Who remembers these, those were the days, I remember we used to have the pink in our bathroom when I lived at home to match the white bath and pink and white bathroom tiles

Katek

You can still buy it in very funky colours! I must admit I had the black ones as a 'display' item in a black/white bathroom!

So that's where they got it from for Taskmaster!

My understanding was that it was bad for the planet because of the dye used.

Wyllow3 Sun 26-Feb-23 11:28:45

Mumsnet has been and gorn and talked about it too....

OTOH, you can get a bidet...

I was a Saturday girl in a grocer’s shop many years ago.

The Andrex was kept on a high shelf near the ceiling, you needed a hooked pole to flick the rolls down. I got quite adept at it.

One particular customer always came for her order in the afternoon, and she always had a twin pack of pink Andrex. Getting ahead of myself, I flicked one pack down early in anticipation, only to be greeted with “Oh, I’ve had my bathroom decorated, I now want peach/blue/green”-(can’t recall what was the new colour scheme).

Gave up trying to anticipate future requirements after that.

"This all has set off my memory - anyone else remember the boxes of paper tissues in a rainbow of pastel colours? I loved those! grin."

I will never forget when I had had a miscarriage but was pregnant again. We had run out of toilet paper, so had temporally popped a box of coloured tissues into the bathroom. I peed, wiped and caught sight of the thin pink tissue with a bright red streak across the middle. Promptly went into a full blown panic attack on the floor while locked in the bathroom. A horrible memory.

I’ve just followed that link you posted Wyllow3 apparently the author Jilly Cooper thought coloured toilet tissue was COMMON! How very dare she?🤨 I recall not that long ago buying Champagne coloured loo roll. sort of miss the variety.
I also miss the variety of other household stuff that used to be available to choose from such as plastic washing up bowls ( yep no dishwasher here) that actually fit an average dinner plate and my sink and in a variety of common colours ditto with draining racks etc etc. Nowdays it’s getting like the former Soviet Union with every shade as long as it’s white…..sorry forgot the dreaded “grey” Just soooo boring. imo of course🤗

Don't think I will buy the toilet rolls with no cardboard middles. You won't be able to squeeze them so that the roll doesn't unravel all over the floor.

SueDonim Sun 26-Feb-23 12:10:21

I’ve never squeezed a toilet roll in my life (except possibly by accident)! Nor do my loo rolls unravel. That’s in umpteen houses I’ve lived in so it’s not the roll holder.

My son offended Mum when he came out of the bathroom and said it smelt. We later realised that it was a little cardboard air freshener thingy that went inside the toilet roll and he thought it smelt nice smile

Someone told me that the white toilet paper is dyed anyway as that is not it's natural colour. I don't know if it's true.

bevisp1 Sun 26-Feb-23 12:30:33

Pink, green, blue and traditional white… which at the time I thought white seemed that you were poorer if you didn’t buy the coloured rolls…

I think most is bleached henetha

Peach coloured paper is still available!

Calendargirl Sun 26-Feb-23 13:00:29

Whatever colour it is, the rolls are definitely smaller, with fewer sheets.

They don’t last very long, and we are not extravagant with our usage.

I blush to admit that I received a roll of Christmas toilet paper in an office Secret Santa and put it in my bathroom (it had a holly design on it 😲)!

I’d buy that if I saw it 😃

DanniRae Sun 26-Feb-23 13:30:48

I always but Christmas toilet paper from M&S, and Christmas kitchen roll too!
We are a jolly lot at Christmas grin

M0nica Sun 26-Feb-23 13:47:35

What is the problem with coloured loo paper? Mine matched my towels.

I never went in for crotchetted loo roll covers. had a wicker baskets with about a dozen spare rolls in - still do.

We had white bathroom suite at home, white loo rolls. Now we have white suite, white loo rolls. Christmas loo rolls for December.

Glorianny Sun 26-Feb-23 14:06:26

I had to Google it. I seemed to remember someone tellingme it poisoned fishes.
Anyway it is a combination of things. One being fashion and another it costs more to make.

Calendargirl the sheets of loo roll were definitely wider, another “mystery” ?

Georgesgran Sun 26-Feb-23 16:25:02

I’m not faithful to any brand of loo roll, but it’s noticeable the different in makes and some rolls are almost an inch narrower than others and often more loosely rolled too.
Another one here who buys Christmas loo rolls - some had holly, some silver stars.

Georgesgran Sun 26-Feb-23 16:25:55

Difference, sorry.

ParlorGames Sun 26-Feb-23 16:32:14

Didn't there used to be a floral alternative too? I don't mean the one with images compressed into the paper - I mean actual flowers printed onto the loo paper?

V3ra Sun 26-Feb-23 17:32:21

Our holiday club has provided unbleached kitchen roll, tissues and toilet roll for several years now. All a pale beige colour.

pinkprincess Sun 26-Feb-23 18:15:18

I just use thin white loo paper now, the quilted stuff has been known to block drains.
