DWP announcement for PIP review claimants:
Owing to considerable delays with new Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims, the DWP has announced it is making an extension to existing PIP awards approaching their end of award date.

“From 6th September we will automatically be extending existing claims awaiting review by up to 12 months and will do this 35 days before their end date.

“The longer extension provides greater certainty for claimants and in particular help with continuing to access other support for example a blue badge.

“At present, awards awaiting review have a 3 month extension, repeated as needed, 28 days before their end date and people can request a letter confirming this and stating their continuing entitlement.

The DWP then adds: “From 31 October, a letter will be sent automatically to claimants confirming continuing entitlement for up to 12 months. Until then, we will continue to update claimants by text message that their award reviews have been extended. Anyone needing a statement before 31 October can contact the helpline 0800 1214433 and we will issue a statement. Otherwise, claimants do not need to contact us unless their circumstances change.

“In line with our usual process, we may review claims before their new end date and if so will write to claimants to inform them. PIP payments will be received as normal until we complete the review of a claim.

Hope this helps anyone in this position or helping relatives who are.

I have just been supporting a man who in 2020 was awarded PIP on appeal to Tribunal, yet has received a review form to complete. What a colossal waste of money, time, and so stress- inducing. The system needs an overhaul.

Yellowcanary people may not be able to work full time due tonillness/incapacity but can manage some work.
SU22 doesnt know the exact circumstances.
There will always be those who work the system.

My daughter has long covid and hasn't worked (nurse) for almost 2 years. She filled in all the forms for pip but was refused. It makes me mad when I see people claiming it, that definitely shouldn't be.

Is she appealing the decision?

It is sickening when some people are perhaps milking the system, but all the more reason to appeal your own case, I think.

PIP questionnaire doesn't allow for certain illnesses. Also assessors have actually been known to lie about what they have been told by claimants.
The system stinks.

My very ill brother had to go to tribunal. My sister appeared for him as he was too ill. He died a short time after.

If you are claiming, don't do it without help from someone like CAB, or Disability Action.

Good news for the genuine claimants but I know of two people that claim it and no way they should get it, one of them hasn't worked for years due to a bad back but manages to do cash-in-hand building jobs and another manages to do various cash-in-hand cleaning jobs. angry

SU22 didn't say anything about properly employed people claiming PIP, she was saying about people who don't work claiming benefits for supposedly NOT being able to work due to ill-health getting PIP then doing cash in hand work.

At least that is the way I am reading it.

PIP isn't an unemployment benefit. I know somebody who is very severely disabled and needs somebody to help him dress and was, etc but has a wheelchair and is able to work.

I worked full time for a while. I couldn't have managed without help.

Does this mean that all of us who have already completed our review form are reprieved for another year? I had to fill out my review form in April. The letter said in no uncertain terms that it had to be returned by a certain date and what would happen if I didn't. I duly sent my form off by the due date and haven't even received an acknowledge. I have been in limbo ever since. I feel sick each day until the postman has been just in case that's the day I find they have decided that I've recovered from an illness that I won't recover from. The stress of a PIP review is overwhelming.

I have been following a group who deal with PIP and other benefits. What those who have been re-assessed recently have said is that you still need to complete the form in the same period you would have done. It seems the extra time is so they can complete, and you will carry on with what you were getting until they do. They are basically allowing themselves the 12 months.

This is just from reading what has been happening to people so please don't think it's gospel. Having said that, I think you will be in the least jeopardy of losing anything if you work on that basis.

Please get her to appeal using one of the Charities who deal with this sort of thing to help her get the maximum points. If that doesn't work, go to tribunal. The majority of cases that go to a tribunal are awarded PIP.

the fraud rate for DLA before PIP was introduced was less than 0.5% I imagine it is still the same. They require so much information and back up from specialists, how could it be made up etc? It is ludicrous a private company has been wasting so much money for so long

PIP was the overhaul hmm
something must have been lost in translation somewhere

All of the staff I dealt with at the dwp told me that the sole intention is to get "people" off benefits and out to work these days.

I know pip is separate, but, it's probably the same agenda behind it.
