Hi Amber, we went to a pub in Congesbury many years ago, with some friends of ours who live at Nailsea. We were on holiday at Weston-Super- Mare.

Amber Thu 23-Feb-12 08:57:06

Hi numberplease can you remember which pub? we used to have loads of pubs but most are now restaurants or have been demolished.

Maniac Thu 23-Feb-12 13:03:04

Hello Amber I've been to Congesbury several times visiting a 91yr-old,but I haven't been to any of your pubs or restaurants.I moved to Backwell 4 yrs ago after living in other ares of Bristol for 20 yrs .
Backwell is very convenient for trains/buses.I live in a small close near the station- do most of my shopping in Nailsea.
I'm enjoying this site.It's addictive!

Amber, can`t remember the name of the pub, it was a good few years ago, mid 90s, but it was a large pub, a bit old fashioned inside, with beams, and on the main road. Big roaring fire as well.

Bez Sat 25-Feb-12 17:55:14

Hello everyone - I have read many of the topics now and decided this was as good as any to make my first post.

I was born near Heathrow although at the time it was right out in the country - I also lived for about 20 years in Surrey - Camberley and from there came to South Wales - currently living part of the time near Bridgend.
We live a lot of the year in SW France, south of Bergerac, and have done so for 15 years - our intention is to make this our main home within the next few months.

I see that there are others on GN who also live in SW France - are you far away?

That sounds exciting, cathykate. Do you know what you'll be required to do in your volunteer role?

I've heard of and been there. i'm from N. Ireland. We love to visit Dublin and Galway. Sometimes we make the long trip to Cork and surrounding areas, but it's a long long drive.

Hello, Bez, I used to live in Thiviers and then in Cazals, but now I live in Haute Savoie because I love the mountains.

absentgrana Thu 08-Mar-12 12:58:17

Hi Bez I was born near Heathrow too. In fact, my parents bought their house before the airport was constructed (actually before the house was constructed too as they bought it as part of a new development in 1937). I used to go riding on Hounslow Heath. I was at university in Surrey and then lived in West London until two years ago when I moved to the North-East. I am planning to emigrate to New Zealand within the next twelve months.

Bez Thu 08-Mar-12 15:23:31

hi Absent _my parents bought the house during the war - my Dad was working on radar at EMI in Hayes so in a reserved occupation - in the Home Guard too and did firewatch locally. Our house was built just before the war and then the remainder of the houses in the road finished after. I went to grammar school in islewort so went passed Hounslow Heath every day on the 116 bus!
My parents remained living in the house for the rest of their lives and it was finally sold in in 2005.

Bez I live in the Lot department and have done for almost twelve years. Moved here with my husband but now a widow. I dont regret moving here. I live in a small friendly village and although I spend time walking with a British single friend I do try to be as integrated as possible. The worst thing you can do is to live in an English enclave. By the way I am Welsh.

flowerfriend Sat 10-Mar-12 10:48:45

That should have read BRITISH enclave. I have got nothing against the English except when they beat us at rugby.

Bez Sat 10-Mar-12 22:30:51

Hi Flower - DH Welsh and and I have lived here for over 20 years. In France the house is on Dordogne/Lot and Garonne borders - have had the house for 15 years and spent about 4-5 months there every year since. We hope when things are settled to maybe move to the edge of a ville - have a bit smaller garden etc. House here on the market but of course things are very slow - back to France next week.wine
