What will happen to my pension when I die?!

..not that I'm hoping too soon! I am in a relationship and if that leads to marriage in, say, a year, what happens if I die first? Would my DH continue to receive any payment?

I have looked on pensions website and references all seem to relate to marriage before 26 Apr 2016 which obviously will not apply.

The rules will probably have changed anyway, but what would happen under the current rules?

Sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find it..

" Widows pension " I was 59 when dh died nearly 3 yrs ago,(not due my pension until I'm 66/7)

I received "Bereavement allowance" (£111.00) a week for 12 months.

Exactly to the day 12 month later I was put on Job seekers £73.20) per week...so no widows pension dh had state pension and bit of pension credit that stopped at midnight the day he died.

I believe they are changing the Bereavement allowance again.

Thanks all, not being greedy, just DP has only v small pension through no fault of his own, and I would have liked to feel he would receive something if I die first - not going to be much to leave in my will. Oh well. Thanks very much to all who have responded smile

I am glad you said it is not quite as simple Rigby as I know my mother got an increase in her state pension when my father died.

angel Are you and DP in receipt of state pensions now? If not, when will you be? What is your NI record like? Have you paid full contributions all your working life?

Hi Rigby, my pension is deferred at present - don't have a full contribution record because I worked abroad for a while. DP is receiving pension (6000 pa)

It would die with you, like your buss pass etc. Or they would be paying out for ever more.

Not true Luckylegs a widow/widower can inherit a percentage of the SERPS/Additional State Pension element of the State Pension.

Yes, I found that my State pension (which was not at the full rate) went up by about £100 a month when my husband died, as his contributions gave me some extra entitlement.
