hello, are there any other local GNs out there?

annegr Mon 24-Jun-13 06:31:45

Hello Matson,I hope you didn't go for walk yesterday,it was horrendous. My friend is going to try to come with me this morning.I think she feels she might go mental if she stays in and waits for appt. with consultant.
There are 2 buses down Kirkleatham Lane just after 9.30 so I'm calling for her at 9.20.
I have read Jen's letter and feel I've been there and got the T shirt. I wish I had had someone to talk to when I felt things falling in on me but you think it's your duty to go on, don't you?
See you soon.

matson Mon 24-Jun-13 18:49:10

Hello annegr, was lovely to meet you both, and well said in the evening gazettesmile.

annegr Tue 25-Jun-13 07:23:43

Good morning, Thank you for reply.I enjoyed our meeting very much. It's a nice stress-free way of socialising. My friend enjoyed herself and it helped her get through another day.
Sometimes, I do get a bee in my bonnet over social issues and I have written before to the Gazette. It gets it out of my system but probably doesn't alter the situation.
I'm going to try Smileys in a minute.Wait for it.
Also my daughter in law has offered to take lawn mower to "doctor" by herself and bring it back repaired.I'm so grateful.
Here goes with the Smiley(grin)

annegr Tue 25-Jun-13 07:25:54

No, I made a mistake. Silly me. It said SQUARE brackets.
grin

Good morning,

What a lovely positive post to wake up to!

So pleased you all enjoyed the meet-up, I was pretty blown away the first time I went to one. What do you think made it so enjoyable?

See you soon.

jen wink

matson Tue 25-Jun-13 18:23:48

hello yayajen, its scarey sometimes to take yourself out of your comfort zone and meet new people and interact Annegr and her friend made me feel like I had known them for years .
we are going to meet up weekly for awhile to get to know each other better and further down the line when we are comfortable we will arrange a meet with other GNs.

matson Tue 25-Jun-13 18:29:22

Hello annegr, well done on the smiley face , another task learnt! We will be whizz kids on these keyboards by the end of the year smile
Hope they sort your lawnmower out for you x As you can see I have messaged yayajen, I hope this is ok with you?

YaYaJen Tue 25-Jun-13 18:57:20

Good evening,

I think leaps and bounds maybe describes all your progress with forums, smileys, meet-ups and all!

A quick note, the messages here, on the forums, are public and anyone can join in. I f you want to send each other private messages look along the lilac bar at the top of each post and on the right click private message .... for example to send me a PM (private message) look to far of right of where it says YaYaJen, click Private message and type away, I will get an email telling me there is a message waiting for me.

It would be lovely to come along to one of the meet ups if that is ok and I could maybe answer any questions about Gransnet Local and being online in general.

Cheers

Jen

Sun shining, birds singing, mower mended! All is well.smile
Sort of, anyway. Dentist today for filling.Aghhhhh.
I have had an idea to train our friend and get her on to Gransnet. I know she hates her Skype setup interferring with and I'm not conversant with it anyway. I thought I would mention to her for us to make a visit to the Hotspot cafe sometime before she goes to NZ and use their computers. She could then chat with us from NZ when she goes for 3mths. I shall bring it up with her on Friday, we are going to an armed forces thing run by Coast and Country at Dormanstown.
Hello,Jen!!!! 2 letters for the price of 1.All squeezed on to 1 format.Summer hols are upon us plus children/gardens.Sept.???
Glad your care itinary is pruned down.I thought I could do anything but I found out the hard way.I am not Superwoman.

YaYaJen Wed 26-Jun-13 08:38:41

Good morning,

Fab day here too though I woke achy and stiff from just a little gardening yesterday, tablets taken and on second cuppa tea so all is well now.

Not too keen on the dentists myself although a bit better now as ours is rather dishy grin

When does your friend go to NZ? I used to mentor at learndirect for all levels of computer users from absolute beginners up so hopefully could help out with showing her how to do what she wants to do sometime soon? If you are meeting Mondays I should be able to join you soon if that is ok?

Take care
Jen

annegr Thu 27-Jun-13 07:55:52

Good morning Jen,Lucky you with visual perks at the dentist. grin
Today is another day,gnashers resolved!
I have allocated today as a gardening day so am beautifully attired in ancient jumper and jogging bottoms. The grass is still wet and neighbours still in bed so am attending to my "office" jobs first.
Just watched Breakfast news, talking about being lonely in old age.Interesting subject for discussion and not as easy to resolve as first thought. If someone is depressed then taking positive action is so very hard, almost impossible. The condition is poorly understood or thought of as "being fed-up"
When I meet up with my compatriots on Monday, we will go forward with our ideas. We will certainly be pleased to see you.Perhaps you could visit our infamous Beacon? The best part is the coffee shop, the worst is a view of Hartlepool docks and a huge windfarm.Inspired???
Time for 2nd coffee.Bye.

annegr Thu 27-Jun-13 16:07:18

Hello Matson, Hope you are well. I've finished my stint in the garden but feel very insecure with the mower. It's let me down twice now. I would get another one but it is only just over 1yr old and I havn't had my moneysworth out of it.That's the Yorkshire woman in me. I come from West Yorkshire originally from the moors around where the Bronte sisters lived. My grandad had a farm- not a posh one. It was a survival one from which he and grandma fed their huge brood of children. No wonder people died in their 50's.
You will see I have replied to Jan.Maybe you have suggestions? We'll have a chat over cuppa on Monday.
I'm looking forward to the family birthday lunch on Sunday. It's nice when there is no cooking involved or washing-up and I can have a glass of wine because there's no driving either.
Talking of food has made me hungry.Did I have lunch?
A few surprises at Wimbledon,eh?

matson Thu 27-Jun-13 16:36:17

Hel lo annegr, I see you have done for the weather getting that lawnmower outsmile, maybe you could get in touch with the company, sometimes they will replace items just out of warranty that have had a problem, worth a try.
I think your suggestion of the beacon is a good idea, but after this Monday I am unavailable for a couple of weeks, shall we discuss it Monday?
have a lovely day sunday, sorry to let the side down but I,m not a tennis fan, saying that it would be nice if andy murray won.

annegr Fri 28-Jun-13 09:31:11

At least you're a British fan.You would probably cheer with the rest of us if he won.As it is turning out, his worst opponents are out, strangely enough. It would be, perhaps, a bit of a hollow victory.
I always feel smug when I've cut the grass the day before it rains. It looks beautifully green and fresh this morning.
As I wrote earlier, friend and I are off to the wild and woolly wastes of Dormanstown this afternoon.Armed Forces exhibition.I am against physical violence generally, negotiation is preferable, but in some of these situations, there doesn't seem to be a lot of option.
Grandson was upset last night. He'd asked mum what the smoke alarm was for and the gas one. She'd explained, rightly, that these things kill people and then he'd cried for ages and couldn't go to sleep for fear.I suppose he'll have to come to terms with the info.
I agree with you re mower and I do intend to write(email) the company. It is a design fault.
I have nearly completed cryptic crossword in Gazette.I very rarely manage it.

annegr Mon 01-Jul-13 14:32:14

Hello Jen,We had our coffee morning today and mulled over our various summer holiday arrangements.
The next time we can be sure of getting together in one place at the same time is:- Monday 2nd Sept. Venue:- Redcar Beacon,Seafront. Time:- perhaps we should make it 11.00am instead of our usual earlier time, to give you and others time to arrive. We hope you can come.
There is food available in this cafe if anyone needs sustenance.
Look The Beacon up on the website.
Our little group might manage a meal together before then but we are leaving it flexible.
I hope Nanna Matson notes and approves of my initiative in changing the time to 11.00.I just thought it would give guests from afar more time to get here.

matson Wed 03-Jul-13 16:46:05

Hi annegr, I have duly noted time change, I hope all went well for our friend on Monday afternoon!
have a lovely birthday and enjoy the sunshine that's comingsmile

YaYaJen Thu 04-Jul-13 11:14:23

Will put it in my diary. Back in bed while Peter goes to pick up second course of antibiotics, double strength. Would still be lovely to meet for quick cuppa before Sept if any of you want? X

annegr Fri 05-Jul-13 08:27:16

I don't know when you will read this - my short term memory fails me as to your whereabouts!!!
Our friend's appointment went differently than planned. Thank goodness.Dr. and her are back on first name terms, so to speak, and she is going to her daughter's for a week or two until hospital appt. comes through.
Poor Jen sounds to have been under the weather.I told you that you could set up a clinic for us all.Bus man's holiday! Arn't I full of good suggestions?
Whilst I have been writing this, have just had phone call from friend in West Dyke to say she won't be in this afternoon.(I was going to visit) She has some form of dementia and forgets her hospital appts. She's read her diary and found that there is one today.Glad she's discovered that!
I need some plants for new troughs so will go to High St.later.However, I can't plant out until youngest son drills some holes in said troughs and he's so laid back he's nearly falling over.I'd do it myself but I gave my drill away. I've tried pushing the screwdriver through but decided that method is a bit gung-ho and will break the plastic.Patience,patience. Maybe Jan's husband Peter could set up a handman service apart from picking up all our prescriptions.Do I hear a yell of discontent from N.Yorks?
Take care.

annegr Tue 16-Jul-13 08:09:40

To our readers, We havn't left you all, just taking a summer break. We will be pleased to hear from any grandma in our area who wishes to join our chat and our cups of coffee from time to time.
Today, I am putting up a gazebo for the benefit of my neighbours who find the sun a bit strong! Only the best, you know, in this coffee shop.Must admit that I havn't got the baking stuff out yet for a cake and not likely to. The hosepipe is priority for the front garden, though,my Amazon jungle of Morrison's £1 plants is taking over. I didn't know some of them grew to 6ft tall.
I hope Jen is feeling better and husband Peter will be glad to hear I got the drainage holes put in the troughs.Get in touch, Matson, on your return. Our friend is hankering after a meal out- still no progress with appointment.

YaYaJen Tue 16-Jul-13 10:06:55

Hi Annegr,

Thanks, I am finally feeling over the infection though it left me a little low, thankfully that is receding too.

Pete is the least handy man you could ever meet but I am pretty mean with an electric screwdriver grin

Please remember that you are all most welcome to come to our meet-up this Saturday...we are meeting 11am this Saturday at a lovely new café, Café Rustica down Barker's arcade, just off Northallerton High Street, run by a charming Brazilian (new dad) it is a little bit different though small. Then for lunch - for those who want to make a day of it - The Village Inn who do an amazing 2 course lunch for £7.95, they even change that menu every week.

Take care
Jen

matson Wed 17-Jul-13 18:46:42

Hi yayajen, I,m pleased to hear you are on the mend, unable to join you on Saturday, sorry x

annegr Fri 19-Jul-13 19:20:07

Hello and welcome home Matson. I didn't realise you were back. I shall give our friend a ring and see if she's free for Monday at 10. Shall we just make it coffee and catch-up this time, please? We can talk about where to go for meal. If she can't make it, I will still come but I shall ring her now anyway. I hope you had a good holiday and are fit and raring to go. (maybe not!)
See you Monday at Morrisons in cafe at 10 ish. If you are held up, don't worry, I shall wait until 10.30.

YaYaJen Fri 19-Jul-13 19:34:27
