We added ‘emergency’ boiler cover to our house insurance as we thought call-outs and repairs would be carried out quickly. How wrong were we? Nearly 2 weeks after we reported our boiler breaking down, we are still waiting for a repair.
My warning to you is, before taking out this cover, find out how it works and where the heating engineer comes from. In our case, we reported the problem to our insurance company, they then contact an underwriter who contact a heating company who then employ a subcontractor. The subcontractor drives an hour and a half to get to us from another county. He can’t find anything wrong with the boiler, and because of his long drive, he rushes off. After three visits he has ordered a part that may or may not work, he admits he’s now guessing! He won’t hang around to find out if it does work because he has to get back to his own clients that pay him more. We have escalated this to all three companies, put in complaints and threatened to give them the large electricity bill we have incurred heating just one room. All of them agree it’s not ideal but it will take up to 8 weeks to investigate! The final insult is that he is due to come tomorrow anytime between 8am and 6pm, and no we can’t have the first call of the day as the intermediary heating company can’t dictate to their sub contractors.
If we had employed our own engineer this would have been fixed within a few days.
Think carefully before taking out this kind of insurance and ask questions beforehand.
By special request, let’s discuss our favourite Classic Music and why?
