I left Birmingham when I was 17, nannyeileen, but, whenever I go back there I find the people so warm and friendly. I used to spend hours in the museum and art gallery [used to have nightmares about being locked in the mummy section]. Do you remember the fountain that used to change colour at night? And Bingley Hall..and the roof bit at Lewis's where you could buy ice cream?

Hi there In the middle of the Scottish Highlands - gorgeous scenery, peace and quiet, good for the soul and walking the dog! designer clothes no longer needed just great walking boots. Really cold in winter though and the price of diesel is unbelievable.

A Scot from Dundee, studied and lived in Edinburgh for five years, then moved south in the early seventies. Now living in Ilford.
I haven't had a Forfar bridie in ages, but enjoy a haggis every now and again.

We need a UK map to place everyone on then you could see how close/far away everyone is to you!

Do you get together when you find someone not too far away? I hope you do envy.

I'm a Sussex girl who has lived happily in Fife for 30 years but I am getting itchy feet and would like to return to my roots. I wonder where in Fife you are Pancakegrandma? NannaJane - I have a daughter in Ashton Keynes and have visited Barnsley - lovely part of the world!

nanapippa Sun 29-May-11 21:02:50

Come on people from Kent, where are you all?

goldengirl Sun 29-May-11 22:11:51

I live in Hertfordshire but was brought up on the Isle of Wight and try to go back there as much as possible. I also have family connections in Weymouth. I'm torn between wanting to be by the sea yet wanting to be in shouting distance of London - not that I go there much in spite of good intentions. My children live quite close by which is another reason for staying put - we support each other and also come in handy as baby sitters and are part of our grandchildren's lives.
What are your thoughts on upping sticks and going to live where you want [rather than be forced by circumstance], or staying where you are to be near family? Although I don't like where I live I think I'd miss them dreadfully if we moved away even though sometimes I feel that enough is too much!!!!
