Weaponised incompetence

Ah - now I see what that phrase means that I've heard women use about men.

Cue for taking delivery of new bed today and the male half of the two delivering it took my vacuum cleaner and started hoovering the floor. Bash at my furniture (new/not cheap), bash again. I make comment of "I've replaced that furniture pretty recently - got rid of the original cheaper stuff I'd had and bought MINE finally". He then bashed my walls - cue for me saying "I've decorated the house throughout - I won't be doing it again". Cue for apparent total oblivion on his part was what I was saying was "Do NOT bash my furniture.....do NOT bash my walls".

Pity the poor women who are married to those doing weaponised incompetence - visions of them telling them "Don't damage my stuff" umpteen times before saying "Here I'll do your share of the housework for you....for free....so go and get lazy and watch the tv instead and I'll do your share, as well as my own".

It’s not just men. We have a younger person on work experience in our charity shop.
I asked her to Hoover the shop.
She did exactly the same as your man but my beef with her was that she was bashing the GTech AirRam that I had given to the shop.
I let my feelings be known 😡

Why was a delivery man hoovering the floor?

BlueBelle Thu 12-Dec-24 20:47:07

My question too Farzanah
How bizarre !
What a strange thread!

Why was a delivery man hoovering the floor?

Great question!

I'd be far more concerned about that!

Why was a delivery man hoovering the floor?

Ours didn't vacuum when they delivered our new bed!
Perhaps I should complain.

petra Thu 12-Dec-24 21:19:18

Why did the carpet need hoovering 🤷‍♀️

Jaxjacky Thu 12-Dec-24 21:25:23

A very bizarre anti men post against n.

Jaxjacky Thu 12-Dec-24 21:25:42

Again

Would not want anyone to vacuum I would have said I would do it. He must have asked for the vacuum.

RosiesMaw2 Thu 12-Dec-24 21:39:53

What ARE you moaning about? Or just showing off that you've got a new bed?
Another man-knocking OP no doubt expecting everybody to join in saying how useless men/delivery men/your delivery men are?
Perhaps you think this is "Groansnet"
(And what IS with all the "cues" ?)

welbeck Thu 12-Dec-24 22:01:53

OP your way of speaking sounds too elaborate to get the point across in that situation.
But anyway actions speak louder than words.
You could could have taken possession of your hoover and used it yourself.

Allira Thu 12-Dec-24 22:03:37

I'm beginning t think it is 😂

pascal30 Thu 12-Dec-24 22:14:05

why hadn't you hoovered before the bed arrived?

Realky Sat 14-Dec-24 11:42:32

Thank you, that's the term I've been looking for.
As regards the hoovering of the carpet, it's beside the point. It depends what she paid for. Would a man have said please stand aside, I'll do your job for you? It's a valid post.

wibblywobblywobblebottom Sat 14-Dec-24 11:43:42

Hoover your own floor, stop whining. Anyway, why did the delivery man hoover the floor in the first place, that sounds very odd.

I see a lot of people in hospitals and I see this time and time again. Women recovering from operations being looked after by husbands having accidents caused by carelessness by husbands like leaving the bleach bottle open!

My husband does most of the housework, not fantastically well but I don't care as I'm not doing it myself. His particular weaponised incompetence relates to cooking, for example potatoes boiled to the point of transparency, sausages grilled to black. He only reheats meals or soup which he regards as "cooking", but I enjoy cooking so am happy to swap this for housework.

When an old divan type bed is removed you should see what the carpet is like underneath😲so it does need hoovering before the new bed is brought in, but have never had the delivery men offer to do it.
Are you maybe either really old or disabled OP so they were helping you out?

Belleringer Sat 14-Dec-24 11:54:55

If there was a new bed being delivered presumably the delivery men were removing the old one. I couldn’t move our bed to hoover underneath it, so if I was having a new one the carpet would definitely need hoovering once the old one had gone, it would be very dusty under there.

Well, at least he’s trying 🤭

Knittypamela Sat 14-Dec-24 12:07:14

When we had our old bed taken away there was years of dust underneath. I started hoovering while the delivery men stood waiting with the new bed. They lost patience and took the hoover off me and did the job quicker than I could!

Caleo Sat 14-Dec-24 12:12:10

Safe to say most of us are housewives with years of experience. It's hard to relinquish our competent work to others less competent.

srn63 Sat 14-Dec-24 12:20:50

I would have just told him to be careful and don't knock the walls and furniture. I don't think I would have known what the OP was talking about.

No, she’s a woman that doesn’t like men. 😂 as she frequently tells us.
