Ants in the house

Can anyone advise how to get rid of ants in the house? I can't locate where their entry point is. I've tried putting down ant powder but still they come. I'm worried that when I get back from holiday the house will be overtaken by ants!

I wipe surfaces down with white vinegar, and wash the floor with vinegar in the water. It has always got rid of the ants for me.

Since the ant powder has not stopped them and you cannot find the entry point, it may help to watch for a trail at a quiet time and seal small gaps around pipes, skirting boards and door frames before you go away. Clearing crumbs and wiping surfaces can also make the kitchen less inviting while you are away.
