DD1 and her DH emptied my loft a couple of months ago. I started straight away sorting out and I’m ruthless once I get going! We’d bought a flat for DH when he worked away, then when he retired, he brought lots of pictures from his flat and his office home with him. They’d spent 20 years up in the loft, so they were immediately marked to go. Next, my huge collection of Cherished Teddies that no-one (including me) wanted - straight on the go pile.
Charity shops near me have very difficult access and one in particular is extremely picky on what they will accept. In addition I have a very small car that wouldn’t fit a 4ft pine headboard! A friend used to work with a lady who does car boot sales and she is more than happy to come and take away anything to try and sell. She is worth her weight in gold and has humped away a massive amount of stuff each time, including books and linens. Now, I’m down to just a few things, including a 6ft Christmas tree and numerous decorations which my friend’s son says he’ll have for his classroom and I’ve bought better boxes from must have ideas to store the bits and bobs I want to keep. I’ve asked the DDs if they want to take their things home and that’s generally been a ‘no’ bar a few exceptions, so lots of their stuff has gone in the bin/to the tip.
Hopefully I’ll be able to get my car back in the garage in the next couple of weeks.
