On another thread some of us discovered that there were quite a few GNs living in the Reading area so we have decided to meet up on 18th July possibly in the restaurant in John Lewis. There are 3 takers at the moment so it would be lovely if others could join us.

Gorki Sun 07-Jul-13 21:30:20

I have advertised this meet-up on the Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey forums as some folk might live near enough to be able to join us.

I thought I'd got myself organised - my husband was going to start a new course of chemo this Thursday, now he's on antibiotics for a chest infection and they've postponed the start till next Thursday sad It can't be helped, but I was looking forward to it. Perhaps another time!!

noodles Tue 09-Jul-13 20:31:22

Sorry you can't make it this time Deedaa. Hope your husband's chest infection clears up.

If you find you are unexpectedly free on another day, let us know.... we might well be able to make a short notice meetup.

Deedaa Tue 09-Jul-13 21:59:11

I'm generally free most days, Wednesday is GS's gym club (though not for much longer) and if we have to see the consultant it's always a Thursday. Next few weeks are a bit of an unknown quantity as he's not had this new drug before and we don't know what the effect will be.

Gorki Wed 10-Jul-13 12:23:43

Sorry to hear about your husband's setback Deedaa. Hope all goes well for him. We can certainly arrange another meeting later next month if you are free or in September. flowers

Thanks Gorki

Gorki Wed 10-Jul-13 14:08:31

One has replied that she can't come this time because she is moving house a few days later but wishes to be informed of any future meetups.

Gorki Fri 12-Jul-13 09:45:19

It looks like most of the meetups planned at the moment seem to be struggling for people to attend. I wonder why ? Perhaps it's the time of year or the difficulties of arranging a time and date on GN. Any more for Reading ?

GadaboutGran Fri 12-Jul-13 18:06:39

Sorry - only just picked this up. Unfortunately I'm away that day on a my London grand-daughter's school's whole family trip to Littlehampton. Next time perhaps. I am delighted my original post has brought people together.
Deedaa - I hope your husband recovers well. It was lovely to meet you at Chessington.

In answer to your question Gorki, I think the main reason is that it's really hard to fix dates with Gransnetters who seem to have such busy lives, especially at this time of year. I also think some people value their anonymity & a few are nervous of meeting strangers. Have a good natter next week,

Gorki Fri 12-Jul-13 20:32:23

Thanks for replying GadaboutGran. I hope you enjoy your day in Littlehampton. We are going there tomorrow for my cousin's 50th birthday so hopefully we will get to the beach.

I was just interested about the meetups because I have never been to one and looking back at earlier threads and some of the photos ,they seem to have been well-attended especially in Scotland and the North. Perhaps they are more gregarious up there ! smile

Hi Gorki Seems like we've chosen a bad time for our meet-up. I'd be happy to meet up with just the two of us.... what about you? I'd understand perfectly if you'd prefer to leave it until we have more 'takers'.

Gorki Sat 13-Jul-13 23:21:26

Hi noodles I would love to meet up with you on Thursday as planned. How will I recognise you? If it is still hot I will probably wear a deep pink top and flowery skirt. I have white hair and am somewhat "plumpish" lol. smile Looking forward to meeting you.

noodles Sun 14-Jul-13 11:03:22

Hi Gorki I've got white hair too, but sadly, I am way beyond plumpish.smile

I read that at another meet up, the signal was a bright scarf tied onto a handbag/backpack, so I'll do that. But I'm sure we'll find each other!

Look forward to meeting you. Jane

Gorki Sun 14-Jul-13 12:06:17

Hi noodles I'm way beyond plumpish too but was just being kind to myself !!
The scarf is a good idea. I'll come armed with one so to speak.
Really looking forward to Thursday at 11 in JW.
All the best
Sue
