Window cleaning

We need our inside windows cleaned as we can no longer manage them. We have an external window cleaning company that comes every two months but they do not do insides. We live in a four bed detached house with about sixteen windows ranging from quite tiny to patio doors. My current company charges £23 which I know is quite cheap but I have been quoted £140 by another company for the interior windows. Can GN’s give me some idea of what they pay for such a service?
Many thanks

Have you thought about asking a normal house cleaner if they would consider a one off and come in just to clean your windows. Perhaps a cleaner known to friends or family.

It was a house cleaning company that gave me the quote. I have tried numerous window cleaning companies too and none of them clean internal windows. This was the only quote I have received.

I do our windows inside and pay for exteriors. If I ever can't do inside windows I'd pay a GC - perhaps pocket money is an answer?

We have revolving windows, so the outside comes in . Excellent for cleaning .

Sadgrandma Thu 24-Apr-25 14:27:09

Sadly we don’t have revolving windows and GC is only seven, don’t think she’d do a very good job!
Just really wanted to get an idea of what other people have paid as I think the quote I have been given is far too high.

My window cleaner comes round once a month . £9 for outside and £20 if we want the insides doing as well. Have you looked on your local page for a reputable window cleaner. Tbf Sean has been cleaning the windows around here for a number of years.

I’m in a 3 bed bungalow but with 2 conservatories. I pay £20 for outsides and he has quoted £50 for insides as can’t use special hose thingy they use on outside so takes longer

😂😂😂
She might have a good go, though!

The window cleaner is here at the moment but he uses a water system so it would probably drench indoors if I asked him to do the insides of the windows.

Yes, I'd ask a local cleaner if they could come just to do the insides of the windows. Some firms will do

Allira Thu 24-Apr-25 16:22:47

Some firms will do a one-off clean

JamesandJohn we had revolving windows in our house in Holland. Brilliant. I’ve never seen them here. I have two window which my window cleaner can’t reach and I have to perform contortions to clean the outsides from the inside! I pay £8 once a month for the six windows he can reach, the fifteen pains in the conservatory, and the door glass.

Does your window cleaner know anyone who does insides I wonder?

Woukd an "ordinary" cleaner do it? My mother-in-law has a cleaner who does windows as part of ger weekly cleaning.
I don't know if she focuses on windows every so often or does (say) one or two rooms each time she visits.

mabon1 Thu 24-Apr-25 16:32:34

Your cleaner will do it if you ask her and pay her I bet.

I've had a quick look on window-cleaning forums.
Most don't like inside windows.
Most charge double the outside charge as they are more difficult.

This is what one person said:

(Double is)... my rule of thumb - but I reckon they take more like 3 or 4 times as the insides rarely (once every few years) get done so most of the mess is 'baked on' and fairly even spread around the window. Plus you're using different tools which are slower and you have to take much more care, which slows you down. Plus you have nowhere to 'hide' (doing both sides of he glass) so can get a little 'perfectionist' about it which takes far longer - So x2 min (if it's an existing custy and don't want them straying to a rival , x3 if not keen on the work, x4 if I don't want the work but they are a custy) I always explain the pricing rationale so the custy can understand why it's not the same as the outside - as it's not the same 'job'

But think we all agree insides are not 'enjoyable'

Yes I agree with Tabitha, private cleaner in just to clean the windows- maybe other stuff down the line.

My grandma used to clean her windows every Friday, hail rain or shine. But once she was no longer able I took over the task as she struggled to find anyone willing to do the windows herself were the old sash windows. A local woman who did light house work declined to do and as both my mum and her sister had passed away there was no one able to do them. Would you children not be willing to help out

Thank you to those of you who have given me some idea of costs, some of you are very lucky to pay so little!I expected internal windows to cost more than external ones but £140 as opposed to £32 for external cleaning does seem extreme. I would have thought £60 perhaps. As for your suggestions as to where to find one. My current window cleaner won’t do insides and he doesn’t know anyone who will. My neighbours all use the same company as me. I have contacted several window cleaners and house cleaners from adverts in local magazines and newspapers and they either don’t do it or don’t come back to me.
Maboni - I don’t have a cleaner.
As it stands I guess DH and I will have to try and do them ourselves.
Thank you all for your ideas.

I only have one daughter and she has an extremely demanding and stressful job, as well as a young daughter so I wouldn’t dream of asking her.

For DIY. I purchase squeegee from Amazon.

I was cleaning my windows today. I bought a Karcher Window Vax a while ago, so I do them in stages.
Quick to do them with one of these, so it might be worth thinking about one of these?

Sillymoo Thu 24-Apr-25 20:29:39

We just got a Karcher window vac too. Very impressed so far. I don't like having to stand on anything though to reach.

Sadgrandma Thu 24-Apr-25 22:15:14

I have a Karcher which I usually use but we can’t reach up or climb at the moment due to some health issues, which is why I am trying to find a window cleaner to do a one off clean. Hopefully we’ll will be able to clean our own in the future.

pably15 Thu 24-Apr-25 22:32:30

I have a window cleaner who does the outside every couple of months, I have 10 windows,,,he charges £6...I can still manage the insides myself, but if I couldn't,I'd try to find someone local

Allira Thu 24-Apr-25 22:33:09

Cold tea, without milk of course, is better for cleaning windows without smears than anything, including vinegar.
