Downsizing - people’s experience of moving from a house to bungalow

We’ve found a bungalow that we both think will be perfect (we’re downsizing).
Currently we live in a large 4 bedroom detached house, the bungalow is 3 bedrooms but with smaller rooms, and it ticks many of our boxes as we get older: great bus service, local shop and doctors close by and lovely walks (we have a dog).
We’ve always lived in houses and didn’t think we wanted a bungalow but have surprised ourselves to find how much we really like this bungalow. However we’re wondering how we’ll find changing from living in a house to a bungalow, also we sleep with our bedroom windows open at night. Does anyone on grans net have similar experience of moving from a large house to a bungalow? Also are there any suggestions for sleeping with windows open at night? Many thanks.

We went from a 3 bed semi to a 2 bed bungalow 8 years ago , it was done because of necessity , but we have both said it is one of the best things we have done, the only thing I could do with is a bit of extra storage but it has made me de-clutter on a regular basis. Which I think is a good thing as we get older , do we really need lots of stuff which will be thrown out anyway once we are gone.

We actually moved from a bungalow to a house. But I prefer the bungalow as it had a wider footprint hence a wider garden. As it was surrounded by other bungalows we were not overlooked. If we move again it will be to a bungalow I hope.

I live in a house but sleep downstairs. There are windows on 3 sides of my bedroom which can be locked at about 6” open. They proved to be burglar proof, but it was frightening being awoken by someone trying to get in the bedroom. There is now a thick layer of shingle on the path and I still sleep with the windows open.

We moved to a bungalow 2.5 years ago, and can’t recommend it enough. It’s practical and easy to manage. The windows can be left on a security setting to let in cool air and there are also trickle vents.
We moved from a large 3 bed semi which took a long time to declutter. We do miss the storage in the old house but there are ways round that. The summerhouse and garage are very useful for certain things…;-)
Good luck!

My house should have been sold ages ago, it's too big for me. I am putting it on the market in the next two weeks, unfortunately it coincides with new neighbours doing work on an extension. I think this will adversely affect my price, the mess is awful. This now affects the amount I need to buy another home. However I have to do it as in a few years time I will be in trouble if I dont I love my home and garden but been here for a long time and dont want to see it deteriorate because I can't manage it. Dread the estate agent business and solicitors though and finding a new place.

Regarding ground floor flat and bungalow window security, there are restrictor locks you can buy that means the window has to be closed from the inside, and unlatched before it can be fully opened
