Nfkdumpling it must be something to do with the east coast air as I can’t work all the different names out or who was which or which was who or who’s missing or who’s here I just plod on and treat everyone as unknown ???

I know I am invisible! as I will often make a suggestion to a post, then a couple of posters further down the thread will repeat my advice, only to be profusely thanked or praised by subsequent posters, and or the OP? good job I am too thick skinned to care ??

I'm not particularly tempted to post as much these days although I greatly appreciated the responses to my wail last week before my knee replacement. Somehow I find all the game threads completely uninteresting so I just skim through active threads to see if any are vital reading.
I do know a few of the new names but some regulars seem to have contributed less and less. Sad.

Polly I said who I was on a thread last year when a few posters said they had missed me.I had no intention of hiding behind a new name, but had to change it for personal reasons, however I never changed my style so most people know, even if they didn’t see that particular thread.

Agree with merlot. GN has really changed.

I find Twitter much more interesting and amusing, with links to a host of interesting articles, beautiful photography, opinionated nonsense and wonderful art.
At the moment, it’s my preference over GN.

Several posters changed over the revelation that our threads were used in all sorts of places.
Some revealed their new names and some didn’t.

I must admit I never remember who anyone used to be ( or still is in some cases.) ?

I'm afraid I do have difficulty recalling many names except for those that were here early on when there were far fewer to remember. Now that people have name-changed I am completely lost as to who they may once have been. I know it's the nature of forums, but I do sometimes wonder about people who are missing - especially the ones I have actually met; but the truth is I often 'read and run' these days and with so many new names I can't keep track of who hasn't posted for a while.

Nightowl said she was taking a break, but that was a long time ago - or it seems like it was.

I agree with finnochio about Twitter. It maybe takes a bit of time to get into but I've found myself 'following' all sorts of things and people. Eg last week I discovered a 'therapy owl' and that a dachshund club called themselves 'the sausage army'. My mind boggles at some of the innocent and interesting stuff I find out. There's excellent paintings posted and it's always good fun to read the captions some posters find for medieval manuscript illustrations. I've made Twitter friends and met up for coffee. I'd say don't write off Twitter. Persevere!

Thanks Jalima glad someone remembers me from a few months ago when life became just too hectic to come on here.

All those of you who can't remember who is who imo have enough going on in their lives that they don't need to. It is only a forum after all.

One of the original GNs who is no longer here used to keep notes on us and when someone changed their name would work out who they were and then out them! I always thought it was very mean as presumably when people change their names they have a very good reason for doing so.

I know someone did say she could work out who people were in RL by some of the information they posted on here - but she did it as a warning to us all to be careful and not for any sinister reason.

I think greatnan used to keep a notebook so she remembered people and their history. I think greatnan was formidable without any help.

As far as I remember the late Greatnan said she kept a note on whatever was specific/troubling to a member so that she would know where they were 'coming from', so to speak. This sounded a reasonable thing to do as not all of use have a photographic memory. It was also a bold thing to say as it could be misconstrued, as it obviously is.

It irks me when people infer that she kept a dossier on members and would use it against them.

The woman is dead and not able to defend herself.

I don't think anybody thinks she would have used the information against people.If she knew where you were coming from she could answer you rationally. A few people on here are ready to jump on people without any real understanding of what they are saying. One of the pitfalls of not communicating face to face.
