Rayner Will Not Rule Out Abolishing Council Tax Single Occupier Discount

Maybe the current Labour administration should go the whole hog and simply abolish anyone age 66+.
Grabbing back the Winter Fuel Allowance, Personal Tax Allowance fixed until 2008 leading to many more pensioners facing Income Tax bills, and now they've got the Council Tax 25% discount for single occupancy households in their sights.

Same old, same old but much, much worse.

Thanks a lot Sir Keir.......

Reported in The Guardian MissA.
Sorry, I can’t do links, but a quick google search will bring it up for you. The Telegraph and Daily Mail also reported it too.
The Guardian tells us of the many other freebies Starmer has received, including free Taylor Swift tickets for her London concert, worth £4000 according to The Guardian.
My ten year old granddaughter would love to see Taylor Swift in concert, but she doesn’t have a famous family to get her free tickets!

Thanks, Maddy.

I think all pms get gifts and perks, so Starmer is neither the first or the worst.

I'll go and find that guardian article.

Presumably Maybee, you believe Starmer to be competent.

Presumably you believed Johnson to be competent?

Every report says different, apart from all saying starmer has had the most donations and gifts, since before he even became pm.
Adele concert in nne report, the gasses range from one pair to multiple, at a cost of 2000 odd pounds. Which doesn't seem bad to me.
20 football matches comes up frequently, but I couldn't find T Swift.

It's probably my checking, so take it with a pinch of salt.

^Obviously you have every right to do that, but all the 🤣🤣🤣 and so on are not really conducive to a debate - it feels more like a playground tussle.^

I think that every time I read yet more posts defending LP or Starmer.

Especially when they’re defending actions that Starmer condemned when the Conservatives were going to do it.

Why? I don't use sniggering smileys or ask obviously rhetorical questions. I try to stick to the topic without making personal comments either to posters or about politicians.

I don't necessarily defend KS either - I just believe that he should be given time, and I absolutely don't criticise him for things he may or may not be going to do. I have criticised the way the WFP was handled. Not that it was cut for everyone, but that it was removed from people who are clearly going to struggle without it. We don't know whether the single person discount will be removed yet, so I'm not going to criticise him for that - why would anyone? IF it happens, I will listen to why, and decide then what to think.

Just look on the Register of interests it makes very interesting reading and cuts out the middle man/media! Our Nige is pretty nifty at getting donations. I love this one:
Estimate of the probable value (or amount of any donation): Flights and accommodation for me and one staffer, value £32,836
Destination of visit: United States
Dates of visit: 17 July 2024 to 19 July 2024
Purpose of visit: To support a friend who was almost killed and to represent Clacton on the world stage.
I'm not sure he actually say Trump but at least Clacton was represented on the world stage! Good one Nigel at least you didn't waste your own money.

He doesn’t have a class act to follow, does he 🤷‍♀️

I really and truly wish that Brexit, Covid, and Ukraine had happened under a Labour government. I would have loved to have seen just how they would have have handled all these situations. Starmer wanted us locked down for longer; I wonder how that would have affected the economy.
To be honest, anyone who thinks it would have been much different either doesn’t understand or is living in Cloud Cuckoo Land. Covid in particular, has caused economic problems in virtually every country in the world, but of course, it’s all the fault of the government.

So do I.

I thought we had Truss and Sunak in between?

If you bothered to read the whole thread the original comment referred back to the pandemic over which, if my memory serves me correctly, was presided over by Johnson.

I expect I read it and forgot it.
Too much multi-tasking.
