Oven slob.

I am a keen cook as evidenced by my glass oven doors and I am impressed by your industry , ladies but personally I swear by Ovenu , only every couple of years now I am on my own and I think I only paid £90ish last time for a range cooker with cast iron gas burners and 4 ovens.
The lovely man also replaced the (dead) bulbs in the 2 main ovens and taking it apart meant cleaning bits you would have no access to, doing it yourself. Money well spent!

MawBe, the professional oven cleaner I 'employed' used to work for Guide Dogs. She rescues donkeys in her spare time and helps out at our dog club occasionally. She also paints and draws - dogs of course. She loves labradors (of course) and spent a lot of time cleaning our oven at the same time as helping to socialise our then 9 week old labrador puppy.
We all had a very jolly time and my oven has never gleamed like this since it was installed several years ago. Who knew the sides came off? Who knew the stains on the glass front could be banished? Like you, I love to cook and have become more of a baker since March, like many others.
So I'm looking forward to the prof cleaner returning and casting her expert eye over the pup as well.

I do cook from scratch and rarely do any oven cleaning, a quick wipe every month or so. Count me among the slobs. But when I had a repair man in when a thermostat needed repairing, he commented how clean my oven was, which is why I cannot understand what people do to get them so dirty.

I think I am a really weird person, from what I have read on this thread. I actually LIKE cleaning my oven, about every six months or so! I'd rather do that than dust, hoover or iron any day! I think it's because I enjoy dismantling things, sorting them out and putting them back together - learned from my Dad when I was very young and my older brothers showed no interest in anything practical. I can also strip down a carburretor and clean it, which is now a defunct skill, alas!!!!

I have an oven (like NotSpaghetti) that has a setting where it heats to a temperature that turns dirt to dust - mine is a Siemens. When you open the door once it has cooled, there is a wee pile of dust to wipe away. It’s brilliant! For the shelves (which can’t stay in under these temperatures) I use Oven Mate for shelves. Also brilliant. They just need rinsed and are totally clean when they come out of the bags. Oh, I love my oven.

No, Mawbe it isn't a putdown, it is a real query the answer to which has puzzled me for many years. I usually back out of copmetitive cleaning threads because my standards are so low I would be drummed off GN if people realised, which, as I said, is why I cannot work out either how my oven stays clean or others don't

When I’m cooking say, a casserole, I lift the lid and dive in with a spoon several times to give it a stir, then the liquid splashes.
When the liquid lands on the shelves it turns to a sort of brown solid gel that wraps around the rungs. I’m sure there’s a proper word for it.
Mine is gas BTW which I think is dirtier than electric.

I like it when it's done, very satisfying, and always resolve to keep it clean but then I don't.

MawBe - you can tell by the excitement in my post that it was definitely the high light of our Christmas visitors. That is no one except the masked and gloved oven cleaner.

I always take a dish out of the oven before stirring or tasting, and then put it back. I have burnt myself on oven door/shelf/dish too many times to do anything else.

For the last 15 years I have been using a slow cooker for most casseroles.

This thread inspired me to clean our filthy oven for the first time in years months. I'm not reading this again!

I pretty much ignore mine until I cook roast pork and then good crackling demands the ultimate oven sacrifice. My oven has removable liners which, along with the racks, go into the dishwasher, and I have a silicone liner which I bought from Aldi which fits the oven bottom perfectly and just needs a wipe over. My son usee an oven cleaning firm and says it looks sensational afterwards.

I never do open roasting so mine isn't too bad. It has a pyrolytic setting for cleaning which works, but creates horrible fumes - need to keep the back door open.
After having gas ovens most of my life, electric is cleaner.
I still prefer gas though, more controllable.

Yes I put my hand up to being an oven slob. Once a year I have someone into give then cooker and oven and real good clean. They do it far better than I ever could.
