I'm a North Yorkshire 'Tyke' near the North Yorks Moors. Wonderful. Fab. Glorious. Marvelous. God's Country.

I have lived in Suffolk for 24 years and love it, now in Stowmarket. Great part of the country to live and bring up children. Daughter and family have just moved here from Huddersfield so very busy being grandma!

Oxon70 Mon 20-Jun-11 17:08:30

Thanks for the welcome, folks on the other thread.
I'm 15 miles south of Oxford, and 71 this year....
...but I was born in Cheshire and lived in Dundee for a long time. I went to primary school in Welwyn Garden City.
I do identify with my Scots ancestors, though I have Irish, Welsh and English too - in about equal proportions!

Annobel Mon 20-Jun-11 19:50:32

I know the area, Oxon70. DS2's family are there. I worked in Dundee for two years in the '60s and now live in Cheshire. Never been to Welwyn though.

GoldenGran Mon 20-Jun-11 19:57:37

Still no one from Kent, can't believe it. People say that northerners are friendlier. Looks like they are, as nobody from Kent except me wants to chat wink

I spent my adolescence in Kent, nanapug, and I'll chat to anybody!smile

Places I've lived, random order -

West Wickham
Beckenham
Solihull
Lewisham

Woodham Ferrers

Twobabes Fri 24-Jun-11 00:46:26

Don't know where that second Woodham Ferrers came from. There's only one, isn't there?confused

Twobabes Fri 24-Jun-11 00:48:50

grannyactivist, you beat me by one!!

nanapug Fri 24-Jun-11 11:22:12

At last, twobabes someone from Kent. I lived in Bromley when I was a child, and then when we first married. Unfortunately I think it is actually classed as South London now though!!! Did you go to school in Bromley? I went to Bromley Technical High School in Chislehurst.

Twobabes Fri 24-Jun-11 13:15:01

Hi, nanapug! I lived around Bromley from 12 to 21 and until two years ago was there a great deal of my time with my elderly parents. It still seems strange not to be going there.
Went to Bromley High then Stockwell College (teacher training) - with the wisdom that being 18 brings I opted not to go away to train because I'd be parted from my boyfriend. His firm then sent him to work on the other side of the world for several years - before I'd even started the course! No, of course it didn't last! (The boyfriend thing, I mean, not the course.)

nanapug Fri 24-Jun-11 14:10:15

Oooh twobabes I knew quite a few people at the high school. I am 62 so would we have been there at a similar time? Do send me a private message if we are of a similar age and we can compare notes!!

jennybumble Sat 25-Jun-11 22:28:15

I now live in Chichester but as a child my father was in the air force so we moved every 2 years. I had 4 primary schools and 3 senior schools,
Lived in Tenterden in Kent, then Chippenham, Downham Market, Lincoln, Chipping Norton, Kings Lynn, and 5 years in Germany in Landsberg, so lots of moves,
I have lived in Chichester for 40 years and love it. I wanted my children to stay in one place for schools etc and it worked really well.

glassortwo Sun 26-Jun-11 10:30:21

jenny my dad was also in the air force from me being 5 years old, we were in so many places and I attended 13 schools during my basic education, I think thats why I was more than happy to stay put in one place once I had married and settled down, I wanted my children to have a group of friends to grow up with, I was always the new girl and being shy made it very difficult to forge friendships.

lynne Sun 26-Jun-11 11:40:58

em I'm from Dundee...living in Derby
