to write to the EA this morning to ask for an update, last Friday she said she'd chase the contracts for me.

Good luck to everyone else selling/buying, I am wondering when everything will close down for Christmas.

Enjoy your day smile

Whiff Fri 27-Nov-20 13:32:19

Ellianne you aren't making light of it. I can't sit for long normally as I tend to stiffen up. Reading the NHS website at 1am it suggested putting a pillow under your knees and lying on your back. I was so much more comfortable and went back to sleep after a couple of hours. The hot water in the shower was lovely but can't stay in the shower all day. I am annoyed with myself I should have realised it wasn't just back ache as it was my hip and down the back of my left leg. At least it's my bad leg. Used to pain in it. I could have had the extra tablet for a week. Well had it today and will keep it up until I don't need it anymore.

Shandy luckily my leg isn't numb that would be awful. Your poor friend must have suffered. It's good you are chasing the estate agent. If you don't hear back by Monday morning make a pest of yourself and ask everyday same with your solicitor.

Hope everyone is keeping warm as it's a proper winter's day today.

Ellianne Sat 28-Nov-20 09:04:48

How's your leg Whiff? Any better?
Hope you had a good night Franbern.
Still patiently waiting here for SiL to be allowed to come round and move our furniture back. To be honest he is still not supposed to come inside once in tier 2, but we can't spend any longer with the sofa and dining room stuff piled up elsewhere. I know some will frown, but I'm getting fed up being too careful about everything.

Whiff Sat 28-Nov-20 09:41:40

Hip and leg still as bad. But slept with a pillow under my knees and on my back so got a good night's sleep.

Hope your furniture gets put back soon. I know it's hard following the rules but we all need to stay safe. And be honest it's not that hard. If the nut jobs had followed the rules the numbers wouldn't have risen. Think of it this way we are at war only the enemy is invisible and it will target anyone of us. We can all catch it. It's not hard to take precautions. To be honest with today's technology and on line shopping. It's made it easier.

I know a lot of busineses have suffered but others have boomed. How many have spent having work done on their homes that they would have spent on a holiday. My home improvements guys are as busy as ever and got work booked well into next year. My brother's had a new roof put on. The roofer said they had been working 6 days a week since March and they are booked up until middle of next year. Other trades I have used are saying the same thing.

I feel lucky no one I know has Covid but family and friends have friends who have got it or had loved ones die from it.

I am not religious in any way don't believe in any god or after life. But the only phrase I can think of is I count my blessings.

Franbern how is your daughter?

Stay safe everyone and hope all your loved ones are to.

Ellianne Sat 28-Nov-20 09:54:10

I definitely thank my lucky stars too, all my decorations in the new dining room are stars this year! The French doors open out onto the garden so the family seated out there will see in!
I'm glad all the trades are busy. Our SiL has his own decorating business so we could have cheated and had him round in his work van to move the furniture but we haven't. We were expecting to be in tier 1 as we're not far off Cornwall for cases. Nevermind we will just get him round on Wednesday to move the furniture regardless. Then I might be able to get a photo of the floor!

Shandy57 Sat 28-Nov-20 10:38:23

Morning all, I've woken up to a hard frost, I'm surprised - and very glad to be out of the station.

Glad you had a more comfortable sleep Whiff. I've woken up with tooth pain, must be grinding my teeth again.

I hope your SIL can come soon Ellianne, I had a sofa stuck in the lounge doorway for a week just after my husband died. I was able to lift it but it was just too long, I need longer arms! I wonder what your marble table weighs! I have a lifesize marble bust of Diana and that's a ton weight.

Let us know how your daughter gets on Franbern.

I was looking at the tiers yesterday and don't think my vendor can travel into Scotland to view houses - there is discussion over people wanting to visit a supermarket in a different 'tier', they are being very strict. I didn't hear from my EA yesterday, I'll just have to wait and see, such unprecedented times.

I've finally finished watching Mad Men, the finale was thought provoking.

Sorting clothes out for the charity shop today, they are opening on Wednesday and have a trolley out the back you can leave donations in, it's an easy job. I'm not going to sell them on ebay. The washing machine here isn't great and I only have a tiny sheila maid for drying, plus I can't be bothered to iron things at the moment, I'm wearing my pull on woolly dresses. It just makes me too anxious I might get a 'negative' feedback.

Enjoy your day smile

xatajam823 Sat 28-Nov-20 15:56:10

Gosh that came around quickly and we are starting with shandy`s journey as she looks for her new forever home

Shandy57 Sat 28-Nov-20 16:37:34

Afternoon all, a horrible event happened today and it's still haunting me. I will only say that if land owners put up barbed wire and fences to stop the deer, they should check them regularly.

My EA rang this morning, she's off for a week's holiday next week. She rang the vendor, who said she had filled in all of the forms and hand delivered them to her solicitor about five weeks ago (it's six weeks tomorrow since I saw the bungalow). Unfortunately it appears someone in the solicitor's office tested positive for Covid and the office has been closed down . The vendor is going to phone her solicitor on Monday to see what is happening, and will be updating the others in my EA's office. I've just got to be patient, I won't speculate on why the file hasn't been actioned.
