Feeling very envious that Scottish Grannies have got themselves organised.
Are there any grannies within striking distance of a Midlands centre who would like to do the same? I am in Milton Keynes but trains to Brum are frequent and fast. Any takers?

jeni Wed 15-Aug-12 21:58:37

I'd bring my harp, but I'd need grrrranny to juggle it along with my crutches!

Ps my new fairy lights arrived today. I've now got to decide which coloured ones to use!

grrrranny Wed 15-Aug-12 22:08:31

Forgot to say I have booked 16.22 train home as it takes a while to get back and I have to go camping the next day for DH's birthday - we do it every year and yes it is cold. Alison have you warned DS3 that there may be a lot people sleeping on his floor that night if things get out of hand?

jeni Wed 15-Aug-12 22:11:52

Poor lad!

gracesmum Thu 16-Aug-12 11:59:23

Tearoom have us down for 1pm, so I hope that is going to be long enough. Didn't want to commit to earlier because of trains etc but anybody arriving earlier has time for a coffee and to accost any other likely-looking ladies sporting purple! A bit like blind dating?

glitabo Thu 16-Aug-12 12:03:56

That is great gracesmum thank you. I am glad this thread has opened up again, I was feeling bereft when it stopped running. So far, I have bought a purple scarf. I have not booked my train yet, but thought of booking an open ticket so I can catch any train going home. smile

jeni Thu 16-Aug-12 12:59:10

I'll have to book in advance as I'll need disabled assistance!

AlisonMA Thu 16-Aug-12 19:37:04

Whoever called my son a 'lad' would have a shock as he just turned 30! He thinks we are a load of boring old whotsits so I might enjoy shocking him by bringing you all with me!

I don't play an instrument but if anyone lets me know when they want everyone to go I'll sing and it will clear the room.

I have a suggestion: instead of us all PMing each other with our mobile numbers how about those who wish to exchange numbers PM me and I will collate them all and send one PM to each of you with all the numbers a couple of days before the event?

JessM Thu 16-Aug-12 19:54:21

oh what fun. Sidling up to women of a certain age with purple hair and trying to guess WHO they ARE!
But unless anyone is a copycat maniac will be easy.

glassortwo Thu 16-Aug-12 20:04:30

When we had our meeting in Edinburgh gally Marelli and I all under our umbrellas as it was a stinking day, approached a Lady in the doorway of Jenners asking if she was elegran by the look on her face she thought we were just a little bit strange and we were about to abduct her, then elegran sensibly appeared from inside grin so be careful who you approach grin you might get more than you had bargained for.

gracesmum Thu 16-Aug-12 21:22:02

gringrin!!!!(I think they might!)

Marelli Thu 16-Aug-12 21:40:13

That was so funny, glass! I think she was even more worried because we were all grinning! 3 grins in a row - under umbrellas! gringringrin!

Elegran Thu 16-Aug-12 21:45:48

Meanwhile I was standing inside Jenners in the dry, after accosting another complete stranger who looked as though she was waiting for someone. Turned out she was to meet her husband there.

Marelli Thu 16-Aug-12 21:48:34

Didn't it turn out well, though, Elegran! smile

Elegran Thu 16-Aug-12 21:57:08

We must do it more often.

Marelli Thu 16-Aug-12 21:59:15

Roll on October! smile

jeni Thu 16-Aug-12 22:46:58

What more could a woman want?

Elegran Thu 16-Aug-12 23:18:04

You missed out dishy men in uniform.

None of those in Fife in October, unless we go to Rosyth and hang around hopefully.

All the nice girls love a sailor.

jeni Thu 16-Aug-12 23:23:34

You can keep the men! Most of them are gay! I've nothing against gay men . But! To quote GIgi " they're NOT thinking of ME"grin

Elegran Thu 16-Aug-12 23:27:43

And they won't have anything to hold against you, either, Jeni so they are a dead loss.

jeni Thu 16-Aug-12 23:41:50

Quite!

Nanadogsbody Fri 17-Aug-12 07:35:49

Would it be possible for a new GNetter from the Midlands to come too?

grrrranny Fri 17-Aug-12 09:00:03

Nanadog of course it will be fine - there was another thread where we all put our names down - midlands venue vote - I think it was but when gracesmum sees this I'm sure she can just add you to the list. Sorry post is short but got to go to work.

AlisonMA great idea about everyone PMing you and thanks for offering to make a list - that will make it much easier.

AlisonMA Fri 17-Aug-12 11:43:02

Nanadogsbody of course you can come and I don't think you will be very new by then. I've only been on a few months too. Where will you be travelling from? I would like to know if anyone else is likely to be on the train which goes from Hereford, through Ledbury, Malvern, Worcester, Droitwich on the way to Brum? If there is I plan to walk up and down the train accosting any likely people just like they did in Edinburgh, it sounds like fun!

Jeni never been on a cruise as I get so travel sick but it does sound wonderful and I would love to hear all about it afterwards. What exotic places are you going to? Do you need lots of posh frocks on a cruise? I'm a bit limited in those these days.

Nanadogsbody Fri 17-Aug-12 12:27:07

I'll be travelling from Warwick. Not sure where train goes through before it gets to Warwick????? Great that I can come. Gather it's in October, at a gallery somewhere in B'ham and we're to wear purple???? grin

jeni Fri 17-Aug-12 12:38:38

Purple green and white! We're modern suffragettes! Do you think we should have a banner?
March, march, swing ye along!
