Wow! That was fast Elegran - a meetup arranged in under ten hours and nine takers already. Please, may I add my name to the list too. The meal at Cranston's was very good and Edinburgh meet-ups are always memorable.

Two more names added, now 11. Oldgoat Eliz1 I think everyone is ready to consider the C word and plan for December now so they were quick to reply, and the first place I tried was able to take us.

I asked for "about 12" in my email to them, but it looks as though there will be more. Must check that will be OK with them.

The Old Waverley seems more organised than the ROSL, they were quick answering and they have a form to fill in and so on. They do want a 50% "pre-authorisation" ie a theoretical deposit. If we cancel without letting them know a few days beforehand they will take that half from my card on the day, whether we are there or not. That is better than me running round getting money in advance from everyone towards a deposit.

Correction, they will process the pre-authorisation on 10th Dec, the day before our booking, so if you have to cancel at the very last minute, I am afraid half of your share will still be due. However, I am sure there will be no last-minute dramas for us!

I switched the computer off completely and went away for a cup of coffee and a biscuit. When I switched it back on it had sorted itself. Grrrr.

Preparing for Christmas hasn't been banned, JollyG, but it does sometimes feel as though the leadup gets earlier and earlier each year. It seems that soon the 1st January media won't be about starting another year but about "Buy early for Christmas"

The previous hotel booking kept adding up Elegran and I changed/increased numbers several times. The hotel was very accommodating

I am sure it will be OK. After all, it is all extra customers and money for them. The only problem would be if it went up a lot, and they had booked a whole load of other parties at the same time. Still, it would be nice to have it in writing that they would still accommodate, say 20. We have had that many before in December.

hi all, I have finally managed to find the relevant page on the website again. I would like to be included for the lunch also please. Wednesday 12th suits me very well. I'm a veggie so have checked the proposed menu just in case. Will we need to pay upfront and choose our meals before the day? Or maybe its a deposit only.
