We have already bought our oil and logs, so it would be nice to get a bit of help soon!

Not had mine yet.
Mine will be taken care of by my 2 daughters and granddaughters at christmas.
I will probably live on my occupational pension when it comes and my state pension will be saved for my granddaughters.

Not heard anything about mine yet (my initial is P).

Found this on MoneySavingsExpert website:

It's not done alphabetically. It's done primarily by NI number and length of time you have been receiving the WFA.

merlot does your surname start at the beginning of the alphabet ? I must go and check whats been paid in sometimes as long as the balance seems ok I don't bother checking and I should really.

We're and R, glamma and my mother is an L. They were both paid in this morning. Doesn't sound like it's done alphabetically though. I expect they'll all be paid soon.

Ella46 Tue 13-Nov-12 18:06:21

I now live with dad who is late 80's. I have had fuel allowance for five years so far but at different address in different town. I haven't a clue if I get it separately, not at all or what. Mum is in residential home. Will have to check on this, been such a busy year, I never gave it a thought! But £200 would certainly help heat this rather large, rather draughty old place.

When I worked in the DHSS it used to go on the letter at the end of your NI number. That determined which day of the week you got your benefits.
However, that was nearly 50 years ago, pre-computerisation.

Going on from here, and the talk of the cost of heating etc., I found that over a period of time we had overpaid by direct debit to the tune of £120.,. I was told this could not be repaid so our direct debit was cancelled and we had a couple of months without paying anything to the company we are with. With all the changes that are going on we decided to stay with what we knew, but were told that in future we were going to be charged £15., more than were paying, - our previous bills had been increased which resulted in the over-payment. I asked that this be reduced and this has happened. I am now taking monthly readings and checking just how much we are spending on heating, etc., so that I know month by month whether or not we are keeping up with things. We are still waiting to see if we get our fuel allowance, both in our eighties so hope so, new false teeth wanted here too, together with a new mattress!

its a -z in fuel allowance

HUNTERF Mon 26-Nov-12 20:40:33

I think pensioners with larger houses should get a higher fuel allowance.

Hunterf WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

marrbarr1 Mon 26-Nov-12 20:48:39

Hi I am new to the Forum. Can anyone tell me when you are entitled to get the fuel allowance. Can you get it if you still work? Thankyou.

Ana Mon 26-Nov-12 20:51:21

You are entitled to it when you reach pension age, which will of course vary. It doesn't matter whether you're working or not, marrbarr1.

HUNTERF Mon 26-Nov-12 20:55:01

Flowerfriend

Larger houses cost more to heat so pensioners which occupy these houses should get a higher winter fuel allowance.

kittylester Mon 26-Nov-12 21:01:13

Blimey Hunter you'd best duck!! grin

marrbarr1 Mon 26-Nov-12 21:03:52

Thankyou for the information Ana. I was rather hoping that you might be eligible for it when you reached the age of 60! Nevermind. Thanks again.

merlotgran Mon 26-Nov-12 21:06:37

I've often thought a hippy style commune would suit OAPs. All those combined skills, sense of community and now pooled WFA to keep the crumbling old house warm......Perfick!! grin
