Coloured Toilet paper

The rolls are smaller, but evidently Sainsburys led the way with this particular economy - they made the cardboard roller slightly smaller, and then more rolls could be fitted onto a lorry, which saved fuel. I don't know if they also reduced the number of sheets, but it seemed a good, green idea. I do recall peach, green, blue, and pink paper, and a friend had a 'Sun King' bathroom suite fitted. A horrible tan colour. Another friend had a chocolate brown suite with gold taps; every time it was used the bath and basin looked scummy and awful, and had to be cleaned. How we were - so amusing to look back.

I remember buying green paper to match my avocado bathroom suite. So very 1980's!
Nowadays I buy white, double-sized paper - 6 rolls = 12 - and they seem to last forever. Luckily they fit onto the holder as the cardboard inner is a regular size.
I've bought them from Tesco but prefer Asda's as they are much softer.

I remember an aunt who had a mauve loo roll in her downstairs toilet which matched the multi coloured flowers on the tiles! I thought it was the height of style and sophistication as we only had white rolls at home.
I now buy my toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap who use the profits to build toilets where needed. It only comes in white but the paper wrapping each roll is very colourful!

Shysal, I’ve bought cushelle they were on offer. Lasted longer than other brands. Why is the paper innards always left on side for me to move.

I remember black and white ( newspaper sheets in the wash house loo outside).
Upstairs in the house was 'tracing paper'.

When coloured tissue came in I always thought it was rather twee, and , once used, the resulting blended colour could be rather unpleasant!

I'd forgotten about the multicoloured tissues. As a child i used to pull all the colours out until i got to the colour i wanted. We used to use coloured toilet rolls to match the bathroom. I remember having lilac.

You can still get it on amazon and B&M and some Tesco stores sometimes sell a brand called Renova which is very bright pink or ornage and I have seen it in Lidle too . M&s sold coloured and patterned loo till around covid time. My friend still buys it on eBay.

Yes, I remember pink, blue and peach toilet paper. We had an avocado bathroom suite at one stage but I don't remember avocado toilet paper so we must have slummed it with non-matching paper. Also remember Izal and Bronco.... and before that sheets of newspaper hanging on a nail in my grandmother's outside lavatory.

what about the San Izal toilet paper we had to use at school!!

I'd love to get standard issue, coloured toilet paper! I tried s while ago to get pink but red that it had been long discontinued because of health and safety concerns about the dye.....

Yes, sheets of newspaper in the loo down the garden, my earliest memory. Then Izal. When soft rolls were invented, my mother insisted that a soft piece needed a backing of Izal, for firmness.
Even in 1988, when I started in a new job, there was still Izal in the ladies staff loos. A new Headteacher changed all that.

So sorry when I couldn't get blue paper any more to match my blue bathroom. Still have the blue bathroom and love it. I remember when coloured bathrooms were the height of sophistication, and now you can only get white which I grew up with.

I have recently used the Cushelle minus rolls and 1 pack lasted us 6 weeeks, which is longer. S seems worth the extra.

Oh yes. I had a pink bathroom suite which I loved, so of course had the matching loo paper. I cringe when I think about it. 😱

... I had an (wait for it) 'avocado' suite - with pink TP.

I remember the coloured tissues. One Christmas my husband made angels using the cardboard roll covered with the tissues and plastic golf balls for the heads.
When I was young there was no choice but the Izal “greaseproof like” paper.
I was once given a toilet roll printed with crosswords.
I have noticed that the Sainsburys paper is thinner now.

I don't cringe at the thought of my coloured toilet paper. Apart from eco thoughts, I see nothing wrong with it. I use the Aloe stuff now. I have always had problems with what I use down below and toilet paper is one of those triggers. The Aloe stuff is soothing for that and those occasions when the IBS is giving me a hard time...or not!

I always have M& patterned in the downstairs loo. I used to love the pink flowered one.
Upstairs we use Cushelle which doesn’t use cardboard so nothing to get rid or at the end. It keeps it shape well and lasts longer.

We still have an Avocado lavatory and sink downstairs. I hate it…always looks dirty. Costs too much to replace I’m afraid.

Don’t worry, it will doubtless be back in fashion soon!

Google 'toilet roll cover', there are plenty of dolly covers still around. Some have beautiful lacy dresses like Cinderella.

I had completely forgotten about coloured lavatory paper. I can remember many years ago going on holiday with my lovely late husband, his best friend and the chap's girlfriend. We had absolutely nothing in common with the lady and two weeks in a remote gite in rural France were probably her idea of hell. On the way there we stopped at a supermarket to stock up on basics and she filled the trolley with expensive stuff (she had taken absolutely no money on holiday with her!) and insisted we got some expensive loo roll. Well, turned out the loo roll was scented and gave her a terrible rash (we were fine!) Mean to laugh but wouldn't have minded if she had actually contributed to the bill.
