Have had my lounge carpet &stairs/small landing for quite a few years- have wanted new carpet for last couple of years but the thought of having to move furniture around and physically moving stuff has put me off have procrastinated long enough so now today made a decision and looked at samples and going with a quote … now I’m extremely excited.. Excitement for me used to be planning holiday/going away or looking for new/replace old car… anyone else experienced this form of excitement over a carpet?😊

It’s lovely getting things done in the house. The hall, stairs and landing is particularly good as you see them every time you go from one room to another. I had mine done a year or so ago and I still smile when I see them, specially when I get up in the morning.

What colour have you gone for? Is it very different from the carpet that’s there now?

Some decisions are difficult. Well done you!

I love the smell of new carpet. I can imagine it right now.
And remember it.
Our first ever fitted carpet in 1974 when we got married was called ‘Cathedral Jasmine’. I can still recall the design and colours. Gulp. 50 years ago now.
Blimey.
Oh the smell of it …. and surveying it with so much pleasure.
(I was 20y)
And the price! 🤣

Not over a carpet, but over a sewing-machine that was being delivered. I could hardly sleep the previous night. And I can’t even sew 😂- I sold the machine within a year …

I know that carpet Urms - it would probably still be going strong had you kept it.

Absolutely, Bea65! Nothing beats feeling a new carpet cuddling 'round your toessmile

We had new carpet on the stairs, hall and landing just before Easter, the old one had been down for years. It's a lovely terracotta colour and with Ivory Lace painted walls and white paintwork we are so pleased. It took a lot of organising with choosing the carpet, the fitting and removal of the old, finding a reliable decorator, then of course the cost of it all! I can understand your pleasure and excitement.

We had a new bedroom carpet (and a new bed) not long ago.
It's such a pleasure to walk across in bare feet. Although the old carpet wasn't really worn, the underlay had started to disintegrate and had gone lumpy and bumpy.

I’m exactly the same Bea. It doesn’t matter what it is, I just so look forward to seeing something new in our home. That lovely smell of new carpet is gorgeous.

Yes, Bea65 - finally replaced the 100% wool carpets in two downstairs rooms and a bedroom this last year with new 100% wool carpets.

They were about 20years old and still (remarkably) looked ok but one was starting to show wear (!) at the threshold...

We had new "quality" underlay too. Very excited.. My new carpets are beautiful. 😍

I would have liked an "Audrey" carpet by Crucial Trading really... but could neither afford nor justify it.
I've found it hard to bin the stunning sample though!
(Photos are marketing images of Audrey and the one we bought instead for our sitting room.)

Totally understand Bea. New things in the home are an everyday joy.I bought the same carpet as NotSpaghetti for my stairs and landing and it lifts my spirits when I come home.

😁yeah definitely, I love a new carpet, the look and the new carpet scent.
The moving of the furniture is a pain, but the men fitting the carpet will often help for a small fee.

I have your carpet NotSpaghetti! My very dark red hall and staircase carpet, in situ since before I bought the house, absolutely refused to wear out so I bit the bullet a couple of years ago and replaced it when I decorated. My natural inclination sent me down the neutral teal/beige/ cream route but I couldn’t get this one out of my mind and went for it. It makes me smile every time I open my front door! Particularly appreciate how the carpet fitter managed to place the purple stripe exactly at both edges of the stairs!

I can't believe there are 3 of us with the same carpet! And in the lime/red colourway too! It is SO totally stunning and gorgeous.

I just have it in the sitting room. I have another colour in the cheaper tufted version (instead of looped version) in the dining room. Chocolate/blue I think it's called. It has exactly the colors of the Minton tiles in our hallway.

Some carpet fitters are excellent. How lovely to have purple at the edges like a frame. 😍

I have yet to be able to do the stairs... 3 landings and lots of stairs (3 storey house) with turns... not sure we can stretch to more stripes as there would be a lot of waste I think...
Have bought a loop carpet in a plain colour for the bedroom.

Too many other expenses at the moment so time to think...

I hope you love your choice of carpet as much as I love ours!

Doodledog Tue 11-Jun-24 12:12:31

That striped carpet is gorgeous! I'd love something like that, but my house is old and wonky, and stripes would never line up, and would show up that the walls are not straight. We went for boring beige, with a barely there splodgy pattern so it's not so plain that it shows every mark. I like it a lot, but it doesn't make a statement like the striped ones.

NotSpaghetti Tue 11-Jun-24 13:12:45

Doodledog you would definitely notice with the wide "Audrey" stripes!

NotSpaghetti Tue 11-Jun-24 13:17:27

Our house is Victorian and not very regular but the carpet fitter lined our stripes up with the "most visible" edge. The other side is largely hidden with a bay window and a big radiator. Really it's only the two sides that are an issue. You can't tell that the ends of the stripes are out by maybe 2 inches and the room is a bit wonky.

So… changed my mind overnight as, with me using crutches/sticks around the house, the colour sample the very nice carpet man left me now has indentations on it …sent him a quick text to see if he could visit again with darker samples or, alternative flooring- thank goodness he hadn’t pre ordered 🙃 will try to attach little pic here
Does anyone have this issue of indents on carpets - am now thinking rubber/vinyl/hybrid soo many types - yikes 😟

Bea65 Wed 12-Jun-24 11:32:12

Love the stripe style- quite a statement 👌but only have small lounge - carpet man coming back on Friday 🤞will have to be 100% certain this time

mae13 Wed 12-Jun-24 11:56:33

Is it a Wilton? That's the best.

Primrose53 Wed 12-Jun-24 12:09:40

We had new lounge carpet nearly a year ago. It is wool. Can’t remember the make but the shade is called coffee and cream. We also had the best underlay. I love it. When you look at the whole carpet instead of just that bit of photo it looks lovely with two tones and a nice texture.

My daughter has very similar to the striped carpet above which looks great in her place but wouldn’t go in mine as I already have lots of colours going on.

NotSpaghetti Wed 12-Jun-24 13:25:12

Bea - would a berber/loop type be less crushable?
You could ask...
