Ants in the house

Can anyone advise how to get rid of ants in the house? I can't locate where their entry point is. I've tried putting down ant powder but still they come. I'm worried that when I get back from holiday the house will be overtaken by ants!

I wipe surfaces down with white vinegar, and wash the floor with vinegar in the water. It has always got rid of the ants for me.
