DWP announcement for PIP review claimants:
Owing to considerable delays with new Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims, the DWP has announced it is making an extension to existing PIP awards approaching their end of award date.

“From 6th September we will automatically be extending existing claims awaiting review by up to 12 months and will do this 35 days before their end date.

“The longer extension provides greater certainty for claimants and in particular help with continuing to access other support for example a blue badge.

“At present, awards awaiting review have a 3 month extension, repeated as needed, 28 days before their end date and people can request a letter confirming this and stating their continuing entitlement.

The DWP then adds: “From 31 October, a letter will be sent automatically to claimants confirming continuing entitlement for up to 12 months. Until then, we will continue to update claimants by text message that their award reviews have been extended. Anyone needing a statement before 31 October can contact the helpline 0800 1214433 and we will issue a statement. Otherwise, claimants do not need to contact us unless their circumstances change.

“In line with our usual process, we may review claims before their new end date and if so will write to claimants to inform them. PIP payments will be received as normal until we complete the review of a claim.

Hope this helps anyone in this position or helping relatives who are.

This will be good news for many.
The process can be very stressful.

Nanatoone Tue 13-Sept-22 15:01:28

What a relief for people, this process is painful. We had to go through it a few times with my husband who had terminal cancer and a DS1500 (considered less than 12 months to live). Huge form to fill in and phone interview! Why, oh why?

DaisyAnne Tue 13-Sept-22 15:45:22

Sadly, I don't think this was done out of the kindness of feeling for those applying but because they are so far behind.

It was outsourced to Capita so I assume it still is. I hope they are being fined.

Su22 Tue 13-Sept-22 16:29:52

Good news for the genuine claimants but I know of two people that claim it and no way they should get it, one of them hasn't worked for years due to a bad back but manages to do cash-in-hand building jobs and another manages to do various cash-in-hand cleaning jobs. angry

nadateturbe Tue 13-Sept-22 16:50:33

There are always a minority of people who will "play the system".
But it's not a reason to make it overly difficult and complicated for genuine claimants.
At least with this extension, some will be relieved of the stress for a while.

If you are going to make remarks like that Su22 there is nothing anyone on here can do. You ought to report them.

Cabbie21 Tue 13-Sept-22 20:56:22

Su22 being employed is not a barrier to PIP.

boheminan Tue 13-Sept-22 23:15:06

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask...but has anyone here heard of Human Health Service (HHS) which seems to be based in America and seems similar to our DWP but covers this country too. An American friend of mine is trying to persuade me to look into it. I've not heard of it before, so feel a tad suspicious...

DaisyAnne Wed 14-Sept-22 08:48:08

I don't think this is the best place to ask boheminan. I would start a thread under "Chat" if I wanted information on that.

This is a thread about a specific benefit and best left to just that topic, in my opinion.

Su22 being employed is not a barrier to PIP.

Sorry, I should have said that.

I worked in the civil service whilst claiming.
Many allowances were made .

Does this mean that all of us who have already completed our review form are reprieved for another year? I had to fill out my review form in April. The letter said in no uncertain terms that it had to be returned by a certain date and what would happen if I didn't. I duly sent my form off by the due date and haven't even received an acknowledge. I have been in limbo ever since. I feel sick each day until the postman has been just in case that's the day I find they have decided that I've recovered from an illness that I won't recover from. The stress of a PIP review is overwhelming.

The DWP is a government department Boheminan. I very much doubt an American company will bear any similarity.

nadateturbe Wed 14-Sept-22 15:46:02

I'm not sure it does vampirequeen.
I do sympathise. Its extremely stressful. I stopped claiming. I just asked for the Blue Badge.
I think you need to contact the department.
Good luck.

DaisyAnne Wed 14-Sept-22 15:47:32

There are more details about contacting people if you click on the link in my OP vampirequeen. They may clarify the process.

icanhandthemback Wed 14-Sept-22 15:53:19

How odd. My daughter had to go to Tribunal to have her PIP returned to her which was a long, stressful process which took nearly 12 months. Until they did she was without transport so housebound and although she had the return of her deposit, the extras she'd paid for in adaptations, she lost. They awarded the PIP back from the date she had appealed and it was for three years. Now, a year after she got it awarded back, she has been sent another renewal form. They have always done this and it means that her PIP has only ever lasted for just over 2 years rather than the 3 she is awarded each time. It is really stressful and, as anxiety is high on her list of problems, really unhelpful.

boheminan Wed 14-Sept-22 16:36:25

Sorry, I used the wrong thread. I've found out the HHS thing's a scam.

vampirequeen Wed 14-Sept-22 20:49:11

I read the link but I'm still not sure whether I'm going to be left alone for another year or they're just torturing me for the hell of it.

DaisyAnne Wed 14-Sept-22 21:08:01

I'll keep looking and see if I can find out how the charities, etc., have interpreted the announcement, vampirequeen

It is a poor system targeting the vulnerable. I hate it.

nadateturbe Thu 15-Sept-22 10:56:15

It was designed to cut payments. Different questions to former DLA system.

What I don't understand is how you can have a congenital condition which is never going to get any better but they will still withdraw PIP. My daughter has got to the end of her treatment path but still suffers. She has been told there is not much else they can do but her lack of treatment allows her to be targeted for removal. The system absolutely stinks.
It isn't only her that is going through this either. There are loads of people with the same problems who are picked upon.

MissAdventure Thu 15-Sept-22 13:05:51

It's anxiety inducing just to read this, and I have only just claimed pip.

I'm not even an anxious person, ordinarily.

I really feel for people whose main issues are with their mental health who have to go through this.

SU22 didn't say anything about properly employed people claiming PIP, she was saying about people who don't work claiming benefits for supposedly NOT being able to work due to ill-health getting PIP then doing cash in hand work.

At least that is the way I am reading it.

Cabbie21 Thu 15-Sept-22 13:30:17

I guess there are people who find loopholes or deliberately make fraudulent claims, especially those who receive cash in hand, so no trace for DWP/ HMRC , but it is estimated that fraud accounts for a tiny fraction, compared with genuine claimants who are turned down.
I made a point above about Employment not being a barrier for PIP just to clarify, though if what you do contradicts your reasons for claiming PIP, it will be questioned.
