Have had my lounge carpet &stairs/small landing for quite a few years- have wanted new carpet for last couple of years but the thought of having to move furniture around and physically moving stuff has put me off have procrastinated long enough so now today made a decision and looked at samples and going with a quote … now I’m extremely excited.. Excitement for me used to be planning holiday/going away or looking for new/replace old car… anyone else experienced this form of excitement over a carpet?😊

Yay! I'm pleased you're happy with it.

Glad the decision-making period is over and you have got your ‘graphite’ carpet. I’m sure it looks and feels beautiful. Well done 👍

How lovely Bea65
So glad you took a bit longer to decide and "got it right"!

Thank u all… it was very daunting emptying cabinets and units seeing notes from loved ones in cards and soo many photos.. a big emotional trigger but it has restarted my efforts to declutter and to be more minimal.. we collect so much over the years and we can’t take it with us… shock to the system..but am determined to not just put it all back in the many drawers that had to be emptied before moving them😊

I've often thought that carpet fitters, decorators and the like would be very popular if they offered a service to people who can't or don't want to do heavy lifting. They could charge a bit more, and would get a lot more work than the ones who refuse to help. It's such a hassle to do all of that, particularly if you don't have relatives living nearby. We had all the bedrooms decorated and carpeted around Christmas. Moving beds and wardrobes was a nightmare, and we are still in our 60s.

I'm sitting on my Ercol Studio Couch, bought at a great discount from the Ercol outlet store. I am so please I bought it. It was the couch I wanted when I moved in to ny apartment nine years ago, but thought it was too expensive. Two sofas later ( teir predecessors now in my daughters' homes) I finally have the beautiful, comfortable sofa I plays wanted. The moral is, I think, never settle for second best. By this stage of our lives many of us have worked hard, brought up children, helped out adult children, are looking after grandchildren, volunteering, and, in some cases, looking after elderley parents and relatives. We should be able to enjoy our homes.
By the way, I helped an elderly friend choose a carpet and new furnishings for this home. The carpet fitters moved all the furniture and he didn't have to do a thing. Enjoy your lovely new carpets!

Small pleasures!

Doodledog Sun 07-Jul-24 22:21:44

Small pleasures can last a long time though. I find I get used to things in the sitting room and kitchen, as I'm in there most of the time I'm at home, but new things or changes in the hallway, the bedrooms and dining room stand out more as I'm not looking at them all day. When you step out into your lovely new hallway it will be a treat each time for ages., and the same will apply to your cutlery, NotSpaghetti.

We get the bathroom done soon - something we've been working towards since January. We finally decided on a company and a design, then had to join the queue for getting it fitted, but it won't be long now. That will be the same, I think, as I tend to only go in twice a day, when I get up and when I go to bed, so I won't register it the rest of the time. Who knows though, I might get a kettle and a TV in there if they make a good job of it grin.

I hope you all enjoy your carpets, cutlery and sofas, and anything else others have bought for their homes lately. As we get older we tend to spend more time in our homes, so they may as well bring us joy.

[Doodledog] yes it’s a treat for sure…hope your new bathroom will delight …now about my kitchen 😳

Doodledog I remember your start of the bathroom revamp story, and your little paper designs. Not long to go now before it all happens. I do hope that you are delighted with the results.
We were also humming and haa-ing about changing our bath, for a walk in shower. Well, it was done and I am so pleased that it has been done. Especially as my health took a sharp downward tumble. So much easier for me now.

Thanks, both of you. Yes, I'm looking forward to it being done, but less so to it going on grin.

Start a thread about your kitchen Bea? Then we can join in vicariously.
