How much do you spend on clothes in a year?

About £200 a year I think. But about half of that is on trainers as I do a lot of walking, gym etc.

I can't see the point of buying loads of new clothes - I am fairly sure people have more than enough in their wardrobes.

Someone asked about a capsule wardrobe on another thread, and it's been mentioned on this one. For anyone who's interested, Pinterest has examples of both summer and Winter capsule wardrobes...

I'd be surprised if I spend more than about £50 a year. Why replace clothes that are still wearable?

Pp mentioned the cost of a good wool coat. I got a beauty, Jaeger grey fine wool classic style in TKMaxx for £39.
I buy M & S knickers on line, overstock, the label is snipped, 4 for £5.
Just got a pair of Clark's black leather sandals on eBay for £7. Perfect for my holiday next month to Malta, first holiday in 3 years.
Also on eBay got 3 pairs different colours M &S linen peg leg trousers for £15. Again for holiday.
Never ever pay full price.

BHS , now long gone, undies were rubbish.
I bought two packs of knickers with a gift voucher and within a couple of months they were relegated to the duster drawer.
I only buy when I need to replace something, I did do an impulse buy a couple of weeks ago, egged on by the friend I was shopping with.
It was a jacket/ blazer style, tweed, from M&S. £79 , it will go back as soon as I can get there, I cannot see that it will be long wearing, it will be remembered every time I wear it.
I like anonymous clothing I can wear for years.

When we have been out Mr B has often mentioned the fact that may people or wearing back leather trousers. I call them bin bags, but he has now suggested I at least try a pair on. Yes I am slim enough to wear them but at nearly 72 I don't think its my thing. Anyone else go a pair . Or is it Mr B just being fanciful.

I am not sure about leather (on me) but at 76 but still with long slim legs I have no qualms at all about wearing leggings or skinny jeans and without feeling the need for a top that comes half way down my thighs.

On the subject of good wool coats. I couldn't find what I wanted in the shops. Went on ebay and bought an as good as new Jacques Vert coat for £50 (rrp in excess of £200).

I do not know how much I spend on clothes, but I think it varies a lot from year to year. I have relatively few clothes, wear them a lot and wear them out and replace them. DDiL considers that I am stylish and an asset and good for her street cred when collecting the children from school.

I have a pair of tapered leg black faux leather trousers, size 16 from M&Co which were about £30.
Had them 3 years and worn about 6 times.
Comfy and a proper fit, neither tight nor loose. I wore/wear with silk shirts or, in cooler weather, with classy jumpers.
They're not at all 'sweaty', as real leather is.
I'm 74, 5-6 and wear with heels or pristine trainers.

So msny women with 'awkward' feet.
What exactly does that mean?

In my case feet I trip over with ankles that 'give'. Went flat on my face on the station forecourt yesterday when I tripped over my feet.Thankfully there was only one other person around so I was able to quickly get back on my feet and go on my way with a minimum of fuss. I was wearing trainers so I had on sensible shoes, well white with silver trim and a bit of sparkle, but essentially sensible.

I buy LOTS of clothes, but nothing very expensive. I buy things from Simply Be, Asda, and Yours Clothing. I probably spend £60 a month or thereabouts.

I bet you bought the last decent coat in TKMax so when I go there will be the usual staggeringly awful selection.

I hardly spend anything mainly because I can't afford it and secondly because I despise shopping. Hubby's always saying is that new and I tell him no it's been in the wardrobe for about five years

Even if it was meant to be cruel, it wouldn't ruffle my feathers as I'm as far removed as it's possible to get from the way 'Dorian' looked, dressed, sounded and behaved.

I fear it might be the “pleather” or what we used to call plastic trousers, GabriellaG especially with heels or the “pristine” (aka”box fresh”) trainers.

I favour a nice patterned fleece with my favourite horses all over it.

I have some nice trews with a St Michael label on them I found in the back of the cupboard.

A pair of those crocodile shoes thingies in summer and a nice beige shoe with velcro in winter.

I think it was the comedian John Bishop (love him) who said his sons had told him ‘aw dad, never buy yer clothes from the same place they’re selling sprouts!’.
